My Thoughts

When Callies mother died before her sixteenth birthday she found out Mom’s best friend at work, Deana Gorman and husband Cecil had been chosen to take her in as a ward.

Far from being the happy ending Callies mother hoped far it instead became a life they both never imagined.

Escaping one day to town she finds herself at the mercy of a stranger, who luckily is an honorable young man.

Clayton Wellman’s son Ted was in town the day Callie finally managed to make her way from the Gormans home so she could leave.

What transpires after she and Ted marry is a sweetly told tale of two lost souls finding comfort and a home with each other that neither expected or looked for when they went through with their hastily made bargain.

I have no idea what the original release was like but this updated/rewritten version was exactly what makes author a favorite of mine to read!

Cassie O'Malley is on the run. Her evil foster parent sold her to a sex trafficking ring, so she grabbed her grandparents' wedding rings, enough clothes to fit in a backpack and fled. When the bus she's in stops, she goes into a café to use the restroom and the local sheriff is there looking for a girl who fits her description. She quickly sits at a table where a young man is having his coffee and pretends she's with him. She pleads with her eyes for him to go along and he does. His name is Ted Wellman and he's still trying to get over the death of his adventurous twin brother. He thinks "what would John do?" and decides to save the pretty girl. Apparently, Ted can't shut up when he's nervous and he tells the sheriff that she's his fiancée and they are eloping. The sheriff calls their bluff and says he can have them married right away. So, by the end of the day Ted has got himself a wife..

I have enjoyed Carolyn Brown's books for years, but this one was published as Love is The Answer under the pseudonym Abbey Gray. It's one of her very first works and it's been updated, revised and revamped to be more contemporary, but it still very much has the feel of a romance novel written in 1997. It's very sweet, drips with southern charm and you have to accept some plot points that aren't very plausible, but it's a quick, sweet , enjoyable read for a lazy afternoon, probably while drinking sweat tea on a porch. Or a mint julep.

I was a little disappointed with the resolution given regarding the evil foster parent. I really wanted him to get more than a slap on the hand, but it's very much on par with the tone of the book.

Cassie and ted are cute together. It's a little insta-lovey, but The Wellmans are so amazing that you get all warm and fuzzy with their story. I don't know if this is part of the revamp, but I like that Mama Wellman is Mexican and we get to meet her parents and her abuelita.

Pretty much a closed door, fade to black romance. If you are looking for sweet, you've got it. If you looking for spice, look elsewhere.

Possible Triggers: toxic relationship with parental figures, dealing with grief, mentions of a death by vehicular accident and of sex trafficking

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and the author for the advanced copy.

Know in advance that this is an update of Love is the Answer which was published in 1997 under Brown's pen name. The basic premise- that Cassie, in fleeing from an evil guardian, meets and marries the gentle Ted. a farmer. Cassie, an orphan has not known love and Ted is mourning the death of his twin. These two start out with a fake marriage and, of course, it turns into something real. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'm not sure why, because I'm usually a fan of Brown, but this one didn't capture me the way I had hoped. That said, I'm sure others will enjoy it.

The blurb says the female MC is on the run from "her overbearing family". A few pages in we find out this actually means the abusive guardian who tried to rape her and sell her into sexual slavery. Literally.

This is not the light, sweet, funny rom-com I was hoping for. It's also a re=publication of a book from the late 90s, which felt evident.

Readers may find the story worthwhile if they know what they're getting into, but for me the surprise and the subject matter were just too jarring.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

This was a really good story. Cassie was running from a man that was going to sell her. She runs into Ted who pretends to be her boyfriend. They tell the cops they are getting married. The cops insist that they get married and off they go. Cassie is very upset that it happens, but Ted wants to work it out. She doesn't understand how Ted's family is so nice to her. Cassie has some decisions to make and she's working on figuring out what she wants.
The story had good characters, a good storyline and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
I got this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

Carolyn Brown is one of my favorite authors! This was a fun read. Cassie turns Ted's life upside down from the moment their eyes meet, but it is all for the best for both of them. Cassie brings out a light in Ted that has been out since his brother has been gone and his family can see it. They embrace her right away and they are the family she has never had. Great story!

I received a complimentary copy from sourcebooks casablanca and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Oh man, I am now a Carolyn Brown fan and can you blame me ? Bride for a day was a delight and it had everything I needed in a romance. A hot Texan Cowboy, a girl with an inheritance and a knack for getting into trouble ,a sheriff in need of justice and family values. If you love a good marriage of convenience then this is the book for you. Absolutely enjoyed every minute of it!

Bride for a Day by Carolyn Brown is a lovely fast-paced romance that is sure to sweep you off your feet. The characters are well-written and so much fun. I did not want to put this book down and did not want the story to end. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a republication of a much earlier romance and it was pretty evident from the simplicity of the plot. I love Carolyn Brown books, but she has really improved her writing over the years from the time she wrote this book.

This was a marriage of convenience trope romance. It was sweet and clean and basically a good story, but the development of the plot just wasn't what it should/could have been.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book Netgalley. All thoughts are my own.

