This book was very sweet! I loved the setting on the remote island and the cast of characters that live there. I love a one bed/forced closeness trope. Although the "marrying herself" was a bit cheesy for me at times, I genuinely liked out main characters and how their relationship grew slowly, it felt realistic, honest and real.
A very, sweet quick read!

This was such a sweet romance novel! I loved the theme of living yourself and also the love of a community. I loved getting to know the townsfolk as well as Mack and Cleo. I struggled a little with how fast everything happened after Mack got THE phone call, but I still enjoyed this romance! The dual narratives was imperative for this story so thank you for that! I was sad when it ended. I wanted a few more chapters in the future to see how things ended up for everyone.
Thank you Ballantine Books and Netgalley for my early copy in exchange for a honest review!

As a twenty something, I really needed to read a book like this. If you’re feeling lost and not sure where you’re going in life, this book will help you feel normal. I loved the romance and I loved how easy this was to read. I will be buying this and buying it for my friends.

One Night on the Island is the second book I have read by Josie Silver. I loved her first book, One Day in December, so I went into this one with high expectations. I wish I could say that I loved it, but I had some issues with premise—mainly that Mack is separated, but not divorced from his wife, when he starts up with Cleo. The inner monologues were rather rambling, and the ending was a little disappointing. I did enjoy all of the side characters and the island itself.
Thanks the NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy.

One Night on the Island was perfectly adorable. Josie Silver is quickly becoming one of my favorite romance authors. I enjoyed The Two Lives of Lydia Bird and absolutely loved One Day in December.
One Night on the Island follows British Cleo and American Mack as they find themselves double-booked at Otter Lodge on Salvation Island, Ireland. Cleo has come to the island on a work assignment to "marry herself," and Mack has come to escape a bad situation at home. An unlikely romance builds, along with many friendships with the loveable residents of Salvation. While I wasn't really into the whole "self-marriage" plotline (a bit to woo-woo for me) and also despised Mack's wallowing about Susie, I enjoyed the deeper meaning behind living your true and best life. One Night on the Island is a cute vacation romance with a little extra weight.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine Books for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest feedback.

Loved this book by Josie Silver! I feel so dumb when I cry like a blubbering idiot over a book, but I couldn't help it. She drew me in and i was with Silver from the first page. The story focuses on Cleo who is burned out with her writing job in London so she accepts an assignment to venture to a remote island and rediscover herself. Once there, she meets some interesting characters and this is where Silver really shines as an author. All of these people come across as so realistic and perfectly drawn. Unique personalities. I loved the scenery, the quirky island, and eccentric people, all of it. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Absolute perfection! This book was an amazing combination of community, women empowerment, finding yourself and sailing your own course, with a healthy dose of romance.
It's a classic trope of enemies to lovers, but it isn't formulaic in any way. Cleo is a columnist and has written about dating in London for years. She is burnt out and her editor suggest she go on a retreat and self-couple and write about that. She is reluctant, but doesn't see any other choice. Mack has been untethered ever since his wife said she wanted a temporary separation. He is traveling to a remote island in Ireland that has ties to his family roots. He is a photographer and plans to build an exhibit around the photos he takes there. Due to a glitch in scheduling Mack and Cleo end up sharing Otter Lodge. There is no hotel or other lodging on the island and the ferry boat they both came in on, only comes once a week. Their circumstances lead to some funny moments as they navigate how to live together and meet the goals they've set for themselves.
Their coming together is poignant and tragic and so sweet. They call it a micro love story as it's supposed to only be a holiday romance, but it becomes so much more. Just like this novel became so much more than a simple romance. It's got staying power. I. LOVED. IT!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC of this book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In this story, we find Cleo and Mack together in a small, secluded cabin in Salvation Island, Ireland. They have embarked on a journey of solitude and self-discovery, when they find the cabin has been doubled booked. They find more than they bargained and find their paths have crossed to lead them on their journey.
I enjoyed this book very much. I like the dynamics of the main characters and the differences that each have that complement the other. I felt there were enough surprises to keep the story interesting and engaging and happen at the right time. The descriptions of the landscape and the cabin made me feel as if I was there. It was easy to picture both as I read making a true connection to the story.
One of my favorite parts of the book were the relationships that developed outside the cabin. As the main characters went to the town, the townspeople embraced both Mack and Cleo and a bond was created that was unbreakable between each of them. The uniqueness of each person was carefully crafted by Silver. They development of those relationships with friends was a highlight of this story.
This was a cozy novel. I enjoyed reading by the fire as the temperature was beginning to cool and the leaves falling as they had faded from fall.

While I thought this would be a predicable meet-cute novel, it definitely turned into something a little unexpected. Nicely written, gorgeous descriptions of scenery, and one particular scene that brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoy Josie Silver's books.

