This ended up not being for me. It was an interesting concept, but I just didn't connect with the main character.

I'm a sucker for a morally grey character, and absolutely adored "Dexter," so I thought "You Know What You Have to Do" – a story about a girl who hears voices telling her to kill people who deserve it – would be right up my alley.

And technically, it was – I enjoyed some aspects of the dark humor and Mary-Magdalene's villainous inclinations. But I thought the slice=of-life feel and the spontaneous nature of the voice our main character hears was a bit too controlling rather than something that she learns to temper and live with in her own way.

Overall, while the book had interesting moments and is a fun idea, it somehow never felt like there were high stakes and ultimately felt a bit lackluster.
