A town is filled with murderous thoughts brought on by the changing of seasons. As the protagonist deals with the fact that the guy she likes is experiencing these feelings, she is also unraveling the truth behind her mother's murder. I enjoyed the book since it had a unique setting.

Thank you #TheViolentSeason #NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me the opportunity to read this.

The Violent season was not the book I expected it to be, and not necessarily in a good way.
Initially I was intrigued by the "mysterious illness" that supposedly befalls local teenagers in November.
Sounds great, I am in!
But then.... when I expected horror, with gothic, supernatural elements, nothing comes of this story line, and it essentially gets abandoned halfway through the book. I felt like I was lead to believe I'd be reading the type of novel featuring elements of magic realism and supernatural occurrences, but in the end it was just your run off the mill domestic abuse, rape, suicide, murder type of story we have all read countless times before.
It just didn't work for me, mostly because I felt misled by the synopsis.
On the plus side, the author is a very talented writer. She did a great job setting the mood and dealing with some pretty heavy subject matter in an engaging way. I enjoyed the style, just not the premise of the story.
I read/listened to the ebook as well as the audio version, and must say I really enjoyed the narration.

I could not get into this book at all. I did not like the way the violent season was explained, it felt lack luster and under developed. This book is hard to even remember what happened though I read it a week ago. I just remember that most people are terrible no matter what.

it was a solid 3 star read. I enjoyed the concept and although i had an idea who was at fault i liked how it came about. Although i would have liked if they talked about the sickness more. i felt like we didnt really get enough closure out of the book and it didnt seem to be set up for there to be a second book

I really liked this book. It was a perfect type of novel for halloween. I love the horror theme of the book and the underline area of abuse found in the novel was well written. The author's writing was really well done and I am really excited to see what this author has coming next.

This is more of a teen character study than an actual horror/thriller. Most of the "shocking" parts and deaths have already happened and so we hear about them from the characters' perspectives. For most of the book, Wyatt is trying to figure out or she's wondering about what happened with two different deaths.

I didn't guess the mystery but I wasn't surprised by it either which is why I'm rating it 3 stars. If I was shocked or if more crazy stuff happened, I'd probably rate it a 4. It's a good spooky read but not great or groundbreaking.

The narration was not very engaging. It made the listening experience less interesting. Finished 25% of the books and couldn't continue. Maybe I wasn't in the mod for the genre either.

A small town where every November its citizens are overcome with rage and violence that someone always ends up dead? Sold. We start with Wyatt who is dealing with the sudden death of her mother which starts her obsession in the sickness surrounding her home town. By her side is Cash who is the bad boy she is joined at the hip with. Right of the bat you notice how toxic their relationship is so when Wyatt gets partnered up with Porter, Cash's enemy, she gets that outside perspective and has to come to terms with her dark reality. I liked how the author did interludes about the past crimes that had taken place and not just Wyatt's mom. I was really wrapped up in the mystery and invested in our characters. Definitely worth a read.

The Violent Season was an intriguing book about a town "sickness"... or was it a murderer from outside? Are there truly evil people out there, or is it something we all have buried deep down inside of us.

Wyatt is a high schooler who's struggling to find herself after her mom was brutally murdered. She's convinced that her town is sick with some unknown evil because every November, someone dies. We follow her on the journey to discover herself as well as what truly happened to her mom the day she died.

This is wholeheartedly a YA book. It's very angsty and filled with teen drama. The number of times our main character thought she was different and cool and edgy because she's all "curse words and cigarettes'" had me begging to DNF the book for so many reasons. Number 1, sweetie, you're not cool because you're a high schooler with a nicotine addiction. Number 2, you're not cool for thinking your SO different from everyone ese, that you purposeful alienate yourself from society. Amen to Porter for coming to the rescue.

I liked the general mystery of this book, but my issue is that we spent more time dealing with teen drama than actually working to discover anything about the mystery. We get a little taste of clues here and there, but nothing actually comes to happen that changes the game until the last like 15% of the book. It was a super easy and quick read, but most of the time I was wanting to go searching or clues. We never got to. the ending was good though, I will give it that. However, I think the book overall spent way too much time glorifying the wrong things.

I want to give this book 2 stars, but I understand that it's super YA and I'm super 24 years old. So I'll give it a little grace because I know this book has an audience and I'll round it up to 3/5 stars because I do like our side characters a lot, as well as the turn of events that took place. I was invested in what was happening, and I finished it in a day. I think it's pretty solid for what it is. Also, I highly recommend going the audiobook route with this one; the narrator was great!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an advanced audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is not fantasy - it's mystery/crime (the synopsis doesn't make this clear enough).

This is a story about a girl swept up in a toxic relationship in a small town where people keep dying. It's not so much about the murders and suicides themselves so much as it's all about toxic relationships and self worth.

This book does a great job setting up the toxic relationship, but I felt like our MC got out of it oddly quickly and easily considering their long history together. The first half of the book was largely setting up how enthralled the MC was with this guy, but then she seems to snap out of it pretty easily considering.
While the characters were all pretty type-casted, it was a still a decent story with some thrilling and creepy enough scenes.

This book was very okay. The premise is somewhat interesting - Wyatt, our main character, is still hurting from her mother's brutal murder last year, when she came home to find her dead upstairs. She's been drowning her sorrows in weed and obsession with Cash, her best friend who's similarly troubled by finding his mother dead by suicide in their bathtub. Wyatt is convinced that there's a sickness in their small town of Wolf Ridge, a sickness that brings out the darkest side of all of its residents in the month of November. She's seen murders, car accidents, violent rages, and so much more come out during this 30-day period, but no one seems to believe her, everyone dismissing her as naive and grieving.

