Wowee, what a read!! I have not read the other books in this series so will definitely be reading these. Believable characters and a gripping read!

I felt this book, the 5th in a crime series but a stand-alone read didn’t reveal itself quick enough for me, I almost didn’t carry on but once the storyline kicked in I quickly got the gist of it. It was a bit unrealistic for me tho without revealing spoilers about this nurses past traumatic event, but to loose her family because of a historic event was dramatic but tragically unfair Read it yourself if you like crime dramas and detective series.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a fantastic thriller that kept me hooked from page one. I love O'Brien's writings and this may be her best one yet, although i say that about all of them. There was so many plot twists and turns it kept me gripped right to the end.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this book.

I felt the writing was done well in this book but there was just something missing for me and I couldn't get into it and enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.

A nurse Hannah arrives home after a weekend away with a work colleague Millie and finds her son Hunter missing and her fiance Ian (a policeman) dead in the car in the garage. It looks as if Hannah is getting the blame because the higher ups in the police force are wanting her charged and say she could hve left the spa where they were staying, come home on her motorbike, killed Ian and returned to the spa. Hunter's body is found under plastic sacks on the compost heap, again leading to accusations of Hannah coming home, finding Hunter dead and killing Ian. D.I Gaby Dorin refuses to accept this theory and with the help of pathologist Rusty carries on investigating with surprising results.

Yet another great instalment from this author.
As this series progresses you really have a feel for all the regular characters, where they work and their interactions together.
As they work on this new case you are pulled in to more twists, turns and cliffhangers.
Well written, this book keeps you on edge and makes you want to keep reading late into the night!
Can’t wait for the next book in this series!!

When Hannah returns from a weekend away, she finds her fiancé dead and her son missing. The police can find no clues, and the only suspect is Hannah herself. When a second body is discovered, which changes the focus of the enquiry, Hannah’s past comes under scrutiny. Does she know more about the reasons behind the killing than she’s letting on?

I enjoyed Buried Lies. Hannah is quite an easy character to sympathise with, and DI Gaby Darin is a competent, reliable officer to discover the truth. I’m not sure I totally understood all the ins and outs that the plot took in reaching its conclusion, but it’s a gripping story that kept me entertained.

Gaby Darin, newly appointed Detective Inspector, investigates the death of a colleague. Hannah Thomas has lost so much already and is about to lose a whole lot more. But is this grieving woman hiding something?

I steamed through this in an afternoon, and was gripped. I want to read more that includes DI Gaby Darin, I liked this so much. But, a few bits and pieces irritated and I'll note them here, but please do read the book.

Get past the first chapter and you will be on the swift and fast-paced investigation with Gaby Darin. But in all honesty, the first chapter feels much like 'chick lit' and I almost didn't carry on reading (hence the four stars). Not that I dislike 'chick lit', but when faced with a detective novel, that's not what I want. However, you begin the investigation alongside DI Darin, and start amassing evidence yourself as you read. You will want to know the answers too!

Cliffhangers have their place, but for this reviewer they get tiresome at the end of every chapter. Check your protocols when writing about different professions - assume nothing, research everything. Most of all - Vegans don't eat cheese!

Still, that's all that I found detrimental. The narrative is interesting, once you've got to the end, the beginning chapter makes more sense. It is fast-paced, intriguing and actually a good read.

I didn't realise this book was part of a series and although it can be read as a stand alone - it does make reference to past cases and personal history of the main Detective Gaby and her team.

Hannah Thomas is a nurse and returns home to find her son missing and her fiancé dead in his car, apparently by suicide. Gaby is not convinced but her team struggle to get a break in solving the case.

Gaby is convinced the case was personal against Hannah, but Hannah's background history is so lacking in information that they can't find anything that cause somebody to kill her family.

The story was told by the perspective of the characters and it was difficult to build a connection with them, may be this would be easier with Gaby if you read the earlier books.

A good read though

Part of a series featuring DI Gaby Darin and her team. Slow burner full of twists and turns, all comes together by the end. A good read.

Thank you NetGalley and HQ, HQ Digital for the copy of Buried Lies. Sadly, this book was not for me. If I had known it was part of a series it might have helped understand why the characters didn’t feel very well-drawn to me. Not having any backstory on Gaby or her team put me off and I never connected to the other characters either. The story was good, and the ending was a surprise but other than that, this book was disappointing to me.

Hannah, a nurse with a young child, returns from an overnight stay to find her son missing, and her boyfriend dead in his car, having overdosed on carbon monoxide.

The police are called, and Gaby, the detective in charge, is not convinced that the death is a suicide.

The book is written from differing perspectives, which usually puts me off, but once it gets started, the tension mounts and Gaby has her work cut out to piece together what has happened.

Gripping and intense the book gets more compelling as the characters reveal themselves.

An enjoyable read for police procedural and detective story fans.

This is the fifth Gaby Darin book and they get better and better. The team are all present and correct and the back story of Amy's forthcoming wedding adds a nice sense of normality to a case which is a anything but! This was a good addition to this series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Seen from multiple points of view everything gradually falls into place leaving a very satisfying cliffhanger ready for book six.

This book was an enthralling read. This was the first Gaby Darin mystery I've read, and I look forward to reading more. I was constantly guessing the identity of the killer while reading the book. The book's characters were well drawn, and the plot was riveting. I highly recommend this book to other mystery readers.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ Stories for the ARC of this book.
Absolutely loved this book and the characters in it. Felt so sorry for Hannah when she lost both her fiancé and her son at the same time. Amazing twist, did not see it coming at all. Hope she gets the new life she deserves more than anything.
Will certainly be looking for more books by this author.

I found the storyline took a long time to reveal itself in this book. And then I felt it ended abruptly. Not for me I’m afraid.

Many thanks to netgalley and Jenny O’Brien for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I really don't like giving negative reviews, but this book was not good. At best, it was 'ok'.
The key elements felt half-baked, most notably the characters. The outcome was predictable while also being unrealistic. Maybe I would feel differently if I read the others in the series, but it was a struggle to get through.
Not for me!
