Dark dark dark dark dark…. Whew! This is a dark and disturbing book! Hated the cover but loved the blurb.

What did I like? Like is a strong word here, this book was engrossing and very sad. Like watching an actual train wreck but being unable to look away from the horror. Cassie and Leo’s story started out great but choices and outsiders deemed them to not live happily ever after. The suffering in these pages are almost overwhelming.

Would I recommend or buy? Yes, totally read this dark story. Too many triggers to name and I devoured them all. It’s been awhile since I’ve picked up a book by this author but I’m glad it was this one. Five dark stars!

This was definitely different than I thought it would be. I liked the different twists. Totally kept me guessing and it's full of twisted psychological suspense.

*Previously titled Gun Shy, has been optioned for film.

I am not sure how to best frame this novel. It is an incredibly dark book... It is a very wild ride. If you are the type of reader who prefers a trigger warning - there are many many dark and twisted events hidden amongst the mystery of who has killed several young girls in the small rural town.

Make no mistake, it’s a cold reality of life in the small rural town of Gun Creek. We learn that right away as we meet the main characters of Cassie, Leo and the dangerous Sheriff. Leo was recently released from jail. He did time for driving drunk and crashing his car and causing near death to Cassie’s mother (and the Sheriff’s wife) who spends her time in a coma. Leo is also suspected of killing a girl 8 years ago, something he violently denies. Suddenly another girl turns up dead. Cassie and Leo once loved each other - she believes his innocence. Can she clear his name?

Everyone in this story is hiding something. No one is a hero and the pure desolation of their lives causes the characters to continue to make poor choices. A thrilling novel filled with treachery and darkness. Not for the faint hearted! If you like shocking small town stories of violence, this novel is for you! Thank you to Edelweiss for the ARC in exchange for a fair review. #FieldofWrongdoing.
