I tried reading this one, but I couldn’t get into it. I didn’t realize it was young adult. I also felt like the story was too typical and didn’t care for the main character wanting to get into Juilliard.

I really liked this book. I don't know much about Indian culture, but I feel like I learned a lot from reading this book. Learning about culture is really fun to me, and this book explored a lot of Indian cultures. Many parts of this book had me in shock, and visibly laughing out loud. The main character was very relatable, and I really understood the college struggle they were going through. Some parts of the book were a little confusing, but overall it was a great book!

My Sister's Big Fat Indian Wedding narrates the story of Zuri and Naveen. Zuri's sister's wedding is happening and Naveen who is the groom's cousin has come from South Africa to attend the wedding . Zuri's parents wants her to become a doctor or a lawyer like her sisters , while she has applied to a bunch of music colleges. While going to one of those auditions , She meets Naveen who is also participating in that competition.

I loved the characters Naveen and Zuri and how their relationship evolved . The author portrayed Indian culture beautifully throughout the book .It had the perfect ratio of chaos, friendship, love and family . I cannot not talk about the cover . It is so gorgeous . The only reason that I give 4 stars is because of the ending . The way it ended so abruptly slightly irritated me . Other than that it was perfect .

I would surely recommend for light fun read .

This book was all that I would've wanted out of a title like "My Sister's Big Fat Indian Wedding"! There was so many shenanigans, so many funny moments and an incredible cast of characters. I sincerely appreciated how the MC was trying to go for her dreams but also try to remain present for her family. I flew through this book because I was so entertained by it and it played out like a movie in my mind. I really wished that there were depictions because all the outfits sounded so amazing...I can only hope there would be some sort of movie adaptation so I can see all that I imagined!

This is such a fun book. I loved seeing her family's customs and how they mixed the Indian, Trinidadian, and American wedding traditions to create the perfect wedding for her sister. It was also wonderful seeing how close her family was despite some disagreements. I particularly loved how her cousins all conspired to help her get to the music competition. The romance was funny and sweet, it was nice that while it was an important part of the story Zuri also wasn't going to let it distract her from the wedding or her music dreams, Zuri is a great character, her strengths are well written especially her pride in her heritage and her appearance. Seeing her stand up against western beauty standards and trying to educate her family was well written. All around this was a well written book.

Let me tell you all a little fact about me 😂

Over the past few years, when cousin weddings in my family would roll around - I became just a tiny bit obsessive 😂🙊

So when I heard about My Sisters Big Fat Indian Wedding, I could barely contain my excitement (Family Weddings are my very favourite😂)

Sajini Patel perfectly captured the essence of what wedding season is like in a brown family!! I could not believe how many scenes in this book felt like a warm hug 🥺 Reading about the Damani Family & their wedding antics was its own kind of magic ✨

I notoriously became known in my family as the cousin with the wedding countdowns, so seeing that each chapter of this book opened with a countdown to the wedding made my heart quite literally burst with happiness 😂💖

Did I mention that the main love interest is from SOUTH AFRICA😱
I am not ashamed to say I squealed every time Durban / KZN was mentioned 😂

I could go on forever telling you how much I love Sajni Patel & and her work, but I'll save you all the drama, and just say :

Please. Read. This. Book.

Between the swoon worthy romance & the desi family shenanigans, I for one can not pick my favourite part of this story!

My Sisters Big Fat Indian Wedding releases, April 19th🥳 I hope you all love this book as much as I did!

This book was truly a delight! I loved seeing the traditions and intricacies of a large Indian wedding while also having the balance of our main character trying to find her place in her family. The chemistry between Naveen and Zuri was unmistakable and I could very easily see a second book following this one that goes through their time together potentially at college, I would definitely be interested in a sequel, or even just something else within the family, potentially the youngest sister? I definitely plan on recommending this title for purchase in my library and when doing readers advisory!

This book cover is AMAZING! This was such a cute story. The main character kind of reminded me of Never Have I Ever’s Devi. I really enjoy Patel’s previous work and this one was just the same. You can expect great writing, culture, traditions and great female main character.

Thank you NetGalley and Amulet Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was very entertaining and I loved the characters, the plot, and all of the cultural aspects incorporated into it. It really immerses you into Indian culture. Being originally from Georgia myself, I also love when books are set in Georgia and include references to Georgia things. The love story between Naveen and Zuri was also really sweet, and it, mixed with the family dynamics made this read enjoyable.

My only criticisms really are that I do not like when books use slang in them. I do not love things like "bestie" in books. I am not sure why but this always turns me off books. I was able to power through for this one, but I definitely considered it.

This book was extremely cute. I think there are a lot of readers that will enjoy this book, especially since it does such a great job of depicting all of the events surrounding an Indian wedding. The romance aspect was just enough for a YA novel. I also liked that Patel was writing for an audience that was already aware of some of the cultural customs as opposed to a traditional colonist viewpoint of describing everything for an unaware reader.

this was cute and charming. It definitely felt YA at times, but I am firmly in the camp that Sajni can do no wrong!

