David Seaburn’s BROKEN PIECES OF GOD involves a middle class family in a middle class community where people struggle with typical things like finances, insurance, sickness, job losses, family support, and more. In a sense, it’s a story about loss. Eddy is an older man who has lost his job and is in danger of losing his wife to cancer. Their two children are also lost, in a way, having moved away, caught up in their own issues. Eddy’s best friend struggles with his own family and personal issues. But this is also a story about hope. Beneath the surface, something amazing, exciting, miraculous is about to happen.

This heart-felt story of real love and redemption relies on well-developed and very believable characters to drive it to its satisfying conclusion.

I love stories that raise questions and BROKEN PIECES OF GOD does this very well. Can we reach God through prayer? Does He answer us? Is our relationship with God a transactional one that requires that we somehow pay for His gifts? Does God punish people for past sins or for the sins of others in their family?

Seaburn’s novel would make a wonderful read for book clubs, as people wrestle with the timely issues raised in his story. A book club discussion guide would make a great companion for the book. But BROKEN PIECES OF GOD also makes a exceptional standalone read, challenging the reader to contemplate his/her own belief system.

Seaburn has landed an inspirational character-driven tale of faith, life and redemption in these modern times. Don’t miss it!
