Two Little Girls is a story of the choice a mother makes. Choosing between her two daughters is not only intense for Lizzie, its also emotional for us readers. The story is suspenseful and figuratively I turned the pages on my kindle so fast! But what I want to point out is the author’s talent to capture a mother’s feelings into this story. The ending can spark discussions, but this is a twisted thriller you don’t want to miss! Unexpected hit for me.

Many thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark for the reader’s copy.

Lizzie and her two daughter, Becca and Portia have traveled to a remote cottage in the Scottish Borders for a week of rest and fresh air. Unfortunately, Lizzie’s husband, Dan, was unable to get away from work to accompany them.

They have had a good time and are now on their way home. In the dark, Lizzie hits something in the road sending the car down an embankment and into a lake. She struggles to get out of the car as the water rises knowing she can’t get both girls out. She grabs a girl and struggles to get out and swims to the bank where she does CPR on her. She tries to get to the other girl but cannot do so. It was Portia that she saved and both Lizzie and Portia were in the hospital for some time afterward, with Portia barely surviving. Three months later and the guilt at not being able to rescue Becca is driving her crazy.

When the police come to her door asking to know why she went off the road, she just cannot remember what happened. They seem to think that she fell asleep at the wheel which she denies. She begins to see a counselor to help her with her grief and guilt.

As Dan is an attorney and has defended some shady people, he and Lizzie wonder if someone from his past could be retaliating against them because he lost their case. The tension that Dan, Lizzie and Portia undergo is about to break them all apart. What happened and why?

This is a taut and emotional story that explores grief and the guilt of not being able to save both girls. For the most part, I enjoyed the story and tried to solve who was after them, but I was surprised. I’m sure readers will enjoy this book.

This book was alittle too intense for me. I thought it was depressing and sad. It is however, a story about harsh consequences and loss. I enjoyed reading this novel and I did finally get sucked into the story. I think the author has a brilliant mind and a gift for capturing the human condition.

Two Little Girls by Laura Jarrett is haunting. There is a decision that a mother should never have to make and it was heartbreaking. There were times when I had to put this down because there was so much intensity. Of course, I then had to pick it right back up because I was itching to know what was going to happen. Two Little Girls is a very emotional book but so worth the ride.

This psychological suspense had a Sophie’s Choice dilemma. And then it gets more emotional. It drains you in from page one and hold you there until the very end. It’s incredibly twisted but wonderful!

Do you ever have a recurring bad dream or worst-case scenario that you think about over and over? Mine is what I would do if I had the kids in the car and we went over a cliff and we landed in a lake. How would I get them out? Which kid would I start with? Well, that’s the premise of this book: Lizzie is swerves off the road with her two girls in the back seat, and only has time to get one girl out of the car as it starts to fill with water. Then, the police want to investigate the crash, adding more devastation to Lizzie’s life. This premise was so interesting to me and held my attention for the whole book. I also loved taking a look at the various forms that grief can take and how it can affect people’s actions. I did have an issue with the language used to talk about a specific type of person in this book, but it’s a spoiler, so i won’t say more in this review. This is a short thriller at 288 pages and worth picking up for a beach read or weekend trip.

Two Little Girls is a twisted psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes the entire time. The decision that Lizzie made is one I hope I never have to make . When faced within a horrific tragedy how do you choose between two of your own children? BUT is Lizzie faking her amnesia in order to cover up what really happened the day of the accident?

This is a story you cant really review because you do not want to spoil it for other readers. I will tell you I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I felt as though I was on an emotional roller coaster. Dealing with the loss of a child is really hard to read and might be a trigger for some but this book was so well done and really went elbow deep on narrating the perfect story.

I would highly recommend this five star read.

Oh my heart. My heart with this story. Having to choose what child to keep alive? It took me a while to get my head around that more than anything else. My heart broke in a million pieces for Lizzie and then having to go through an investigation. It was a lot to digest. I"m still wrapping my head around the choice!

Thank you to Sourcebooks for this copy of two little girls! I was had a good time reading and it really flew by!

I didn’t know what to expect going into the book. I thought it would be your standard a child goes missing and we find out who and what happened. However, this book went deeper and really showed the grief of a mother who’s lost her child. I think this topic is often skipped over in other books bc the focus is mostly on solving the murder rather than the real life effects the murder has on a family. I thought this was an interesting perspective. I also enjoyed the contrast of Lizzie’s grief and processing of trauma vs her husbands. I thought it was realistic in the sense that we all cope in different manors.

The book itself does something I love which is short chapters. I think, especially for mystery/thrillers, this really moves the plot along and encourages you to continue reading. I also liked getting chapters from the person watching our grieving family.

Overall, I thought this was a solid read and something I wouldn’t normally pick up. I would recommend to friends and would be interested to see what this author does next!

Thank you to the publishers at Sourcebooks Landmark and Netgalley for my copy of Two Little Girls.

Two Little Girls is a story of loss. When Lizzie and her two daughters are coming home from a short holiday together, an accident changes all of their lives. Recovering in the hospital, Lizzie can’t remember what exactly happened to cause the crash, and now the police think she may have fallen asleep at the wheel. With no way to disprove that, Lizzie will try to move on with her life and forgive herself, until one day, a discovery shows them that the crash was indeed intentional. Desperate to find out what happened, Lizzie and her husband Dan will drop everything to discover the truth.

This was such a sad story of a mother’s loss. As a mother myself, I can empathize with what Lizzie had to do. I honestly don’t know what I would do in her place. I enjoyed the revelations introduced slowly by the author. She did a great job of slowly peeling back all of the layers of their family life. The ending fell a little flat for me, but I enjoyed the journey!

