This book is bright, colourful and fun. It's not so much "zenned out" as it is "fluffed out".

Tarot is a divination tool, the author waters this down by saying it's a "disservice" to the tarot as it's so much more. Well, considering the origins of tarot were first a card game that graduated into a divinational tool and for centuries this is exactly what it was used for, and only since the advent of social media have people tried to change it to something more.. Secondly, you do not need to be psychic to use tarot as a divinational tool. This is completely false. I know many excellent readers who aren't psychically inclined that can read the future like no bodies business. A big pet peeve of mine is when newer readers/authors try to reinvent the tarot to make it more comfortable for themselves and not so scary. This is a huge disservice to tarot and robs its of its depth and intention. This reminds me of how Doreen Virtue tried to lighten up tarot.

This brings me to the meanings of each of the cards. While i always appreciate a condensed approach especially that gets to the guts of the meaning. I found the meanings lacking in every sense of the word. They are so fluffy and basic. In some cases can be down right bad advice. I say this because they don't offer other interpretations. The meaning of the card can change based on the question, the surrounding cards and it's placement in a spread. The 8 of cups doesn't always mean walk away, it can very well mean take time to yourself to get your poop in a group so you can come back for your 9 of cups moment. But at the same time in the description of how tarot works, the author mentions there are different meanings, but doesn't offer them. The descriptions tell a story without really giving meanings, this is where keywords would have been more helpful.

There is a section where she describes the major arcana and states that there are three lines but the fool is not included. There is no explanation as to why she feels this way and why the fool would be excluded if it's part of the tarot, or what these lines are. This is one of a few examples where things didn't align.

The book offers a few spreads as a starting point. I do like how she included different ways to read the 3 card spread that went beyond past/present/future. That was refreshing to see. Also, she includes a section on how to make your own spreads, which is simple, yet effective.

Something else i liked was the presentation of information. Sometimes in the attempt to be artistic it can make reading the content difficult and not easy to follow. I didn't find that with this layout, it was ascetically pleasing without inhibiting the reading experience. This i appreciated greatly.

I also enjoyed the brief key notes for things like numerology, elements, planets and signs, etc. It makes it so much easier to reference, and found it to be perfectly concise .

Thank you to Quarto Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book is just like its cover: colorful, fun, intuitive, sprinkled with all the information a beginner needs in his or her tarot journey.

I kept my one star close because this book is designed with the author's tarot deck in mind, it has the same style, the same illustrations so if you are working with other decks you will have to have yours close in order to internalize the whole knowledge, this is only set back as a standalone book, in my opinion.

Getting over this fact, I liked that the drawings were inclusive and that they supported very well all the writing. It covers a bit about tarot itself, and then dives into the meaning of each card, with a bit of astrology and numerology in between.

I learned new things reading this book, I believe it's a fantastic gift for young people interested in the tarot without the gravity that other decks and books bring.

I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest opinion.

Great for a beginner tarot enthusiast, not so much for someone who has been reading the cards for a few years. This was just a basic tarot guide and was laid out pretty great for a complete beginner. It told the correspondences for the different suits and discussed the overall theme for each number within the suit. There were basic tarot spreads and general tips for making your own spreads. Finally, this book includes a guide with a picture of each card along with the upright and reversed meanings. Unfortunately, as someone familiar with the cards, I didn't really learn anything reading this.

I've read a few of Cassie Uhl's books before, and she can do no wrong. This book is just as perfect as her others.
I'm not too knowledgeable on the tarot, so this book was perfect for me. It was easy to understand, and I loved the different sections. I had no idea that different tarot cards belonged to different elements for example.
Like all of Uhl's other books, the illustrations in this book are stunning! They really add so much to the book.
Loved this!!

This is a fabulous book that gives easy, yet informative, guidance on the Tarot cards. Very easy to follow and to understand so great for beginners but also a lovely reference book for anyone using the Tarot cards. Beautiful illustrations and modern descriptions for the cards make this a big hit for me!

Highly recommended and a great little gift idea.

This book takes an empathetic approach and gives bite size approaches and allows you to have kindness and patience with yourself when dealing with life. This is so necessary for everyone to read in life. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