This is a young romance novel. The main characters are 21 and younger. Cassie is on the run from her abusive Guardian that has sold her into a Sex Trafficking ring. Ted is the young cowboy that happened to be in the right place at the right time to 'save her'. They tell a lie to a sheriff and poof, they are married within the day.

This is a quick read. It has a lot of southern (OK and TX) charm.

Although Cassie is running from a man that has no legal claim to her. Ted is facing his own internal demons from the death of his twin brother 4 years earlier. That is about all of the conflict there is though. There is nothing endearing you to them together. It is missing the big dramatic moment that pushes them together finally.

I wouldn't like pick up this book or any in a series of these characters again, but as a one time quick read, it is fine.

Love this sweet story about finding love in the most unexpected way. Two young characters who are at a crossroads in life who are in need of one another. A wonderful young love story.

This is an engaging story with very relatable, down-to-earth characters. It definitely keeps you turning the pages, because you care about the characters right from page one. I look forward to recommending this to readers who enjoy traditional contemporary romances.

Cassie O’Malley has had a rough start to life. After her mother’s death she has spent 4 years in the care of an abusive foster father and at 20 she finds herself evading the law when her foster father accuses her of theft. Ted Wellman is her knight in shining armor when he provides her with a cover story that allows her to escape from the law but ends with her becoming Mrs. Wellman…

Carolyn Brown’s Bride for the Day takes the reader to a small Oklahoma town and drops you into a warm, welcoming, Catholic family that, with the help of some thoughtful spirits, gives you a fun read about two people who find they have more to look forward to in life than just survival.

The power of family, love and learning to let go drives these characters in a moving journey as they decide if either of them really want Cassie to be a bride for just a day.

While I enjoyed the author's writing style as much as usual, the extreme youth of the leading characters was very distracting. While young people this age are, very occasionally, this mature (especially in today's world), the story would have been much more viable if they had been a few years older. Also, the total acceptance of the leading male characters parents was not particularly plausible.

Such a sweet Southern charm read; it makes me want to grab a cool sweet tea and sit on the porch with another book!

A young girl on the run from an evil foster parent who has sold her to a sex ring, gets off a bus at a diner and, seeing the local sheriff, panics and asks the first guy she meets to pretend they know each other. The shy cowboy is verbose under pressure and the two strangers find themselves married before the day is out.

Readers will love the small town Texas setting and the underlying theme of overcoming tragedy, facing our fears, the love of a family, and the suggestion of fate. The characters are wonderful (with the exception of Cecil), the Wellman extended family will warm your heart, the instant chemistry will make your heart flutter and the healing of bruised hearts will restore your faith in humanity. I'd love to spend time with the Wellman family as they seem like such a supportive group of people. I especially loved that they weren't judgmental and that their son's happiness was most important. They trusted his judgment over the appearance of what he'd done and the worry about what others would think.

It’s predictable. It’s a quick, light read. It’s sappy in parts. It stretches the concept of plausibility. BUT… it’s a great beach read focusing on trust, healing, fresh starts and it ends happily ever after. Sometimes you just need a light, fluffy, saccharine-laced read.

Cassie O'Malley is on the run from her mom's BFF husband. She has died and he is selling Cassie. She gets off the bus and in north Texas at the diner for a bathroom break; she sees the sheriff waiting on her in the diner. She decides to go set down at a table with Ted. She asks for his help with the sheriff; they end up being married that day to fool the sheriff.
Ted has been in a fog ever since his twin brother died. He decides to help Cassie and take her home with him for his uncle to help with an annulment.
Ted's family ask her to stay, and she goes to work for Ted's uncle as an assistant in his doctor's office.
It seems Ted's family love her because she is getting Ted out of his shell.
Loved this story

Bride for a Day was a great read as I started it but the further into the story, I got it just lost something for me.
I wanted to feel the connection between Cassie and Ted but it for me did not happen. It was a sweet romance to a certain degree. I liked the small town for the setting of the book.
I know there are a lot of small-town romance story fans out there that will absolutely love this one but for it me it was a way to pass some time.
Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for the copy of Bride for a Day. This is my personal review.

This is a good book. The two main characters are Cassie and Ted. They meet when Cassie is on the run and two sheriffs are looking for her. Cassie has no living relatives and has been taking care by a friend of her mother. The friend recently passed and her husband sold Cassie to the black market. He told the police Cassie stole from him and was crazy. Ted saw she was in a fix and offered to marry her and then get an annulment. So they got married. They have lots of issues between them but together they worked them out and fall in love.

3/5 stars

Tropes:
- Marriage of convenience
- Cowboy/Farmer hero

It was a really sweet story about Cassie and Ted and how they ended married. The story is sweet like rom com and YA but I was a little disappointed because through the chapters some parts happened so fast or didn't make sense since it contradicted previous statements.
However, it was such a fast read and I liked the romance in it.

Thanks NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for providing me an ARC in exchange of an honest review.
