A breath of fresh air from a new author!

Crystal was so damn likeable! She's smart and witty and real! Scott was totally swoon-worthy, hello new book BF! They made total sense together! It wasn't hard to imagine them as a couple at all. The secondary characters were also pretty great! I certainly didn't find myself wanting them to head out of the scene!

As someone who has struggled with my weight for my entire life this part was handled brilliantly! Honestly, there will be people who disagree but it made sense to me. I have never identified with a character so much! I especially loved that she worked in a field that isn't typical for someone who doesn't have the "right body"!

I cannot wait for the next book!

Many topics women struggle with are covered in this story - self-love, body image and shaming, bullying, curviness, exercising. However I didn’t really find the romance that exciting. Crystal was ok as a character, her motivational insta posts were spot on but she was a very judgmental person when it came to Scott at the beginning. Not a story I’ll read again.

This one had a super cute premise and I was stoked to read it. The audio is fantastic and the narration is great. This is a cute and fun romance and I look forward to more from Amy Lea.

This book is kindly provided to me by net galley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own. I’ve flew through this book, I really enjoyed the romance. I thought it was fun engaging laugh out loud we’re also having some serious topics as well. As someone who’s probably a little bit more midsize also in the athletic fields, a yoga instructor, there is sometimes this pressure to look a certain way and to always say you love yourself and I love how this book tackled that kind of reality that it’s not always gonna be that way. There will be good days and bad days I loved how the author worked on the heroin coming to the realization that that doesn’t make her fake but it makes her human. It was so well done, I cannot wait to read more from this author. Love the hero so much.

This is a fun rom com. I loved the characters, setting and how it dealt with real life issues like fat shaming, etc. If you want a fun, quick read, I would pick up this book!

I appreciated the message about the issues in body positivity and how it's actually toxic to try to love everything about yourself all the time. Unfortunately, I found both Scottie and Crystal irritating. However, the smut was good.

Set on You by Amy Lea was an absolutely incredible book! First of all, the romance was entirely addicting. I couldn’t get enough of Scott and Crystal’s interactions. The banter, the tension, the yearning was all impeccable.

I love how their relationship played out, the enemies, to friends, to lovers happened so perfectly and seemlessly I couldn’t put it down.

And as a fat woman, this book meant more to me than I can express. Seeing a fat woman being a fitness influencer was such valuable representation. I love that Amy didn’t shy away from the good or the bad that it entails. I love that she explored Crystal’s relationship with her body and with fatness in such a refreshing way. She didn’t hate her body. She wasn’t in love with her body either, it was a complex, ever changing relationship, which is one of the most accurate representations I have ever seen written. I loved the idea of body neutrality that Lea promotes with this book, and I think everyone should read this. Skinny, fat, it doesn’t matter this book teaches such an important lesson for ANYONE with a body.

Set On You is such a cute book! I loved the forced proximity, playful banter, and pop culture references (I am a HUGE Real Housewives fan, so these references made the book seem even more relatable).

I love the enemies to lovers trope and this one is perfection. I loved the two main characters, Crystal and Scott. Crystal is a curvy fitness influencer who has an unpleasant gym encounter when firefighter Scott steals her favorite equipment. I loved Crystal's message about self-love and being kind to ourselves and our bodies. Scott is swoony and respectful...and did I mention a firefighter?!

Set On You was a sweet, joyful read and I look forward to more books by Amy Lea. I highly recommend this adorable rom-com!

I wish I could say I thoroughly enjoyed this book like I originally thought I would. But it was just okay. It had a really nice concept, I liked the writing style and the Instagram post captions.

Crystal (the fmc) was a little annoying at times and a bit hypocritical but I’m glad the other characters in the book called her out on it. I liked the relationship developments though.

If you’re looking for a quick read that has nice banter - pick this up!

I've followed Amy Lea on Bookstagram every since I joined the community two years ago and became obsessed with her picture-perfect pastel feed. I could not have been more excited when it was announced Berkley would be publishing her debut novel, and am so thankful to have gotten my hands on a copy! And it did not disappoint. With a plus-size Asian, fitness influencer heroine, there's a lot to love in this book a lot of of originality. While the hero seemed a bit like a little boy on the playground pulling a little girl's pigtails, I grew to love him and him and the heroine together.

Thanks to Berkley for my eARC and finished copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5 stars - 9/10

Adorable if not predictable. Overall, a decently suitable pool read. Loved the representation and romance was sweet to read.

