Ginny marries Jeff and moves into his rich snobby neighborhood and deals with the fallout of it all. I listened to the audio book and enjoyed the book.

I’m not typically a fan of rich people behaving badly stories, but this was a definite exception. Ginny, the only character who doesn’t come from money, brought so much normalcy to the story. I felt bad for her having to deal with so much negativity but I think she handled it with grace and poise. And I loved the scenes with Mrs Clucklesworth, her daughter’s chicken.

In Welcome to the Neighborhood, Lisa Roe gives the perspective of a mother trying her best in a new living situation. With a new husband, and a new neighborhood, Ginny must try to fit in in a town where she clearly stands out. When certain things start happening, Ginny decides to set things straight and protect her daughter. I enjoyed the characters and loved Ginny.

Welcome to the Neighborhood by Lisa Roe is a funny and heartwarming momcom, perfect for fans of Laurie Gelman, Leslie Rasmussen, Lea Gellar, and Alexa Martin. I read this book back in the spring and the antics of Ginny’s crazy neighbors have stuck with me.

This book has a funny storyline filled with neighborhood shenanigans and awkward encounters as Ginny gets to know the other parents in her neighborhood and at her daughter’s school.

There are also more serious scenarios dealing with blended families, new friendships, and navigating the tween years. Roe blended the two vibes of the book with a perfect amount of wit and humor.

There are mean girls in both Ginny’s life and her daughter Harri’s life, and my heart went out to both characters. Female friendships are so damn hard sometimes! Roe wrote situations we’ve all dealt with, making this book very relatable for any reader - mom or not.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for what’s next from this author!

Synopsis: After years of struggling to make ends meet, Queens single mom Ginny falls for sweet, divorced Jeff, and relishes the idea of moving with her quirky eleven-year-old daughter Harri to his home in an upscale New Jersey suburb. And then she meets the neighbors. Ginny is quickly thrust into the complicated realities of a neighborhood defined by the ever-shifting alliances of PTA moms, Real Housewife contenders, and their mean-girl daughters. When the neighbors’ secrets, back-stabbing, and bad behavior take a devastating toll on her daughter and new marriage, Ginny must decide what really matters—and protect it at all costs.

My Thoughts: This is a thought provoking story about the love between a mother and a daughter. Some parts of the story are exaggerated a bit, but it is the author’s way of showing how posh suburban living can be, and I think it was brilliantly done. The characters were developed so well, with depth, empowerment, growth, and over the top. The author’s writing style was complex, thought provoking, light humor, powerful, heartwarming, and brilliantly done. This book released right before Mother’s Day and I believe that was the perfect release. This story delivers an important message in today’s culture, it is important to know your worth and stand your ground. There were some really sweet moments that outweighed the badly behaved neighbors. I recommend picking up this book for a light fun summer read!

Super cute contemporary romance. Ginny was an excellent character! Very well rounded and heart warming story.

Ginny has been living in Queens, New York with her preteen daughter. Ginny’s daughter is a bit quirky. Her and her mom’s lives are about to be uprooted. Ginny has remarried and moved to a New Jersey suburb. It is quite a different experience from what she knew in Queens.

Sometimes things are tough. For example, there is a neighbor who has her eye on Ginny’s husband. Will this family make it through? Will there be a happy ending after all? There definitely are challenges in this at times funny and warm first novel. This is a good summer read. Those who are raising preteen daughters will become absorbed in the parent-child relationship that Ginny and Harri share.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this title. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely love Gilmore Girls, but this book was just ok for me. As much as I wanted to devour it, it was just fine for me.

This Gilmore Girls style story was about a mother-daughter relationship and included gossipy, backstabbing neighbors. It wasn’t a rom com like I thought it’d be but I enjoyed it.

