Elodie Fray wants to be more like her perfect sister, Ada, the one her parents are actually proud of. When she decided to quit her job and pursue her dream of becoming an author, she thought it would be her time to shine, but a year on nothing has happened. And she's getting desperate. When Elodie makes one small mistake on a drunken night with a friend, things quickly spiral and suddenly everyone believes she has a book deal.
Fabulous book by a fabulous author!
Definitely recommend this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An absolutely thrilling ride from start to finish. Smith creates characters with such depth and deception, you won’t hold the same opinions of them throughout. You think you love someone then you’re betrayed, but you can’t stop reading.
Absolutely stunning novel.

This was a pretty good read, though it rambled a bit at times. It centers primarily on Elodie, who is abducted after telling her family and friends she got a book deal that she didn’t really get. You also get chapters told from the POV of Elodie’s sister Ava, who becalmed a much bigger part of the story as time goes on.

Both main characters were relatable, making very human mistakes and having to face the consequences. I connected more with Ava than Elodie but could empathize with both. There was one odd thing— what felt to me like a big focus on a side story around whether it’s ok for women to not want to be mothers, and I did find that entire plotline unnecessary; I felt a bit like I was being preached at.

Though I did figure out the twist early, it was still well done and there were surprises to be found even after I got the gist of that was happening. The book ran a bit longer than it needed to (in my opinion) but there were many tense and fast paced areas throughout.

Overall, decent book- not my favorite but pretty good overall, with relatable characters and a good ending. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

One Small Mistake is a dark tale of obsession, manipulation, and the complexities of family relationships. The plot isn’t entirely original, Elodie is being stalked. She makes one small mistake, a mistake that sets in motion a chain of events. It’s then the plot takes a more sinister turn that’s refreshingly original. At times the plot feels farfetched, but that’s the beauty of fiction, the ability to stretch one’s imagination. Told from the alternating perspectives of Elodie and her sister Ada, the reader gains an intriguing insight into their family dynamics.

I really enjoy a story which has flawed characters, it makes the read far more credible. I found the sisters fascinating, but I found Ada was the more interesting of the two sisters, with her ‘perfect’ life. It’s only as the author digs deeper into her life you realise that nothings as it first seems. It was fascinating to read how the sister’s relationship was manipulated, which created a divide that was driven by rivalry and jealousy.

Dandy Smith has written a taut, tension filled read that begs the question how far you would go to fulfil your dream and live up to your perfect sister? The plot takes an unexpected twist that creates tension and makes for a nail biting read in places. A darkly absorbing read that I throughly I enjoyed.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was fresh, it was extremely well-written and the story kept me on the edge of my seat throughout! The characters were so brilliantly drawn that even as I began to guess how it might play out, it didn't matter, I was invested in the story and them as people and needed the conclusion!

A thrill ride of a read! Highly recommended!

I'm torn. One Small Mistake is wildly implausible on multiple fronts, and the shape of the story is quite obvious from early on, but the writing is great, the emotion is lovely, and overall it's pretty damn satisfying, so I think I love it?

I particularly love that the book is told from two perspectives, Elodie and her sister Ada, and unlike many such domestic thrillers you get to see the machinations as they happen. Imagine Gone Girl with Amy's diary spliced into Nick's story, so you can see just how the strings are pulled as you go along. Perhaps this sacrifices a big pay off moment, but personally I really liked having the manipulation drip-fed throughout the novel.

The big beats of the story are quite unsubtle, but the relationship between the two sisters (and, to some degree, their parents) is beautifully complicated and moving. Overall, this has a lot going for it.

My thanks to Embla Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

The overall premise of this book didn't seem terribly original to me but the direction the author took it in was just awesome! It was one of those books that had me forgetting I'd put dinner in the oven and pulling out my kindle even just in the que at the supermarket so I could get a few more pages in. It totally had had me hooked and was really well written. The characters have depth and complexities and you do care and actually want to know what happens next. Really chuffed with it and would recommend

Elodie Fray wants to be an author. She quits her corporate job in order to pursue her dream. Unfortunately, nothing has worked out so far and she is now stuck working at a coffee shop. Elodie wants her family to be proud of her like they are of her older sister, Ada, who is married and lives in an amazing house. After a night of drinking with a friend, lies are told and her family thinks she has a book deal and they have a big celebration for her. She has no idea how she will get herself out of this one mistake. Everything takes a turn when Elodie is abducted from her home one night. The police think they know took her but it may be someone closer to her than anyone knew. Will Elodie be found?

This book was fantastic! The plot was something completely different and went in a direction I didn't expect. Even though the twists were pretty wild, the author captivated my attention and it was hard to put down. This achieved a perfect balance between a shocking, interesting plot and a believable, immersive story. I can easily recommend ONE SMALL MISTAKE as a unique thriller you won’t soon forget.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Embla books for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I received an early copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. Thank you. I enjoyed this story. It is an I interesting story that kept me reading to see how it all played out in the end. The alternating viewpoints were a great way to fill in the storyline from the sister’s viewpoint. This was an enjoyable read.

It was ok. It wasn’t great. It wasn’t atrocious. It was just meh. Found myself more interested in getting to the end than the characters or the narrative definitely not the best ebook Thriller out there

This book sounded great from the premise and it didnt disappoint me, I was gripped straight from the get go and I couldnt put it down. The plot was everything and I loved it, the characters were well developed and it was an overall enjoyable read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the storyline was intriguing, I figured out what would happen quite quickly, but this did not spoil my enjoyment of the book.

The characters where so complex and interesting in their own rights, Ada was my favourite tho and I’m glad we got to experience what was happening from her point of view.

The writing was so detailed that you could fully imagine Elodie’s surroundings, even though I had little sympathy for her.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

The plot of this novel, which was basically the lengths Elodie is prepared to go to get a book deal, was initially barely believable and then strayed into completely crazy territory.

SPOILERS

I fail to believe Elodie couldn't have escaped from Wisteria during the period she was merely locked in - it's a cottage in Cornwall - break a window for heaven's sake! I found the characters inconsistent in their behaviour, and the author returned time and again to the question of whether it was OK for a woman not to want to become a mother, which had nothing to do with the main storyline.

This really wasn't for me, but the plot mostly held together and the chapters from Ada's perspective added a second dimension. I can see that others would enjoy it more.

I knew within the first chapter that being able to put this down was going to be difficult

Elodie is desperate for a book deal. Shes quit her job to concentrate on becoming a writer. The first part of the book follows Elodie and her life. Her friend Jack has always been there for her so when she makes one small mistake he is determined to fix things and makes it right.

Her family and friends all seemed to have the most perfect lives. Great domino effect I enjoyed seeing the flawed characters show their true colours. I loved how it was written from her sister’s point of view, as if she was writing a book, you got to see what she was really thinking.

I really enjoyed this book.