Amy Lea is now an auto buy author for me. I absolutely loved Set on You. I ended up flying through this book in two settings. I want Crystal as a friend and my personal trainer and Scott is definitely book boyfriend material. The banter between the MCs was *chef’s kiss. I really loved the message in the book and seeing both character’s personal growth, but especially Chrystal’s. I really liked and appreciated that it was more than just a romance, but didn’t feel too heavy or veer into too dark and dramatic territory. I’m very excited for her next book to come out.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!
Crystal Chen is a fitness Instagrammer, she’s curvy not stick thin, growing up she was insecure about her body, but when she discovered the gym her confidence grew. She had a large following and talks about body positivity and living a healthy lifestyle, and not to stress about days where you want to eat dessert. After a recent break up she finds herself at her favorite place the gym. When a handsome but rude man steals her squat rack and doesn’t follow the gym rules. Soon these two find themselves going back and forth and they can’t deny the heat. When Crystals grandma announces she’s getting married she’s shocked, at the family dinner in walks the rude man from the gym, and she find out it’s her grandmas new finance’s grandson and his name is Scott and he’s a firefighter. Soon Crystal and Scott are helping with the wedding and becoming closer. The more Crystal learns about Scott she can’t help but want to know more and be closer to him, they become friends and both want more. Crystal has trust issues after her previous relationship and Scott just ended a relationship and she doesn’t want to be just away to get over his ex. But when Crystal shares a photo internet trolls begin to affect her confidence and she begins to question does she deserve love and to be happy? You don’t want to miss this debut.
.
-Influencer/ personal trainer
-sister is a bookstagrammer
-Hero is a Firefighter who is said to look like a Hemsworth brother
-enemies to friends to lovers
-the steamy scenes were so well done
-bi-racial heroine and curvy
-talks about healthy views about body image
.
From the moment they meet sparks were flying and so were some not so nice thoughts. Ha. From the representation it had to the romance it was amazing.
.
Scott gets on Crystals bad side after a gym incident and then starts to have other run ins with her. THEN they are thrown together because of other circumstances and it was so much fun to read. I think a lot of the conflict in the book was due because Crystal was learning to be more accepting of her person and being more trusting. Scott was amazing through this process. Did he mess up at times? Yes, but he recognized where he mess up which I appreciated. Also, the moments where he mentioned the he tried his best to get her attention but it kind of backfired on him. So adorable. They developed a beautiful friendship that lead to some delicious tension.
.
The author touched on growing up biracial, toxic gym culture, social media (good & bad) and also accepting one’s body. Love the fact that just being positive about it can also be toxic. It’s ok to have some bad moments of self doubt. I think this will resonate with many.

Thank you to Berkley for my review copy.

Loved the idea of the book and heroine Crystal - but overall I mostly struggled with the book.
I really enjoyed Crystal although she is pretty quick to judge other people. But when it comes to the plot it was unremarkable, not as funny as expected, and quite boring at times. I skimmed and skipped my way though it, with many stops and goes. At the end I never connected or cared for the characters and story except for Crystal.

I'm also not a fan of misunderstandings, especially just for the sake of conflict. And Crystal going viral because of her not fitting certain criteria is such an overused conflict, and lacklustre. Instagram drama is just not my forte, there is too much of it already in real life.

It wasn't a bad debut novel, just not a great one either. On the other hand, with each book it can only get better.

Crystal is a plus-size fitness influencer. She has gained a huge following since the start of her journey towards self-love and tries to inspire other to do the same. She goes to the gym frequently and posts photos and videos from her workouts with inspirational messages. However, one day a fellow gym patron steals her favorite squat rack and Crystal will not stand for it. Not even if said "squat rack thief" is smoking hot.

Scott, said squat rack thief, is a firefighter and maybe loves antagonizing Crystal a bit too much. It's not long until their rivalry becomes something more. However, upon being invited to her grandmother's engagement party, Crystal sees Scott...with the family of her grandmother's fiancée. This curveball makes things awkward at first, but Crystal and Scott can't deny their attractions. When Crystal posts a photo of the two of them to her social media, things take a horrible turn as the internet trolls threaten to destroy their budding relationship. Can they survive the relentless cyberbullying and stay strong?

I was back and forth with this book. There are parts I love and parts I didn't like so much. I really liked the way the book's message is portrayed towards the end and I liked that Crystal wasn't working out in order to lose weight. However, I didn't like some of the things that Crystal did due to her overthinking. As a fellow overthinker, I can totally understand how and why she would have thought these things, but I feel like there was no resolution of her actions; Crystal was never called out for acting on her overthinking. Also, sometimes Scott was kind of a jerk. But overall I enjoyed this book.

This debut is a cute romance between a fitness instagrammer and a firefighter. It’s a body positive enemies to friends to lovers. Their witty banter and slow burn romance really sold me on their relationship.

I thought it was quite weird though that their grandparents were getting married and trying to set them up—wouldn’t they technically be step-cousins now? At least they met before the grandparents marriage was introduced.

I really liked the themes of the novel: friendship, family dynamics, diversity, and body acceptance. I would definitely recommend it!

As a bookstagrammer, I'm so happy to read this one but a fellow booksta-friend! Amy did a great job at setting the scene and making you feel like you were friends with her characters. They were easy to root for and this was a great quick read.

2.5 rounded up

This was just ok. The characters were one dimensional ( our MC is a fitness instagrammer and that's all we know of her). The (hetero, "enemies" to lovers) romance was fine, nothing very exciting or much chemistry. Most of the plot, and even the grand gesture, are based in the gym, which was too much even for this reader who picked it up because of the fitness theme.

And now for the troubling bit. The author talks at length about representing all bodies being represented positively and loved for what they can do, but apparently this applies to women only. We have yet another romance where it's focus is body positivity and has a female with a non-typical for standard romance books body, yet the male lead has a body like Greek Gods of mythology. And boy do we ogle his nearly impossible to attain for the average man physique. The hypocrisy turned me off from the beginning and nothing brought this reader back into the story.

For those of you who would counter by saying that women read romance and that's the body type we want to read about, I will tell you that I am a librarian and I know for certain that men do read romance, and they want to see body diversity in the male leads. It's time for someone to step up.
