This is an outstanding book with Hunger Game vibes at first glance. However, it is so unique that I quickly shed the Hunger Game vibe thoughts. This is the book that will bring dystopian back to the forefront and I am incredibly excited about that.
This books strength is the protagonist. Put her in any book and she would win the reader over every time. She is supported by great world building and unique ideas.
I don't have any critiques for this book, because it is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I already ordered a physical copy since this was an ebook arc. I'll be re reading this book again and again. I will probably even be able to convince my husband, who never reads, to read this book!
This is your next favorite read! Dystopian fan or not, you will fall in love with it and be begging for more.

Reminiscant of The Hunger Games, but so totally different

I enjoyed this book so much. I am hoping there will be a sequel.

This book had me hooked from the first line until the end.

Chosen ones are given the opportunity to become immortal. The losers, however, face a disturbing future. Silver discovers much about herself and human nature and her life, her families and roommates quickly changes

The book is full of adventure and unexpected events.

An exciting and engrossing read;that will have you on the edge of your seat!

I really enjoyed this book.
I loved the author's take on this dystopian
world. It was very interesting and different
from your regular dystopian book.
I can't wait for the next book.
Silver was pretty bada**, she didn't take
crap from anyone, even if her life was on
the line. The cliffhanger was really captivating.

It is such a shame that this didn't come out during the dystopia heyday as this is fantastic.
There is no doubt that it will be touted as Hunger Games meets 1984 but I think this does it a disservice as the idea is very unique and the execution is brilliant.
I thought Silver's character was realistic and engaging and her rationale for things made more sense than a lot of teen or YA protagonists.
I don't want to spoil anything by adding details about what actually occurs within Olympus and why those 'lucky' ones are chosen by the Elite to come to Olympus but I was guessing along with the main character and it was such nice feeling to not know exactly what was going on.
It was also great for there not to be a love story. I know this is only book 1 and the story ends on a cliff-hanger but I much prefer the character to be driven by circumstances than romance.
If you would like to re-immerse yourself into the YA dystopia without worrying about all of the tropes and cliches then this is definitely one you want to read.
Highly recommend.

I am a sucker for a good YA dystopian novel. The Girl Who Refuses Immortality does not disappoint. This is the first book I have read by Shade Owens; however, it will not be the last.

I liked the story, the characters, the plot, and the world-building. A solid read and book.

I've been following Shade Owens writing career since their very first book was published. I was super excited to see The Girl Who Refused Immortality on Netgalley. I requested it immediately. I miss the Dystopian era of YA. This book was very reminiscent of it. It mostly reminded me of Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Alita
Battle Angel by Pat Cadigan, and Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell (without the space scifi elements). It took me a bit to get into the story. But it was a fast-paced quick read once it got going. Beware, there is a *cliffhanger*. I will be picking up book 2. Shade Owens is a lovely author. I highly recommend anything they write.

In a dystopian society an unlikely and unassuming heroine emerges. A hero that does not want immortality and the perks of being an Elite. Driven by love of family and morality instilled by her grandmother Silver is relatable and likable. Characters in this book come alive and bring you into this new society. Would you want to be immortal? At what cost? I loved this book. Strong female characters were throughout the book. The characters were real and allowed you to become totally immersed in the world the in which the characters were living/surviving. I appreciated that the foreshadowing was subtle and look forward to the next book in the series to find out if I was right!
