This is my second listen to a book by this author and she delivered that twisty turny novel I expected. It’s another domestic thriller, where everyone has a secret. It’s about a community that went to school together and still live close by. Stephanie and Enzo are seeing each other. Her husband went missing and his wife was murdered. Michelle and Jude live across the street and he’s a cop. In case you missed it earlier, everyone has a secret that the reader isn’t in the know and the characters remind you often.

The thing that is so unique about Kiersten’s books is there is twist upon twist upon twist and they each change what you know and build upon each other. And while they might seem a little out there, they always fit within the narrative she’s created. These books aren’t overly long and always move along at a breakneck pace. There isn’t time to overthink it as you read.

Mandy Kaplan and Wyatt Baker narrate the book and they are great. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to either one, but I’d happily listen to their next narration.

If you like fast-paced twists and turns, I recommend you pick this one up.

3.5 ⭐️ Rounded to 4

I’ve been hearing the name Kiersten Modglin in my reading Facebook groups for the past few months and seeing rave reviews so when I saw this book as an ALC, I had to try it.

I think all the hype around the author lead to a sort of let down when I actually finished the actual book which doesn’t mean the book was bad or shouldn’t be read or this author shouldn’t be revered, just that my expectations were set really high and I was expecting a thorough story with lots of suspense and shocking twists.

The story revolves around 3 main characters- Stephanie- whose husband disappeared 4 months earlier, Enzo, the town mayor, and Michelle, the wife of the local sheriff, All 3 have secrets that could destroy their lives if anyone found out. It starts when Stephanie calls the police saying she saw a car go off the bridge into the water which will prompt a search of the water and the water is where the secrets are buried.

There were twists, the ending is unexpected and not what you are expecting with is why I rounded up to 4 stars instead of rounded down BUT I felt the story was almost incomplete and checked more than once to see if I had missed a few chapters accidentally. There were parts of the storyline I didn’t understand and that wasn’t fully developed to the point I began to wonder if this was the 2nd book in a series. For example, Stephanie and Michelle dislike each other but I can never figure out why and it never explains it although it is mentioned quite often in the story. Without giving away spoilers, the conversation between Michelle and Stephanie in Michelle’s kitchen before Stephanie receives a phone call doesn’t make sense at that point in the story unless it has happened already in the past and if so, it never explains it. Also the story between Enzo and his wife is never really explained.

Overall though, it was a quick listen. The narrator was pleasant to listen to. The story line wasn’t really suspenseful but the twists at the end does put it from mystery to psychological thriller.

This is a very clever mystery with a bit of thrill. Although somewhat predictable, I was surprised with a couple of plot twists. All of the characters lives are intertwined between a missing man and a dead woman. I listened to the audio version and I found the narration a bit annoying with the male voice sounding too macho and the female sounding too southern. I think I would have rated this higher had I read the print version but I did enjoyed it overall. 3.5 stars rounded up.

Twisty and turn-y. Lots of neighborhood drama to be uncovered. I feel that all of the characters are unlikable characters, but I also really enjoy unlikable characters. Everyone has a secret. Everyone makes questionable decision to keep them hidden. It was a fast paced book and kept my attention for the full length of the book. Just when you think you know everything. You don’t. Modglin seems good at always throwing in one more twist. Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion. I really enjoyed this read!

There are just six houses in the elite subdivision of Southwest Acres and in small town of Cason Glen... Six houses and half of them are overflowing with crazy drama...

First I have to say I hated Michelle everything about her bothered me and she just seemed criminally incapable of minding her own business and thought that everybody else’s business was Hera and that for some reason everybody else cared way more about her than they actually did. Sorry Michelle nobody cares about you... you are just an annoying busybody and you deserve to let your guilt eat you alive....

Anyway... Stephanie’s husband has been missing for the last four months... it’s rather obvious what happened to him from the start... though all of his secrets do come as a big of a surprise. The story does however start with Stephanie claiming to see a car go into the lake late one night during a storm. Jude, the sheriff/ Michelle’s husband goes out to investigate and so does their neighbor the local mayor Enzo. For different reasons both men don’t want anyone searching the lake because it has some secrets. So they convince Stephanie maybe she didn’t see anything but turns out Stephanie was lying anyway but why? Why does she want someone to search the lake?

With her husband missing Stephanie is going through a lot having to work two jobs just to get by and get teenage twin sons are spiraling out of control. There are things though that she’s hiding things she knows about her husband and fears about her sons. But a good mother would do any and everything to protect her children, right? No matter what that is....

Enzo is in love with a woman he might never truly have and has a secret of his own and is still mourning the loss of his murdered wife. He’s got things going on so when his troubled runaway niece shows up at his door he isn’t quite sure what to do with her. But the best thing to do is to keep her with him where she will be safe... right?

Michelle and Jude have their own secret and a daughter of their own to protect and they will at any cost. But they start wondering at what point is the cost too high? And can they live with themselves and the choices they are making?

All the secrets were driving me crazy and all the lying but it was really good when usually that type of thing just annoys me. I mean you can guess what Michelle and Jude are hiding and why and what Enzo is hiding but Stephanie’s secrets do come as a big of a surprise. It did drive me crazy when they found the person murdered that everybody was so busy trying to save themselves that it seemed like nobody even cared who commuted that particular murder. And then in the end... well... didn’t see that one coming!

I’ve never read this author’s work before but now I have to check out what else there is. The audiobook was good I love multiple narrators and they were both good.