This is an interesting mother/daughter story by a debut author. Ginny has recently moved from a small apartment in Queens to a big house in an upscale neighborhood in suburban NJ. The reason for the move was Ginny’s recent marriage so she moves into the house her new husband had with his ex wife. Ginny hopes to fit in and also worries how her 11 year old daughter will adapt. It soon becomes apparent that the new neighborhood is not what Ginny hoped it would be. Her daughter, Harri, struggles to find her place in school thanks to the mean girl clique. Ginny questions whether this move was the right decision for her and Harri. This was an entertaining book and I enjoyed the relationship between Ginny and Harri. There were some important issues addressed in the book as well as some heartwarming and humorous moments. This was a great debut novel and I look forward to more from this author.

Thank you so much to Lisa Roe, Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the advanced copy. This book was released April 5th!

When single mom, Ginny and her daughter Harri move into a fancy neighborhood with her new husband, she is hoping that they’ll fit right in. Cue in the gossipy wives & drama! Oh and chickens on the kitchen table haha.

I enjoyed the mother-daughter relationship in this one and watching them navigate a new life together. It was a light and fun book, however there were also some serious issues as well that I thought the author touched well on.

I’ve heard the narrator for the audiobook version was fantastic, which makes me sad that I missed out on that haha.

I enjoyed this one, more of a contemporary women's fiction than romance for me but it explores the mother/daughter relationship as a child moves from being a child to being more of a teen.

Ginny and Harri are starting over. After living in a single bedroom apt in Queens, they're moving to the suburbs of New Jersey after Ginny gets a second chance at love when she marries Jeff, a divorcee with an adult son. What she doesn't anticipate when she moves is the neighborhood wives, headed up by Margot. Margot is exactly the stay at home mom you'd picture if you watch any of those Real Housewives shows, always put together, head of every committee, and the boss whenever she's around, a real Queen Bee sort. Ginny is the opposite, more of an artistic free spirit, not impressed by material things or into her looks...but she has a weakness, her eleven year old daughter, Harri who is still more child and more like Ginny, not into material things. Desperate for Harri to fit into a new school and make friends, Ginny and Harri try to mold themselves into "fitting in" with the neighborhood and almost lose themselves.

I enjoyed this overall, probably because I have an 11 year old daughter and I've seen some of the things Harri struggles with with my own child. In the world of Lululemon wearing, tennis playing, facial addicted SAHM's it can be easy to get caught up with trying to fit the mold. They're just mother's, right? Wrong, as the social hierarchy and headgames involved in fitting in can be more intense than any high school popularity contest!

The romance aspect in this was different. It starts strong, almost like a Cinderella story, and then the lead male is absent for most of the book, causing our heroine to make some decisions that were sometimes questionable but only because she had been made to feel so unsure in the new life she had chosen.

Overall I liked it and would read another book by this author.

Welcome to the Neighborhood was a really good read that shed a light on the idea that things may not always be as they seem. I loved Ginny and Harri's mother/daughter relationship. it had a touch of the Gilmore Girls quirky fun. A fun read that will have you laughing out loud along the way,

This is a perfect rom com to enjoy in the warm spring outdoors of NY. It still hits on a crucial point of bullying, fitting in and how to stick up for yourself. A cute book for a mother and older daughter

After marrying a wonderful man, Ginny and her daughter Harri find themselves in upscale neighborhood hell. Ginny finds herself sucked slowly in, as does Harri. Extricating themselves makes for a good story! The women running the neighborhood seem villainous at times, but are they really? I enjoyed all the revelations, backstabbing, and adjusting to married life. Ginny and Harri are my heroes!

Would that we all could be strong and positive like Ginny in Welcome to the Neighborhood. She is a boho Queens mother to a tween girl who marries a Jersey man of means and moves to the suburbs, finally able to give her daughter the life she wants her to have. But the neighbors! So many mean girls, and not just the kids at school.

There is drama and there is love and by the end, even the shallowest of characters shows depth and heart. Well, maybe not everyone. Some people are just the worst.

This book has Gilmore Girls, Real Housewives, and Mean Girls vibes, so if you like that sort of thing, you'll like this, too. It is a quick read and fun, and I wish I could be a little more like Ginny, maybe.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
