I love Poe and approached and requested this book because of that. I’m afraid to say I didn’t like it very much. The idea on which the book is built is very good and the writer talented, but there were simply too mangiare anachronisms for me to enjoy everything fully.

I thought the writer was talented. One of the misfortunes of being an older bookworm is that I have become picky. Being rather saturated with a feel for what this era is known for means that a few mistakes can make me lose interest rather quickly. I am sure what bothered me will not bother younger readers, but it is unfortunate when an era is not represented in total honesty thanks to fastidious research.

This. I liked this. It was so cool to walk alongside Poe knowing thst he would be as amazingly popular as he is today. I don't normally like time-travel too much but this one was fantastic.

I requested a review copy of this book based on its premise but gave up after a few chapters. The jarring anachronisms, historical inaccuracies, prose that often verged on purple it was so overblown, lack of dramatic engagement, and other amateurish errors quickly eradicated any desire to go on. The author clearly has talent, but publishing a sub-par book like this does him a disservice in the long run. I really wish that he had foregone premature publication to improve his storytelling skills, prose craft, and research until he is producing work on a professional level,

I have a love for Poe that's dear to me. I first came across one of Poe's work in middle school which started my obsession. I was excited to find a book that included Poe in a fictional world. The plot of the story was interesting but I felt some of the characters were lacking. I was kind of disappointed by how Poe was portrayed but everybody else has their own idea and opinion on how Poe acted back then. I did enjoy that the author used Poe's nickname which made him feel more real in this novel. It was a fun read though and the idea was there!

Interesting storyline although a bit on the gory side. Nicely sets up the basis for many of Poe's future stories along the way through the narrative. A bit more background on why these things were happening and who the mysterious folks controlling what was happening would have added to the story.

I had very high hopes for this book as I've always enjoyed horror books and Poe is always a good topic for me. However, I just couldn't really get into this book. Things just didn't seem to be continuous, such as when two characters have a conversation as if they are side by side but really are in separate jail cells or how easily the book wrapped up. I thought that it certainly needed a bit of cleaning up, but has the bones of a great story. The premise is excellent, a man steals a book and then finds himself back in time, defending Poe himself. I wanted to love it but just struggled to even finish and I feel bad that it wasn't for me.

This was a fun read about time travel. Appropriately, for any novel that mentions Poe there is plenty of gore, violence and weirdness. It did seem to leave a lot of unanswered questions. Why or how were the time travelers selected? What was the opposing evil force? Perhaps this is the start of a series and it will all be resolved?

Overall enjoyable but if you don't like violence or gore be warned there is plenty.

This was an arc but my opinion was my own.

Although I was really interested in the plot of this one, I tried several times to get into this book and couldn't get past the first few chapters. Although written well, it just wasn't for me

I am in the minority with my feelings about this book. It’s not the topic, but just the way it was written. Leaving aside standard ARC issues (spelling, wrong words, etc.), I just struggled to engage with it. I felt it a bit convoluted, clunky, and hard to connect with, which made it difficult for me to pick up and continue. I’ve given up at 59% where Richard and Eddie, in prison and in neighbouring cells, have just had a three-page conversation in which they would have had to be sharing a cell, before being let out of their separate cells. Obviously just not for me.

Fast paced and a thrill to read. This is a great read for Halloween time or if you ever need a spooky story!

Thanks to Netgalley and Foundations Book Publishing for the chance to read and review this title. I was drawn to it because of the reference to Poe. The main character, Richard, finds himself drawn to a book in a local bookshop, so drawn that he steals the book. When he wakes up the next morning, he is no longer in his familiar world but in the 1800s. He meets and befriends Eddie, a West Point cadet. Strange things occur from there.

Parts of this book are very graphic descriptions of torture and may be triggering or uncomfortable for some readers. It was more graphic than my typical read but not overwhelming for me. The characters are interesting. At points the plot meanders. I found the resolution a bit quick and mildly unsatisfactory. I wanted more of an explanation for the strange happenings. Additionally, the formatting of the ebook made parts of it difficult to read. I am uncertain if I would read more from this author.

The opinions expressed are given freely and are completely mine.