What a tragic and heartbreaking story.

Dan and Lizzie are both barristers, with different concentrations. When Dan can't get away from work, Lizzie goes on holiday with her two daughters, 15 year old Portia and 8 year old Becca without him. Portia is more of a daddy's girl and frequently at odds with her mom. Becca has been called their sunbeam and the spitting image of Lizzie. On a rainy ride home they are involved in an accident and Lizzie has to make an impossible choice.
I was really feeling the chill when she kept diving into the cold lake.
Months later Lizzie is still suffering from amnesia and the cops are questioning if she is faking it in order to cover up how the accident really happened.

Dan was a real meany pants for a bit there, but Laura wrote his breakdown very well.

I loved Aidan as a supportive character.

I'm not sure I agree with Lizzie's choices, but who knows what one would do if they were in the same circumstance.

Whenever I read a story about the loss of a child I always thank my lucky stars mine is alive and well. I know that's not always the case for others, so be aware this might be a trigger for some.

This is my first time with this author and I'd for sure give her work a read again.

A mother's worst nightmare comes true when she plunges into the icy water and only has time to save one child. Once the accident is investigated it seems that maybe it wasn't really an accident.

A tragic story that deals with loss and grief. One thing I loved about this story was its ability to show how each family member dealt with the death of their sister/daughter and how that death impacted each of them differently. I also loved the mystery side of the story. I feel like it combined two of my favorite genres into one. I was intrigued by the mystery and heartbroken over certain parts of the story.

There is a certain aspect of the story that I was not a huge fan of and maybe I will feel differently after sitting on this story for a while. It's a mothers worst nightmare to choose between two children. I couldn't even put myself in her shoes because it was too hard. In the end, there is a reason she chose one daughter over the other and I am not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I am not sure the author should have gone there and on the other she went in a direction other authors would have been too afraid to go. So maybe that's a good thing. I do think it was handled well. I think? I'm rambling. Overall this was just ok for me. I wasn't wowed by the ending either. I would be curious to chat with someone who has read it though. So if you do let me know!

Lizzie's split second decision will reverberate throughout her life and the lives of her husband and daughter. Which daughter- Portia or Becca- does she save when her car plunges into icy waters? In some ways the choice doesn't matter as much as the fact that she had to choose. She's living with guilt, her daughter is living with trauma and survivor guilt, and her husband is angry and confused. And the police are investigating her because there's not an obvious reason for the accident. Was it a disgruntled client of her husband? Did she fall asleep at the wheel? This has some surprising twists so no spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

An adult fiction debut by children’s and YA novelist Laura Jarrett. She delves into the troubling subject of the death of a young child and the effect on her family, as they struggle with the tragedy.
Lizzie runs off the road for no apparent reason and plunges into a deep lake. Unable to save both of her girls, she slides into a deep depression, with no recall how the accident occurred or why she was unable to save both girls. The police are of no help, suspecting her, or maybe her husband.
As the family slowly falls apart, Lizzie painstakingly attempts to recall the details of what led up to the accident. Her husband, who was so supportive, leaves the home, leaving her to cope on her own and providing no support for the daughter that survived and is struggling.
This is an emotional story of how fragile the family bonds can be, when a tragedy impacts them. There are suspicions and Lizzie suspects she is being followed by someone, wanting to harm her. Slowly she begins to fit the pieces together for a very unexpected climax.
This is a well written novel, with interesting although complex characters. I thought it was a very nice effort for an author moving from YA to Adult fiction.
My thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the ARC. A new author for me, that I enjoyed very much.

Lizzie is returning from vacation with her girls when another car tries to force her off the road. Her vehicle crashes thru the woods and into the water, trapping her and her sleeping daughters deep under the river. Barely able to escape herself, yet attempting to save her children, she realizes she can only save one.
A great read involving trying to discover what actually happened and how tragedy effects a family. I highly recommend reading this book.

What would you do if you had to choose which of your two children would survive a terrible accident? That is the dilemma the main character, Lizzie, must decide within a split second. This book made me question the moral “what ifs” of having to chose between two children if I were in Lizzie’s shoes.

The author wrote the book with a lot of emotion, and I felt connected and heartbroken for each and every main character. For someone without children, or that haven’t struggled to have children on their own, this book may be a bit difficult to relate to.

A mystery begins to unfold; as the main characters are grieving the lost of the daughter that was not chose to save. Although the book was well-written, the climax left much to be desired. I was hoping for a plot twist, like how the beginning of the book started out.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy of this book for my honest review.

This is a great premise for a story, and I did enjoy it, however, it dragged on in too many places for me.

Lizzie was driving home at night from a holiday with her two daughters when a tragic accident happens. One of her children survives, one doesn’t. Both she and her husband are unendingly haunted with the ramifications of this accident. Was it truly an accident, was foul play involved, did Lizzie fall asleep? There are too many unanswered questions. The surviving daughter needs both of them but they each handle their grief differently and only one parent can give their full attention to their surviving child.

With the police being less than helpful, Lizzie undertakes her own investigation. What she discovers is both heartbreaking and horrible.

I give this book 3.5 stars simply for the rambling on in parts. It was an enjoyable read though.

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the advanced copy. This is my honest review.

This was a well written book overall with enough complicated family dynamics and intense drama to keep the reader engaged. Some parts were a bit difficult to read, but it's understandable with the topic. the ending was unexpected, and I appreciated the author's notes for the explanation behind things.
