Superintendent Matt Darnley, like Rebus, breaks all the rules but delivers justice. Set at the very end of the last millennium Quentin Dowse's debut novel is authentic and gritty. The plot pulses with energy and momentum, the characters larger than life, in a thought-provoking and complex story. I do hope this is the first novel in a series. The quality of the writing is right up there with Rankin and Robinson.

There’s a lot going on in this book. I really liked the fine line across right and wrong and how the author presented the realities of this. The characters are really vividly drawn and I felt very invested in them all. It’s a strong plot line and there is a great deal to like in this book. Highly recommended.
