This is a great book to have at home, in a library, daycare, school, etc. It has great illustrations to keep all ages captivated and an even greater meaning to what it takes to truly be kind. It gives kids and even adults things they can do to be kind to others, with examples of each one. The world could always use a little more kindness and helping teach kids young what that looks like is a beautiful thing.

I will definitely be adding this book to my Social Skills library at school! It really does a nice job of showing children that there are many easy and simple ways they can add a little kindness into their day! I was also really impressed with the last couple of pages where children could work to find ways to be kind to the people in the pictures. It gives them a way to show their understanding and feel ready to go out there and be the "I" in kind! Adorable and very catchy, this will hold the attention of young readers and inspire them to be kind.

I have come to love Julia Cook's books in my elementary classroom. They have good stories with great meanings that can easily start conversations in the classroom. This is another good title to use when starting to talk about random acts of kindness or just how people can be kind. Lots of examples and then ending pages give kids ideas of what else they can do. I will definitely add to my third grade classroom library!

The illustrations were colorful and inviting, and reminded me a bit of the "I'm Just a Bill" animations from Schoolhouse Rock. I think this would appeal to adults who remember this cartoon when selecting it as well as children. The message of empathy and kindness was relevant and the instances of ways to show kindness would work well in a classroom or therapy setting.

I love the message behind being the "I" in Kind and I think that this will be well-received by readers and caregivers alike.

I like how this book gives all different examples that are realistic for the ways the reader could be kind. I think this would be great in a school for kindness week, or as a reminder of what behavior should look like.

I really liked this book. It defined kindness and gave concrete examples of what the reader can do to be kind. The pictures really supported the story and were richly colored. I can’t wait to share this book with my 5 year old grandson. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a terrific way to talk to your kids about kindness. My sons school motto is #bekind but sometimes for little that’s a vague topic. We tell our kids to be kind but we don’t always tell them how. This book gives wonderful ways to incorporate kindness and be the I in KIND.

Beautiful story and illustrations. I will be recommending this to all the parents and educators in my life. You should too.

"Will You Be the I in Kind" is a beautifully illustrated picture book written for ages 4-10 that defines "kindness" in appropriate terms, and then uses some a social story to show children what they can do to be kind. Julia Cook's titles always do a wonderful just explain some pretty big concepts to children in ways they can understand and then provides appropriate examples for ways to incorporate these concepts into their everyday routines. This story would be great for home, classroom, or for social groups and is suitable for atypical children as well. I am a huge fan of Julia Cook and have many of her titles in my collection, which my son calls, "books to make me behave.". Another excellent addition to her long list of wonderful titles!

Will you be the "I" in kind?

This story was an absolute delight to read from the first page to the last. Cook has crafted an exquisite tale about kindness that children and adults will adore from the moment they open the cover.

Kind is missing his "I" so he sets off to find it, because without it he isn't quite kind. So he asks children if they will be the missing "I" for him. They ask him how and he shares many ways to be kind, such as smiling at people, helping others in need, caring for the community and planet and caring about others. This book touches on empathy, citizenship and character. The three big words used in the text to wrap it all up are thoughtful, helpful and nice, which are all important life skills for children to develop.

This story was so touching and educational. I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more. Incorporating social and emotional education into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. The cartoon-style illustrations were bright and vibrant, that will capture the attention of children. Bold fonts and simple prose will also make this the perfect book for an emerging reader to tackle on their own. The simplicity of the text did not detract from the power and importance of the message.

I absolutely recommend sharing this book with all the children in your life. A must read.

This was a gorgeously- and diversely-illustrated (by Jomike Tejido) and sweetly written (by Julia Cook) picture book about putting the 'I' in kind by stepping up when kindness is called for, and setting a good example for others to follow. Several examples are given, such as offering to help up someone who has fallen down, by having a ready smile, by making sure trash gets into the trash bin where it belongs, by taking an interest in others, and by letting a young kid go before you if you're waiting in a long line.

This is a good sentiment and we often forget to follow it for a variety of reasons, which is why a reminder such as this one is so helpful. I commend this book as a worthy read.

This book was beautifully illustrated, simple, but still fun. It helps kids understand being kind and the different ways you can show it. Overall a great book and one where kids will actually pay attention through it.

You're not quite Kind. You're missing the I. You should go look for it.

If you are looking for kindness and spreading kindness, this book will fit the bill. You are the I in Kindness. If you see a need, it can be you to fit that need and show kindness. In a smile, in a deed, acts of kindness is all around.

This book for young children is very engaging in the act of kindness and to read it with your kiddos can be a family adventure to spread kindness that is much needed. This is all the activism book your child will ever need.

A special thank you to National Center for Youth Issues and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Will You Be the “I” in Kind is a great book to start discussing small ways in which you can make things better. With simple text and diverse illustrations this is definitely a book I’d include in circle time for kids two and up.

This is an adorable and accessible book that shows children concrete ways to act out kindness. So often as adults we tell children to “be kind,” but that can be rather abstract to a small child. This book is wonderful because it shows children specific ways to be kind that they may not have thought of, like just sharing toys and not hitting. Our world needs so much more kindness, and this book is a wonderful start.

4.5 Stars

Will You Be the I in Kind is a book about how to be kind to others and the environment. A paper with the word ‘kind’ is missing an I. It goes around asking kids to be that ‘I’.
They say they’d love to and ask how they can do it. Each of them gets to do a selfless task, something as simple as smiling at others or allowing another kid to go first.
Together, the kids form a huge 'I' in kind because that’s how kindness should be. The book is beautiful. The illustrations are so vibrant and full of life. The characters are diverse (to an extent) and cute, kids who want to really do something good to make others happy.
The author has added a note at the end for parents and educators to start discussions with kids and make them understand the importance of being empathetic towards others.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and National Center for Youth Issues and am voluntarily leaving a review.

With wonderful examples of easy ways for kids to be kind, this book has a fun way to portray kindness and how it is asking people to the I in kind. I think this book can lead to great conversations with adults on what it looks like in their lives to practice kindness.

I love this! A wonderfully interactive book about kindness for young readers that helps them specifically understand the actions they can take to spread kindness. It's so helpful to be able to show concrete examples of what kind behavior looks like! This will help them identify with the message and feel a sense of agency that they have the power to be kind as well.

The illustrations are bright and engaging. The pages at the end offer kids the opportunity to spot situations where they can be kind and describe what they would do. This will help even more to reinforce the message. I can't wait to read this for my pre-K and it would make a wonderful addition to school, classroom, and personal libraries.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

A cute look at the different ways we can be kind. This would be a great storytime book to kick off a discussion on kindness. This book would also be good for schools that are focusing heavily on being the I in kind!

What an adorable book! With the judgmental attitudes we are facing these days, kindness is such an important topic. And I firmly believe you have start teaching it at a young age. This book shows kids that kindness can be shown in small acts each day. It emphasizes taking ownership of how you treat others and encourages empathy. The artwork is adorable as well, with diverse characters and bright colors. This book is a must!
