I’m not sure why it took me so long to read this book, now I’m sorry I didn’t get to it sooner! I love a good STEM book and this one is great!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.

I want to thank everyone for this copy of Elementary Romanic Calculus by Susannah Nix.

At first, I didn't realize that this was apart of a book series, and it is pretty far into the book series at that. I didn't think it would matter too much about the other couples. Initially I was really excited about this book, but I just think it didn't really get there for me. I couldn't really get into the characters and their relationships.

I love a good STEM romance and this one delivered. I loved the development between the characters and how their romance played out. I thought the MFC was a super strong female lead and I loved that. I will definitely read more by this author!

I was hoping to like this title a bit more, based on reviews of the rest of the series and the representation of a woman in STEM. But ultimately the female main character was a huge turnoff for me. She was very entitled, and I expected her to have much more growth through the story. Where she landed was ultimately lukewarm for me. With the two MCs, it felt like they were way too far on the spectrum of opposites attract, so even though they end up together I wasn't impressed by either's growth in the process.

I love that Susannah Nix writes such smart women who are in the STEM field! This entire series is good.

Mia is smart, talented, and sweet! She has great character growth in this book as she learns to love her life in a small time and finds out what us truly important for her future. Josh is super sweet and I loved how supportive he was.

Sadly I didn't feel any chemistry between these leads and they had only casual interactions with each other before suddenly starting a romantic relationship. They seemed more like good friends than romantic partners to me.

I loved the cast of side characters in this small town! This book was good, but not sizzling with chemistry.

I received a gifted copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
For most contemporary romances I read I still treat them as unrealistic and a bit of fantasy, however this book seemed real to me and grounded in reality with real world problems and relationships. This book took me by surprise and I really enjoyed it!

Our heroine is a big city girl but moves to small town Texas when she receives a teaching posting at the local university. Settling in to small town life becomes easier when she makes friends and becomes friends (and then more) with a local owner of a goat farm. Her teaching job however is only contracted for 1 year and she will need to decide what to do at the end of that year.

The only thing that disappointed me in this book was that it was fade to black, but fade to black after more detailed foreplay so I just wasn’t expecting it. Overall though, I loved the main characters and the total realness of their relationship- the realness of their issues as well as how they dealt with their relationship. I definitely want to read more in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

'Elementary Romantic Calculus' is the sixth novel in Susannah Nix's Chemistry Lessons series of standalone contemporary romances each featuring a female protagonist working in STEM. In this book, Mia is a mathematician who begrudgingly takes up the position of visiting professor at an unknown university in rural Texas, where she meets handsome goat farmer, Josh.

I found this book just okay. The romance was sweet, as were all of the characters, but I didn't feel there was anything truly original in this classic 'big-city-girl moves to the country and falls in love with local boy and small-town living' story.

The fact that the main character is a woman in STEM didn't really add much to the story, I felt. While some of her feelings of imposter syndrome were relatable, it was clear that her achievements were great and therefore didn't fully feel warranted. The mathematics that was mentioned all came out in info-dumps that didn't make it accessible to me. I also got tired of Mia's constant references to her 'twenty year plan.'

Josh was the typical hot, supportive and down-to-earth love interest. There wasn't much of a build up to their relationship, I would have preferred if there was more flirtation. Birdie was an amazing addition to the cast, I loved how warm and welcoming she was. Andie I found to be a bit hit-and-miss, while Wyatt was super entertaining. Mia's sister doesn't appear much and when she does, it's really just for Mia to have someone to complain to. Mia's friends before Texas appear once and are never mentioned again - to me, not a realistic representation of best friends.

Overall this was a quick, easy read that, in my opinion, lacked real depth and was fully predictable.

This was an excellent addition to this series. Mia learns that life isn’t linear to find the life one deserves not the one they think they they need. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

I really enjoyed My Cone and Only so when I saw another book by Susannah Nix was available on Netgalley, I immediately hit request. I'm pleased to say this book was just as enjoyable and was the light fun read I needed.

Mia is a city girl at heart. When the only job offer that comes her way is based out in a small town, she takes it up telling herself she'll stay for the one year contract while searching for something else in the meantime. Of course, she doesn't bank on meeting grumpy cowboy Josh...

Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. I look forward to reading the remaining books.

I really liked this romance. Two worlds will collide and it sparks. Although I found the male character a little too nice for my taste, he was perfect for our protagonist. Moreover, I really liked the latter. I got attached to her quickly. The vision of the world that she can have was refreshing. Even the secondary characters were great. I even laughed at them from time to time.
I really recommend this sweet romance. Perfect for a relaxing time with great characters and tenderness.

Mia has her life all mapped out, and despite the fact that her only job offer is in small town Texas, she is going to stick to her plan. Unfortunately, the curveballs keep coming when her boyfriend breaks up with her and Bowman is even more rural than she expected. Although she is a city girl at heart, she slowly begins to fall in love with teaching and the small town charm. Also, the rugged and reclusive goat farmer next door does not hurt her opinion of the place. I really enjoyed this story as Mia both grows a lot as a person and we get to see Josh slowly open up to her. I loved watching them fall for each other-- I truly think they are the most supportive couple I have ever read about! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good HEA! (I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion)

Elementary Romantic Calculus is a city-girl-in-a-small-town, college professor (in a STEM field) and farmer romance told in third person POV following the heroine. It is the sixth book in the Chemistry Lessons series but can easily be read as a standalone (I personally had not read any previous installments in the series and had no trouble following the storyline, nor did I notice any characters that were obviously couples from previous books and thus assume there were no spoilers).