I know it's niche, but I love mysteries featuring fictionalized versions of historical figures. I think I've read at least three featuring Edgar Allan Poe. Now it's at least four, and The Poe Predicament is a fine addition to that very, very specific genre.
A quick, well-paced story of time travel, murder, evil entities and speculation about just what inspired Poe to write his morbid tales.
It was a lot of fun. The writing was even (although there were a handful of points where the language didn't feel authentic), the pace, like I said, was great, and I liked the way the characters were written. Also, it was a nice change to have it set before Poe became established. A lot of stories focus on the grim aspects of his life and his sad, mysterious death. It was interesting to see an imagining of a strong, youthful Poe.
I also thought the ending was very satisfying.

I kept going back and forth from 3.5 stars to 4 stars for this one.

Time travel, horror, history, and Edgar Allan Poe. This was a perfect mixture for me as I am a fan of all of these subjects. I sped through it pretty quickly.

The writing style just glided so easily throughout the whole story. The only issue I had, without saying too much, was the reason why the foes were defeated. It completely confused me. I needed some sort of background information to understand that part better.

Other than that small aspect, I enjoyed reading this unique story. Just imagine...how awesome would it be to go back in time and meet Poe? Would he have been a famous writer at the time? No. Would he have been drunk and rude? Quite possibly. But knowing how greatly he would be remembered after his death...well, I think that could be overlooked. 😄

Overall, I believe it will be another 4star read for me. Don't be afraid to get immersed in this imagining of how Poe's stories came to be.

I would like to show my appreciation to Netgally, the publisher, and author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this one. It was a quick and easy read. An impressive debut book for sure. My main issue was that the plot needed more fleshing out. Why were Alice and Richard chosen for time travel? What was this "secret" group of people that go back in time to stop bad things happening. Why did the "evil" spirits want Eddie to die? Just so he wouldn't become famous? I never fully understood the reasoning behind it all. I think if the author had taken the time to flesh out the story more. Included more backstory and world building. This would have been a 5 star book.

This paranormal mystery is an entertaining and gripping story that mixes horror, historical fiction and fantasy.
I liked it but some more world building would have helped.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This book was pretty bad. There are demons and possession and paintings that change from tranquil settings to hellfire and rape. It involves time traveling and a lot of things that are never explained. Somehow I doubt this book offered any inspiration for EA Poe's stories. I didn't get it. It was just too weird.

This was a fun time travel/horror book. This is definitely a book for fans of Edgar Allen Poe as there were many references to Poe's stories. I don't normally read horror but I still really enjoyed this one.

3.8 Stars

The Poe Predicament is a well-written horror novel with mystery and time-traveling playing crucial roles. Richard finds a rare copy of Tamerlane and Other Poems signed by Poe himself. When voices urge him to make a run with the book, he has no choice but to follow the orders.
The flight and the subsequent swoon takes him to 1831 when Poe was still Eddie, a budding writer who’s struggling to get his books published. Richard and Alice, a mysterious woman, have to help Poe prove his innocence for a crime he didn’t commit and ensure that the history isn’t altered. The interesting premise and mainly the mention of Poe made me grab this book.
What I Like:
• A straight-forward plotline with no unnecessary twists
• Decent pace
• Smooth integration of the plot and Poe’s works
• Flawed characters
Things That Didn’t Work for Me:
• Not enough detailing of the paranormal part
• Use of gore to create horror
• Sparse backstory; not enough to connect with any of the characters
To sum up, The Poe Predicament is a decent mystery thriller with quite a lot of gore and a good plotline.
Thank you, NetGalley and Foundations Book Publishing, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Richard Langley stumbles upon a signed copy of Tamerlane and other poems in his friend’s bookstore. He accidentally steals it and rushes home and falls asleep. When he wakes up it’s no longer 2021, it’s 1831. While trying to figure out how to get home, he ends up helping a man who has been accused of a crime he did not commit, otherwise history will be changed forever. And that man?Well, it’s Edgar Allen Poe.

I highly recommend it for those who love paranormal activity, time travel, and history. I wanted to read this the moment I read the description and I’m so glad I was able to read it. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
I really enjoy how Richard reacts to being in another time. He’s just so “Okay” about it, at least that’s how I perceived it, and it just works so well with the story.
This is a great spooky season read! The “main event” is so insane. So much happened that I was not expecting and things take a DARK turn, and I loved it! I would also say this a decent paced read as well. I got most of it done in one sitting but then dumb adult responsibilities stopped me from finishing.