Format: audiobook
Author: Kiersten Modglin ~ Title: Our Little Secret ~ Narrators: Mandy Kaplan, Wyatt Baker
Content: 3.5 stars ~ Narration: 4.5 stars

Someone’s missing.
Someone’s dead.
Everyone’s lying.

A very gripping psychological thriller. Our Little Secret will keep you on the edge of your seat. Small town, everyone knows everyone. Gossip is part of their everyday life. And everyone has their own secret.

This is a quick read. We learn about the story from multiple POVs. I liked it, but I found most characters annoying, and they were almost all so painfully shallow. Also, their dialogs were sometimes too simple and superficial.

Despite that, I would recommend it. This novel might be an excellent choice for fans of psychological thrillers looking for a lightweight and quick read.

There are two narrators in this audiobook: Mandy Kaplan narrated women's parts, and Wyatt Baker narrated men's. They did an excellent job, and I liked both.

3.5 rounded to 4. Thanks to OrangeSky Audio the for the ARC and the opportunity to listen to this! All opinions are my own.

Whoa! Our Little Secret, by Kiersten Modglin, is quite the twisted, psychological thriller with a whole lot of sick, twisted characters. I wouldn't want to find myself in a dark alley with any of them. They're all pretty terrible people. They're even insanely nosey and annoying. And if you love twists, at the end, you will love this ending.
I thought both narrators were great! Their narrating was smooth and enjoyable to listen to.
They had Wyatt Baker narrate the men's parts and Mindy Kaplan narrate the women's.
Cason Glen. Is the perfect town. The locals make sure that that's what everyone believes.
So, when one of their own goes missing, there's a tsunami of panic and lies all over their neighborhood.
They thought that they were safe but suddenly things feel a lot more dangerous. As, the cracks start to show, the dark and devious facts begin to reveal the neighborhood's secrets.

This book was amazing! I listened to the audio version and loved the narrators- they added so much to the story. The book has so many twists and turns with different storylines that all weave together with a perfect flow. This book is shorter than a lot of others in the thriller genre but works to make an interesting book with no unnecessary fluff. The author was new to me but after looking to see if she had other books, I was pleasantly surprised to find that she is a popular author with quite a few (well rated) books! I’ve added a ton of her books to my list to read and will definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller!

Another great thriller filled with twists by the queen herself. This one had me second guessing everyone and not knowing who I could trust. This would be the perfect read to add to your TBR this spooky season.

“Evil lurks in the safe places, too. The quiet places.”

What happens in Cason Glen stays in Cason Glen, right???? Our Little secret is so addictive. It will make someone want to keep reading it so much that the person feels ill without it. It will keep you guessing who is deceiving who and what exactly does each neighbor know about the other one. Stephanie, Enzo, Michelle, Jude and Ted, what about poor old Ted? Is he really missing? What do the kids of Cason Glen have to do with everything?

“After all, what are parents for if not to protect their children however they can? The way I see it, we’re all part monster. Some of us just hide it better than…”

I liked the alternating chapters and the small town vibe in this suspense/mystery where everybody knows everyone in their small town. As the story begins, Stephanie's husband, Ted, is missing. Ted's best friend Jude, lives across the street with his wife, Michelle, who is friends with Stephanie because their husband's grew up together and were best friends and then, both women were pregnant at the same time and now have teenagers in high school. You also hear from Enzo, whose wife Lesley left him single. So, right from the beginning, the reader wants to know what the secret the Michelle and Jude are hiding and where's Ted? What fell flat for me was the lack of character development. When you have characters that may be psychopaths, I would have liked to know the history of how they got to be that way. By the time I started to get involved with the characters, the mystery was uncovered and the story ended. #netgalley

OK, I’m in. From the start, the story pulled me in and held my interest to the end!
Mystery, drama, secrets, cover-ups.
Some good twists throughout, with an ending that throws a hard curve ball.

Audio Version narrated by Mandy Kaplan, and Wyatt Baker. Ms. Kaplan’s voice had (or used) an accent.
Her tone and accent almost reminded me of Reese Witherspoon. High emotion was almost constantly reflected in her voice tone. Mr. Baker read well and his emotional tones were appropriate for the emotions in the character he was portraying.

4 Stars

Secrets are really deep and well hiden but one night things start to change. Everybody in this small town Cason Glen has something to hide.

Someone’s missing.
Someone’s dead.
Everyone’s lying.

It was so interesting to follow all the involved. More the story went on more there were people that wanted somebody dead. And more guilt come out.

I wondered if this missing and the dead was the same person. However, it was not that simple. The complication seemed like a lot of options that were a pleasure to read. 4.5

I started this book with the hopes that it would cause me a similar emotional feeling that The Silent Patient did. I can say that it made me feel more. This book is quick from the beginning. I found myself continuously asking "What did you do? What do you want to hide?". We are kept out of the loop until the very end of the book, and I absolutely loved that writing choice. This book was such a quick read, and I appreciate the complexity of the relationships between the characters. The ending, like I anticipated, was VERY unexpected, and so worth the read.

This book had so much potential. I was loving it but the thing that got me we’re the twists. I mean really lack their of. I felt like we had all this stuff leading up to twists but I didn’t think they were as great as I wanted them to be. I’ve read books by this author and the twists is what made me love them. Unfortunately this one fell flat. It’s not bad it’s just i wanted more from it.
