Sigh, I really need to get better at writing my reviews sooner rather than later. However, in this particular instance it's helping me a bit in realizing that while I did enjoy this book, I feel confident in changing my rating to a solid 3. I enjoyed this but I'm really not sure if I will be continuing on with the series.

Set on You follows Crystal, a fitness influencer whose main schtick is body positivity as she is a plus size influencer/trainer. She has a not so meet cute moment with the love interest, Scott, at the gym when he keeps "stealing" the gym machines she wants to use. What follows is a lot of petty arguing and more gym equipment theft but when their worlds collide outside of the gym, a few misunderstandings and romance ensues.

I did enjoy Crystal and Scott's romance but there were times where it felt like it was jumping a bit too far ahead. I've seen some reviews where people have called it a slow burn but I definitely don't see it.

The side characters were a nice addition; I found Crystal's grandmother to be the most enjoyable to read.

It also brings so many valid points on being an influencer and how burn out and negative comments is so prevalent and can be harmful to anyone.

Thank you to Berkely and Netgalley for an eARC

If you’re looking for a romance that also touches on some serious topics this is for you. Set on you Chrystal and Scott and both loveable characters that are well written. I loved how the author touched on themes such as cyber bullying and racism.

In Set On You, Crystal Chen is a curvy fitness influencer who loves working out and encouraging others to get fit for their own self esteem. She is very body positive and is a good motivator for people just learning to get into fitness. She also loves gym etiquette and she meets hunky Scott after she thinks he doesn’t wipe down the equipment after he’s done. They have flirty banter from the start and it only increases as they get to know each other.

Things take a turn when Crystal’s grandma announces she has a new man in her life. And to their surprise, it’s Scott’s grandpa!
They don’t let it bother them and they continue to see each other. It gets harder when Crystal posts a photo of her new beau and had to deal with rude and nasty trolls about their relationship.

I liked this one, but Crystal seemed a little one dimensional. She didn’t have many interests besides the gym and she just seemed kind of young. I did love her confidence and she was so encouraging to other women to get fit for themselves and their own self esteem. Scott was more well rounded, especially after proving he wasn’t the jerk Crystal assumed him to be. I loved his silly jokes.

Thank you @berkleypub and @netgalley for my gifted ebook. Set On You is on sale now! I enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to Amy’s next novel- Exes and Ohs out in January!

3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was a really cute book. Crystal Chen is a curvy fitness influencer and she's mostly used to ignoring the haters and loving herself. Then a hunky, blonde thief steals her favorite squat rack and she's seeing red. Banter/flirting ensues, he steals her phone and gets her name, but remains a mystery himself. Then Crystal's grandma announces she's getting married and her fiance is Squat Rack Thief's grandpa. What happens when they are stuck in each others lives?

I DNF"d this book at chapter 3, so take this with a grain of salt. Why in the year of our lord 2022, are we still using Harry Potter references in adult romances?? The millennials don't want it. The love interest had a dog named Albus Doodledore. As a doodle breeder, this is a hate crime. I can't trust a man with a dog named that. Beyond that, the love interest was really terrible at the beginning, and I don't think that anything would've brought him back from the cliff he was so set on jumping off,.

Set on You is a romcom that features a plus size fitness influencer and her gym nemesis.
Crystal Chen is fresh off a break up when she attends a party for her grandmother's engagement and runs into her gym nemesis, Scott Ritchie. When the a picture of the two of them goes viral, the two are inundated with trolls and hate. Can the two work it out despite everything?
This is a sweet, cute rom com that I really enjoyed. I love romance novels with a plus size lead and the fact that she's a fitness influencer makes it even better.

It was an easy 5 ⭐️ read for me! I loved the banter between the characters, the author’s writing, and most importantly the book representation. I haven’t read any books that tackles body positivity and self love so it was very refreshing for me to read something different. It was a great way to send an important message thru a romance book! 😍

I’ve always struggle loving myself/body before and tbh I still do most of the time but this was a great reminder to be less harsh and love myself more everyday especially now that summer is around the corner! 🤣

So I highly recommend this if you haven’t read anything like this before. Plus who doesn’t want to meet a HOT FIREFIGHTER! I cannot wait for you all to meet Scott and Crystal this coming MAY 10!! 🤩

What a fantastic debut Amy! I look forward to reading more of your books in the future!! 🥰

This book far exceeded my expectations! Going on the journey of SELF RESPECT with the main character, Crystal, was amazing. Having her fall in love with the hot gym competitor/fireman was amazing, but the plot still would have been amazing without the romance. As a plus size woman of color I feel like Amy Lea did an amazing job of creating a character that I could easily relate to. Thoughts and responses that Crystal had throughout the book felt very real to myself and I can say this is the first “curvy character” that I have ever felt an instant connection with. I can’t thank Amy Lea enough for making a character and story for readers like me!

I couldn't finish this title. I wanted to enjoy it so badly, but I found the instant hate trope to be so annoying and the set up situation worse.

Super cute romcom with great diverse characters and a compelling story. Perfect summer read. Will definitely check out Amy Lea’s other books.

On paper, this book is right up my alley. Plus-size heroine? Gym rivals-to-lovers? Fun family dynamics that lead to forced proximity? Count me in.

Well, I counted right out less than 10% into this book because honestly, I don't have time to waste on a book that starts off the way this one does. I didn't even make it to the set up described in the description. Maybe I would have more grace for this book if I hadn't come off a really fantastic book. But I couldn't force myself to keep reading, and after looking at some pretty meh reviews, I knew that it wasn't worth it to push through.

