Charming, romantic and meaningful. I couldn’t have rooted harder for Crystal and Scotty!

This was a sort of enemy to lovers romance centered around a family wedding. I loved the first half so much but the second half fell flat to me. I think the miscommunication trope in this one really hindered my enjoyment.

This is one of three books in Lea’s interconnected The Influencer series and I can confidently say I have loved all three books! I actually read Exes and O’s and The Catch before this one even though this came first but it didn’t impact the outcome of my love for these ladies or this series! Set On You is focused on fitness influencer Crystal. She was such a fantastic character. There were several empowering and uplifting messages imbedded in this book regarding self love, acceptance, and body positivity. I really fell for the chemistry and love story between Crystal and Scott. Their romance tropes of nemesis to lovers was well written! I loved grandma Flo and of course her sister Tara and bestie Mel, who I was quite familiar with already having read their books first! Overall this is a book and series not to be missed!

This book was just OK for me. I was hoping for more but it was just mediocre. The premise and plot seemed good but I was not very invested in the characters as much as I had hoped to be.

This was a fun one! The typical enemies to lovers in the best way possible. I love the family dynamic, it was very relatable.

Super cute! What a fun debut novel! The steam was fun and not overdone. I can't wait to see how the series continues!!

Set On You is full of so much body and image positivity and Scott is such a swoon (hello Chris Evans imagery)! Add in some fun side characters and a goldendoodle to make my heart full and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect romance read!

Body positivity, Firefighter MMC, Fitness Influencer FMC and some hilarious banter. This book was everything! Crystal was such a relatable FMC which was refreshing. So excited to continue the story with Exes and O's.

Curvy fitness instruction Crystal meets firefighter Scott at the gym and they are instant enemies. The more they see each other the more they try to annoy each other until one day hate turns into... not so much hate.

I thought this was a very cute romcom. I loved the body positivity and the realness. of the characters. They were flawed and realistic and I always appreciate that in romance books. Overall, I liked it and would recommend!

I loved the body positivity plot and the characters so much. I think where this fell short for me was the romance!

I was absolutely thrilled to receive a copy of Amy Lea’s debut novel “Set on you.” This adorable romantic comedy gives us a spicy rivals-to-friends-to-lovers as well as an exploration of how social media influencers can fall prey to the negativity of strangers online.

Crystal is a curvy, biracial, body positive influencer who uses her platform to take down the fat-phobic stereotypes that dictate the fitness industry. She has dedicated her Instagram to inspiring those who may feel less-than to follow their dreams, while showing the world how curvy girls can kill it in the gym. Her endorphin filled sanctuary is disrupted when a gorgeous stranger who seems to be unaware of proper gym etiquette interrupts her workouts by always seeming to be exactly in the wrong place.

Her gym rival, firefighter Scott, unexpectedly becomes a bigger part of Crystal’s life when they discover that their grandparents are soon-to-wed and wedding plans are now in full swing! With meddling grandparents set on making a match they are unable to avoid each other for long.

I really enjoyed watching Crystal and Scott banter throughout the gym, it quickly moved from frustration to foreplay, and then to flirty friends as they decided to take much needed time to develop their relationship. Both frustrated me at times as their lack of communication lead to drama that could have easily been avoided, but the newness of their relationship could definitely be to blame.

With Crystal being popular on social media and open about most aspects of her life, it was interesting to see that she, like most influencers, still feels the impact of the negative comments. Once the trolls descend on Crystal the self-doubt she worked so hard to battle rears it’s ugly head and she must do some intense self-reflection to regain her confidence.

One thing that brought me out of the story occasionally was that it felt like the writing was intended for a younger audience, there were a lot of over-the-top scenarios that happened at every turn, and maybe my old lady joints just felt tired imagining it.

Overall I think “Set On You” was a successful debut novel that delivered on the humor, spice and feels and I am so excited to read about Tara in the sequel! Congrats Amy Lea!

3.5, rounded up. While this was a cute read, by the end of it, I was so bored by the back and forth between the characters.

DNF at 30%. I found the majority of the characters unlikeable. I have nothing against body positivity but Crystal’s philosophy borders on delusional as it caters to the science deniers of the fat activism movement. Scott was an absolute AH upon meeting Crystal and only acts nice to her after he realize his Gramps is about to marry her Grandma Flo. But despite all that the worst person was definitely Flo. Insufferable, I don’t care that she’s old. She did not respect Crystal’s boundaries and tried to force Crystal and Scott together AFTER Crystal made it clear she didn’t get along with him? Yuck. We hear Reddit stories of family going No contact for this type of behavior. The minute I saw that Flo planned an ambush at the ax throwing place…..I was done, I was so angry. So yeah. No bueno. Couldn’t do it.

Overall, it was a cute, lighthearted read. It didn't blow me away but it was enjoyable, entertaining, and romantic, with protagonists that I genuinely liked. I loved the self-love message and appreciated this type of storyline being spotlighted in mainstream romance. I enjoyed Amy Lea's writing and am definitely excited to read more of her books in the future.

I love books about social media influencers, so I knew this was going to be fun one to read! It was nice to see the bi-racial representation as well. The gym locker room scene is 🥵, and this book truly is a fun and spicy romcom!