I wanted so badly to like this book! There are so many aspects of the story, the characters, and the romance that I typically enjoy and was really looking forward to, but I struggled to connect with this book and found myself frequently reaching for my phone while reading or not looking forward to reading at the end of the days as much as usual. This would all normally lead to me DNFing a book, but because I was gifted an ARC I wanted to complete it so I could give a fair review. I did not check the work count, but it did not seem longer than average, but it took me over a week to finish reading (while I normally read two books per week).

There were certain aspects of this book I did enjoy. I really love math (I even applied to colleges as a math major before changing my field of study in my freshman year); so, I loved the level of detail the author included when describing Mia’s work. I could see how someone less interested in the topic could be bored by it, but I found it nostalgic and entertaining. I also enjoyed seeing the city-girl-in-a-small-town trope not play out in the typical way. Despite only planning to be in Crowder for one year, Mia does not resist the lifestyle or try to keep distance from the residents but instead embraces the lifestyle and has fun learning new things and making new friends along the way.

Unfortunately, I felt that both the main characters lacked depth and relatability. Josh’s anxiety and resulting reclusiveness in reaction to a past social trauma was not addressed as prominently as I would have liked. Mia’s toxic relationship with her father felt unbelievable given how much he had already wronged both her and her sister in the past. Both these issues were resolved in the end, but I think by then I was so disheartened by the way the storylines had played out that I wasn’t even relieved to see them conclude.

Because the setting, steam level, and characters seemed on the surface like things I should have enjoyed, I find myself wondering if I would have connected with it more had it been written in first person POV. Ultimately, I was left disappointed, but I may still consider trying another book from this series or by this author in the future.

Everything about Nix’s Women in STEM series is fantastic. I love the representation and she writes a variety of different concentrations of study so well. I love a small town romance and it was nice to see a shift in scenery with this one. This one has been my favorite of the series so far. Here for the smut. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a STEM romance. I need more!

Elementary Romantic Calculus is a great addition to the Chemistry Lessons Series. I love the representation of women in STEM that it brings. Mia is smart, independent and sure about what she wants until meeting Josh throws her plan off course. My heart hurt so much for Josh and the trauma he had been through. I struggled a little with the development of Josh and Mia's relationship. I can't quite pinpoint what it was missing, another interaction maybe, it felt rushed and not at the same time. I really enjoy Susannah Nix's writing, it's smart and always has a great flow. The secondary characters are amazing, it was great to see a glimpse of Wyatt and Andi. Overall it's a charming read that is a true standalone, but I do definitely recommend the rest of the series too.

I've done it again - started reading a series out of order! I have most of this series on my kindle and inadvertently started with the wrong book - whoops! However, it's not hindered my enjoyment of the book and I can't wait to delve into the others.

Mia is a brand shiny new, just out of the wrapper Ph.D. She's decided to change tack and now she's job hunting at just about the worst time in employability statistics! Instead of lofty academia in research, she's teaching under-graduates in a speck of a town in deepest, darkest Texas.

Enter a new and interesting friend - he's a goat farmer. Yes, a goat farmer but she's never met one this handsome.

Fun, flirty, fresh, and with a tad more heat than other books I've read from this author. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to delve into the others in the series.

Mia has a PhD in mathematics, but with the current climate is having a hard time finding a job. She has had her life mapped out fo awhile, but is having some issues with making that work lately. She is forced to take the only job offered to her as a guest lecturer at a university in a very small town in rural Texas, and she isn't pleased about it.

When she arrives, she meets Josh, who is a goat farmer and makes the most delicious cheese she has ever tasted. Josh rarely leaves his farm, and doesn't like to talk to many people, so when he hits it off with Mia, his friends and family are amazed. They start a relationship but both know it is only for the year that her contract demands. Once that time is over, Mia will use her experience to go on to a bigger and better school.

I am a huge fan of the new crop of books that have been coming out about women working in STEM areas, This book didn't disappoint! The romance between Josh and Mia is everything a romance fan could ask for, while also delivering a woman who has an amazing brain for mathematics, and a man who isn't at all uncomfortable about it. I loved this book, and can't wait to read about more of the characters from this small town!

Thanks to Haver Street Press for providing me with an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!

This story follows Mia, who is a city girl and has a PhD in Mathematics but she is unable to find a job but when she gets a job in small town in Texas there's no chance that she can let it go.

I loved this story do much, it flowed so easily and it was so fun to read. It was petty fast paced, so at no point was I bored or even wanted to keep the book down.

I felt like the romantic aspect of the story had taken a backseat for some time but I loved it because both the characters had issues they had to work through, and they took a step towards it. I could see the character growth in both of them.

I loved the side characters too, it felt like they have their own stories and weren't dependent on the main characters. I would love to see what happens with them next!

This is another gem in this wonderful series.

I really enjoyed this story, I've lived in TX off and on for the past 12 years and all the different references throughout the book made my heart so happy. This is a great almost fish out of water story between Josh and Mia. The author does a good job talking about mental health and therapy which is wonderful. I feel more stories should naturally be adding these in, even if only a few paragraphs. This is a wonderful addition to the series that was a wonderful read.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I have read other books by Susannah Nix so I was expecting a good book. What I got was a GREAT BOOK! I connected with this book so much. Maybe it’s because I’m an assistant professor at a small Texas university or maybe it’s because I love a story with broken people who still find love. Either way, this book is now in my top 5 romance reads of all time. My suggestion, go read it now!!!