This had all of the vibrantly culture you expect in a Sajni Patel book and although it felt young to me at times, I enjoyed it!

'My Sister's Big Fat Indian Wedding' is a coming of age story with the backdrop of an Indian wedding celebration. It's very fun, emotional in just the right parts, and with the added bonus of a music competition! I loved Zuri's family and the wedding guests, they were so sweet and funny and crazy in the way only families can be. The romance was sweet and I liked how the story wrapped up. The cover is also so incredibly gorgeous!

This is a great book for the right audience. Perfect for YA readers. I had a hard time connecting with the book but it was cute. I had high hopes for this book and I was excited to reading more about desi culture. This book took me a really long time to read.

I came for the culture and stayed for the cute romance! Zuri isn't keen on following in her sister's footsteps, she is a talented violinist and she has dreams of making it in the music world, not being a lawyer. Try to tell that to her Indian family though. They are not having it.
It's the week of her sister's wedding and even though she has so much to do, she needs to get to an audition for a scholarship to a school she is dying to go to. So, somehow between all the fittings and baking and primping, she will find a way to sneak out and chase her dream.
Naveen is the groom's cousin and the aunties have it in their minds that the two of them are meant to be. Naveen is hiding a secret of his own, he is going to the auditions too. He is a talented vocalist and now he is Zuri's competition. The two of them try to navigate family and each other for the week leading up to the wedding and Zuri tries not to fall for Naveen since he will be leaving in a few short days.
I loved learning about the culture and all the preparations and what goes on before a big Indian wedding. I love learning about traditions and the days leading up to the big wedding. I loved the family aspect and learning a little more about expectations that are placed on kids and how it is hard for them to not just fall into doing what is expected of them. I only wished there was a little more of an ending for Naveen and Zuri. I hope there is another book about their journey.
Thank you to Netgalley, Amulet and Sajni Patel for an early copy.

I was hoping to love this book but there were so many things that just didn’t add up to me. Not to mention I didn’t really like any of the characters. I didn’t feel attached to them because I barely knew anything about them. It felt too fast paced and too much telling and not enough showing. It just wasn’t my favorite. I loved the idea of the wedding though. I thought that was super beautiful and interesting.

pretty cute! the parts i enjoyed most were the descriptions of the wedding and the way indian culture was part of the book, and some of the familial relationships. however, i didn't really like the writing style, and some of the dialogue was a little too cheesy even for me.

Thank you ABRAMS Kids for approving my NG request! The title of this book tells it all; I love the production of beautifully choreographed & tradition-steeped Indian weddings. Zurika, who may not always appreciate the tradition, loves & respects her family, even when their hopes for her do not align with her own goals. Zuri wants to become a professional violinist, but that is not an acceptable, profitable career in the eyes of her family. Although Zurika does not have the courage to stand up to her family in regards to her dreams, she takes the risk to duck out of two events of her sister’s big fat wedding in order to compete for a music scholarship. Little does she know, someone else close to the wedding is on her tail…as competition!

Naveen Patel is cousin to the groom & Zuri’s biggest competitor! But, is he also competing for her heart? Zurika & Naveen’s near enemies-to-lovers meet-cute is adorable & endearing. These two characters are gently revealed to the reader, especially with Zuri’s inner dialogue & conflict over passion vs responsibility. When Naveen divulges his own fears & insecurities to her, it’s easy to see Zuri struggle with her determination not to be set-up by her family.

This book is also a dynamic story about the struggle between responsibility & passion & family vs self. There were times when I was envious of Zuri’s family helping to plan her future. But, I deeply related with following one’s dreams at the risk of one’s future prosperity. One scene that spoke to me was when Zuri was in the middle of a performance & thinking about the possibility of failure while also knowing in her bones that she couldn’t live without making music. The only part of the story that didn’t make sense was right after that scene, when she woke the next morning, she said she needed to take a break from pursuing music.

In the end, the message from My Sister’s Big Fat Indian Wedding is that even if something is your passion, you have to work hard, & keep working hard, to attain your goals.

This book was 100% a 5 star read! I’d really like to see what happens next, not only with Zurika & Naveen, but maybe Zuri’s kid sister Neha? I’d also love to know more about Zuri’s best friend/cousin Krish’s story & see where she lands! Basically, Sajni Patel is a new must-read author for me!

I'm throwing roses, brava.

Like, I'm an Aquarius stellium who's basically allergic to romance but, My Sister's Big Fat Indian Wedding beautifully walked that line of realistic and dreamy and made me want to find a love worth dueting in front of my family for.

A fun and witty rom com that explores love, family, and dysfunction. Overall a cute and engaging read. Good character development and pacing, the story was relatable and the characters were easy to identify with.

This book explores the importance of family and your dreams. What do you do when they conflict? Zuri has to make the hard choices. As the reader, you feel Zuri's pain as she faces the challenges of putting her dreams or family first.
