This is a fast paced and engaging thriller by and author whose work was new to me. The plotting is clever, the story timely and the characters well developed. Recommended!

I found the audio version of this book very difficult to follow. I am giving the novel itself another chance and will try reading the version. I will offer my opinion of that format.

Excellent spy novel! David McCloskey knows the tradecraft and it shines through in Damascus Station. There is a realism to this story that can only come from someone with experience. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

My first spy thriller with a focus on Syria, and with an ex-CIA author, you know you'll get a firsthand account on spycraft.

After the disappearance of an American spy, CIA case officer Sam travels to Paris to recruit a Syrian woman, Miriam, who knows the ins and outs of the Syrian Palace. She agrees to work for America and he teaches her spy trade. They developed a strong connection and become romantically involved. As if spying in Damascus under the Assaad regime isn't nail-biting enough, their secret more than handler-asset relationship gives me the heebie-jeebies throughout the story!

The thrills and actions are there, but certain parts are bogged down with too much detail resulted in unusual pacing. All in all, a very compelling story, and I hope to read more books by David McCloskey.

Thank you to Tantor Audio and Netgalley for providing audio ARC.

A quintessential spy/espionage novel with all the twists, turns, and betrayals that you need to be immersed in this world. I found myself forgetting about my surroundings as I listened to this gripping novel!

Adding another author to my espionage, elite forces, spy, thrill seeking reading list. As a fan of Brad Thor, Mark Greaney, Marc Cameron, Tom Clancy and others, this author can help ensure there is a new thrill seeking, adrenalin filled reading need every month for me. This story shifted me from following an elite forces member to living vicariously through a case officer for what seems like a longer duration of espionage and spying while still building suspense on each page. Bring on the next book.
