I've heard great things about the Dead Rabbit Bar, so I was not surprised at how much I enjoyed "Paddy Drinks".

I'm usually more of a beer drinker than anything else, but my husband loves whiskey and I thought there would be some good cocktails in this cookbook. I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I realized the first 1/3 of the book is learning about the bar, the whiskey, and cocktail making. As someone who knows very little about the art of whiskey I really appreciated the opportunity to learn about what I would be making before I actually made it.

While I have yet to make all of the recipes, I'm very excited to keep trying new things. There are definitely some recipes that are far too advanced for me at the moment, but I'm sure I will get there one day.

I will definitely be recommending this book for Father's Day and the winter holidays.

Enjoy your drinks!

The beginning of Paddy Drinks is an “everything you need to know about whiskey” immersive guide. You know a ‘cookbook’ author has a deep passion and knowledge of their topic when it takes over 80 pages to get to the recipes. However, once we got to the drinks, they did not disappoint! Each recipe included the tools and glassware that you would need to make the recipe and the techniques that would be used. The pictures were beautiful but weren’t overly posed and made sure to stick to the simple, and classic wooden style of Irish pubs. The recipes were expansive and I really loved how they included descriptors of the taste and aroma of each cocktail. I’m very anxious to begin making and tasting these babies!!! My only complaint is that, since most of the drinks included in Paddy Drinks were created by the authors, it’s highly unlikely that I’ll be able to order many of them at the local dives!

To say the 3 authors are obsessed with Irish Whisky would be an understatement. You can absolutely tell they love what they do and they love talking about it. This isn’t your typical drinks guide book. Yes there’s wonderfully complex Irish Whisky cocktails but there’s so so much more. They discuss the history behind the Irish pubs and explain all the ingredients.

This isn’t one of those recipe books where they tell you you can make substitutions & it will be okay. No, the authors tell you exactly what you need and how much (or how to make what you need) to make the perfect drinks.

Very interesting even if you aren’t an Irish Whiskey drinker (yet).

I have always wanted to learn more about Whiskey and I am really glad I got to read this book. My favorite bar I go to here where I live is both a whiskey and craft beer bar. Now I can go in there and know what they are talking about. Another thing I loved about this book is that they had other recipes in there other than the cocktails. They had the recipes for the syrup and others that they used in the cocktails.

Thank you Netgalley and Mariner Books for letting me read and review this book.