After her English teacher makes her partner with Cash's sworn enemy, Porter Dawes, for a class project, Wyatt starts to see the good side of Porter and the bad side of Cash. The mystery at hand remains: Who killed Wyatt's mom? And is there really a violent season in Wolf Ridge?

The general atmosphere of this book is a bit creepy and cold, a great story to read in these chilly almost-November days. But I found the plot to be extremely lacking. Not only was it extremely predictable, but even when writing this review, I found it difficult to articulate what actually happens. There are a lot of conversations and even more teenage angst (think: no one in the world gets me, I can't wait to escape from this podunk town, etc.). Overall, not a bad "spooky season" read, but there are lots of other thrillers out there to get you in the Halloween spirit. Thank you to Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC via Netgalley!

Unfortunately I'm going to have to pick up the physical copy because I'm having a very hard time getting past the narrator's voice it's breathy and slow and even though you can pick up the pace. I seem to not get past the way her voice is I'm sorry

Great narration of a troubling story on a toxic relationship. I felt the narrator delivered an excellent emotional spoken account of the story told.

This audiobook is fantastic! The narrator does a great job with the dark content in this book. This book is being marketed as a mystery/thriller, but I think it's more of a hard-hitting contemporary. Walters takes a common topic and approaches it in a fresh way that I loved. This book is perfect for fans of Courtney Summers and Tiffany D Jackson..

When I read the description on netgalley I got so interested in it sounded so different.
I like there’s an acknowledgment of devious relationship before the book about again.

Which is really really need to see. But also this just felt very cliché and boring honestly

Yes boring

What town legend is underutilized in my opinion

I don’t know maybe the narration was a problem
There was nothing wrong with it I just didn’t like it

Family I’m gonna have to get this book to start

As always thank you NetGalley is in a year so if you copy

3.5 stars

Wyatt lives in a small town where every November, horrible things happen. Suicides, murders, and deadly accidents are common occurrences. After Wyatt's mom was killed last year, she starts to believe in the so called 'sickness' and tries to get the story out to the world. Meanwhile, her best friend and crush Cash is pulling away from her, but a new guy seems to be interested. Wyatt is trying to deal with everything at once, but she's struggling to get through November intact.

When so many tragedies happen in a short period of time, it can be easy to blame an outside force. Is there really something wrong in the town or just a chain reaction of violence? It was easy to fall into the story and the real mystery is who Wyatt can trust and what really happened to her mom. There are pieces of Wyatt's memory missing and the police have no real leads. Could someone Wyatt knows have committed the murder?

I thought the romance between Wyatt and Parker was pretty cute and was happy to see her move on from Cash. There were also a couple twists I didn't see coming and it was nice to be surprised. This is a good horror book to read during the spooky season and the audiobook is well narrated.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the copy

This suspense/mystery young adult read, was dark and atmospheric, a good seasonal read. The Violent Season takes place in a small Vermont town, Wolf Ridge, in November. Wyatt Green’s mom was stabbed to death in their home the previous November, and she is grieving the loss. She is very close with a bad boy, Cash, and loses herself in their undefined relationship. She is a broken person, and as the narrator of the story, the reader really feels her pain at times.

But life goes on. She has school, with schoolwork and homework and group projects. She’s assigned to work on a Great Gatsby project with Porter, Cash’s nemesis. She begins to drop her guard with Porter, and they work hard at their group project, planning a Gatsby-themed bash at a farm outside of town. She needs to figure out how she feels about Cash and how she feels about Porter and what happened to her mom most of all.

I liked the narrator, Jorjeana Marie. I would definitely listen to her narrate another audiobook in the future. She had the right tone for the tone of the book and gave inflection and personality to the various characters of the book. I thought the dialogue was entertaining, however, the plot and storyline were definitely less than realistic. The characters didn’t really seem to grow and change over the course of the book. I wanted to see more growth in Wyatt for sure. This audiobook was creepy but predictable. It was a good read but nothing earth-shattering or soul-soothing. Overall, I would recommend it if I could recommend a list to someone who is looking for a thriller. If I could only recommend one audiobook, it would not be this one.

Bad things happen during November in the town of Wolf Ridge. Wyatt Green thinks its a sickness that only surfaces once a year. She blames this sickness for the death of her mother. Wyatt wants to prove her theory, gathering every macabre detail she can, comparing stories of death.
The town won't talk about it. Wyatt needs to. She will do anything to prove her mothers death wasn't a suicide...it was murder.

I went into this book thinking it was going to be about a town full of psycho murderers that are allowed to unleash their desires for blood, during one month. But that was not the case. The story is about a troubled young lady in an unhealthy relationship.
The book sheds light on teen abusive relationships. Abuse doesn't just happen to housewives, it happens to teen girls all the time. These girls want so badly to be loved, they can idolize their partner and see the stars sparkle even in the darkness. Wyatt sees those stars in Cash's eyes. Its hard to read, but well written to the point that I was very upset about the whole situation.
The Violent Season was suspensful, harsh, and raw. As an audiobook, the narrator was on point. You could feel Wyatt need, her despair. It also helped me hate Cash that much more.

I really enjoyed this book. I was stunned by the outcome and was really shocked at finding out what really happened.

I liked the characters, I would say it is a very solid young adult novel about abuse.