Crystal is a plus-size influencer and personal trainer. One day, a hunky newcomer to the gym steals her machine. It sets off a back-and-forth between the pair that starts off as fun.

Then Crystal decides to hide the hunk's phone as a bit of payback. When she won't tell Scott (that's his name, although I didn't get far enough in the book to actually learn it in canon) where it is, this grown man grabs Crystal's phone and then plays keepaway with it. In the gym. He literally holds it hostage above his head until Crystal tells him where his phone is. In the mean time, he responds to a message in a dating app on Crystal's phone (because that's cool of him but honestly shouldn't be possible with passcodes/facial recognition) and then pulls a "tell me your name and I'll give it back to you" in a truly douche lord move. When Crystal relents and tells him her name, he won't tell her his and instead bounces.

I'm told they have a steamy makeout in the gym later that is the highlight of the book, but guess what? I don't have time for a male love interest who plays juvenile games like keepaway with a woman's phone. I just don't. So I stopped reading.

There might be some good stuff in this book, but I don't care to push through this bullshit to get to it. I support the message that Crystal pushes on her social medias about anti-fat bias and destigmatizing larger people at the gym and all that, but uh, I won't read further to get there.

I truthfully don't even want to write this review. I hate when I don't love a book all my friends did, and I especially dislike when an author is incredibly lovely and I don't vibe with their book. It almost feels like I read a different version of this book than some of my friends, because I couldn't understand how I felt so strongly about it when they felt the opposite.

I'm not going to get into my deep thoughts and feelings here - but I didn't like Crystal's character, I didn't like or believe the storyline and I didn't fall in love with the love story.

I'm one of the very few, if not the only, who didn't fall for this book, so please don't take my word for it and go pick it up. Let me know how wrong I am!

I loved this book so much. It was a perfect body-positive romance that has a wonderful plot. Did I mention the spice?!

One of my fav romances of the year so far! The characters, chemistry, banter and plot were all *chef's kiss*. Usually I prefer a dual perspective romance, but this one totally worked as a solo. It was so sweet and the social commentary was wonderful without being super in your face. Great summer read! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Set on You by Amy Lea is a fun read about a confident, curvy woman who meets an alpha male in the gym... attraction is there and so is the chemistry. What I really loved was how great of a guy Scott is. Coming across as a macho dude, he has so much going for him. Their miscommunications are one of their obstacles...will Crystal and Scott find their way to the love that is building between them?

I also loved the refreshing perspective of a plus sized woman being a fitness guru on social media. Lea takes a deep look at the complicated views of how we as woman feel about our bodies.

Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing and author Amy Lea for this temporary digital review copy for me to read and enjoy. As always, my reviews are voluntary and my opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this! The way Lea handles the nuance of body positivity and the way that social media impacts the way we think about ourselves and see ourselves was uniquely portrayed through this book.

Set on You by Amy Lea is a contemporary romance. Curvy fitness influencer Crystal Chen built her career shattering gym stereotypes and mostly ignoring the trolls. After her recent breakup, she has little stamina left for men, instead finding solace in the gym – her place of power and positivity. Enter firefighter Scott Ritchie, the smug new gym patron who routinely steals her favorite squat rack. Sparks fly as these ultra-competitive foes battle for gym domination. But after a series of escalating jabs, the last thing they expect is to run into each other at their grandparents' engagement party. In the lead up to their grandparents' wedding, Crystal discovers there’s a soft heart under Scott’s muscled exterior. Bonding over family, fitness, and cheesy pick-up lines, they just might have found her swolemate. But when a photo of them goes viral, savage internet trolls put their budding relationship to the ultimate test of strength.

Set on You is a read that does a great job about unpacking some of the self esteem and image issues that run rampant in some of our lives. I liked Crystal and her circle of friends, family, and clients. I thin the variety of approaches to liking and caring about yourself was very well done and will resonate with a variety of readers. I think the situation and aspects around social media and reactions of other people was on point, sadly. I enjoyed the journey with Crystal, and I think that many of us, including those that never got comfortable in the gym, can relate to many of her experiences and thoughts. I will say that as much as I understood and empathized with her I also had moments when I just wanted to shake her and give her some tough love- but I am also a person that tends to turn pain in to manic cleaning or side projects rather than cocooning. I also find Scott to be a little flat and maybe too close to perfect. Yes he had his own issues from the past, but I did not feel like I got as much growth and insight into him as Crystal- and the dual growth and change is something I really enjoy in a story. All of this is my personal preference, and nothing that is actually wrong with the book.. I van think of many people that would connect to this read more closely and deeply than I, and I have a few I will be recommending it to.

Set on You is an engaging and entertaining read.

Spoiler alert, this book is so…much…fun! Thank you @netgalley for my eARC.

I loved this gem about a curvy American-Chinese influencer and a hot fireman love interest who is based on Chris Evans 🏃🏼‍♀️

You’ll get a super funny and sexy all-round fabulous romcom ft enemies-to-lovers (!), super witty banter and a first kiss not dissimilar to the one in The Hating Game #iykyk - I loved it!

I wasn’t a big fan of the writing in this and it took me a while to try to get into it. I didn’t finish it but got most of the way through so I decided to give feedback although I didn’t read it all the way through.