Cleo has spent her 20s looking for her “flamingo” and documenting the search in her romance column at the magazine where she works. Now that she’s turning 30, she decides (at her boss’ insistence) to marry herself instead, and chooses a remote Irish island on which to do so. Meanwhile, Boston-based photographer Mack’s world has been shaken, and he decides to seek some clarity on the island his family is from. They both arrive on the same day and find that, by some mixup, they’ve booked the same one room cabin. And neither wants to cede the cottage to the other …
Thank you @randomhouse - Ballantine and @netgalley for this ARC because it is my newest five star read!
I’ve said this many times before, but I prefer my romance with some meat to it and DAMN did this deliver. I wasn’t super surprised that I liked this because I adored Silver’s first two books, but I think this might be my favorite. Silver had a way of writing that is uproariously funny and charming while also being deeply poignant and somehow invoking nostalgia for situations and places the reader hasn’t even been in/to. That sounds like an impossible feat to do all at once, I know, but she does.
She is also amazing at making you truly care about her characters. This had a group of fully fleshed out characters that you feel like you know in real life - even the ones that barely got any airtime. I also absolutely loved the two mains in this book, and watching them interact brought me so much joy.
I have no shame admitting this book made me cry multiple times, both happy and sad tears. Towards the end I couldn’t even pick it up without tearing up because my emotions were so close to the surface. Ultimately this was a book not just about romantic love, but also about finding oneself and loving what you find, and it deeply resonated with me. This is one I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

One Night on the Island by Josie Silver (Out February 15, 2022)
Oh and a side note, but thank you @josiesilverauthor for including great details about my beloved Boston (especially the old John Hancock building)!

I was super interested by the description of this book but it fell flat for me. I had trouble with Mack still being married and seemingly not being over his wife which made it hard for me to enjoy the romance. I didn't feel the chemistry between Cleo and Mack unfortunately - though I liked their characters separately. It was really well written, but lacking in the romance and chemistry for me.

I was absolutely thrilled to get an ARC of this book since I loved Josie Silver's book One Day in December. I really enjoyed this book and following along on Cleo's journey to Salvation Island. It was not only interesting to see Cleo and Mack's relationship develop but also Cleo's relationships with the women on the island. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The premise of this book sounded interesting and is why I selected it on Netgalley to read as an ARC. A woman, who write for an online magazine, about to turn 30, goes to a remote island to "marry herself." Through some miscommunication her solitary getaway is interrupted by a man who is looking to escape the troubles with his ex-wife at home. The two are force to stay together in a cottage without anyway to get off the island for weeks. Unfortunately, I felt like the chemistry between the two characters felt forced and felt the book really slowed down at about the half mark, making it hard to force myself to read on.
I really liked Josie Silver's last book, so was disappointed that this wasn't a winner for me.

Josie Silver has done it again! I have been looking forward to reading this and it did not disappoint. Beautifully written story about love and loving yourself. Thank you so much for my copy!

Imagine traveling to a remote island in Ireland as part of your job with all expenses paid. It sounds like a dream come true until you realize you are not alone in the cabin you were renting for yourself. Cleo is a writer in London who writes a dating column. After no luck searching for love she travels to Salvation Island to marry herself on her 30th birthday. However when she arrives to her cabin she finds that there is an American man who also claims to be staying in the one bedroom cabin. Although he looks like Hans Solo she has no desire to be sharing her cabin with him. What follows is a story that speaks to everyone of us about the choices we make and finding our true happiness.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a nice romance novel. It was a little predictable in some areas but I thought it had a great message and I truly cared about all of the characters. I think we all need a piece of Salvation Island. A great book especially when you are looking for a little escape from the real world.

4.25⭐
PG to PG-13 because this book isn't steamy but there's some 🔥 tension!
Wow this book honestly kind of messed with my head! How did I go from being annoyed with Cleo and Mack at the beginning to rooting for them by the end of the book? I think that just speaks to the prowess of Josie Silver.
This book's premise of two people getting stuck in a one room lodge on a remote island off the coast of Ireland was so interesting. I still do have a lot of questions: could there really not have been another place to create a temporary house? is self-coupling really a thing? what happened to Cleo's London apartment? How can I visit Salvation Island?!
But I found following the arc of this novel so interesting. I loved watching Cleo and Mack grow and getting to know the side characters was so much fun. It made me miss the friendly, laid-back Irish I've met on my own travels. So my recommendation is to read this book if you love the Irish people and want a book that will make you feel happy, sad, introspective and thoughtful. Sláinte!

I didn't read much of the synopsis because I wanted to go into this somewhat blind so I didn't know what to expect. What I got was a lovely novel set on an island that I wish were real life (not only because my last name was part of its story). If this author returned to tell more stories of people here I would snatch that book up in a hot second.
If you couldn't already tell, Josie Silver did a tremendous job creating the place and atmosphere of where this novel takes place. I delighted in the character of Cleo and while some may find her storyline annoying I found it delightful but I also love Emma Watson so that may be part of it. There's something to be said about wanting to love yourself before you can love anyone else properly.
This is a lovely story about a modern woman finding a bit of love when and where she lease expected, or wanted, to find it and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I’m so happy to be finished with this book! I disliked this enough that I’ll likely never read anything else by the author. One Night on the Island is the dragged out story of a woman who goes to a desolate island to marry herself (eye roll) and has to share quarters with a man who’s separated but still married and in love with his wife. There’s also a ton of side storylines with other people on the island.
I couldn’t get into any of this - I didn’t like our main female lead and thought the whole premise of joining with oneself ridiculously, I thought the male lead’s pining for his wife was an extreme turn off, and nobody else’s story on the island was interesting. This is also soooooo long and drawn out with a ton of cringeworthy angst, and yet the characters moved so quickly from hating each other to being in each others’ pants. It made no sense, and I felt nothing for them.
I voluntarily obtained a digital version of this book free from Netgalley and Ballantine in exchange for an honest review.

Cleo is an almost 30 year old dating blogger who is going to spend her birthday on a remote island in Ireland, per recommendation of her boss. Cleo is tired of heartbreak and the dating life so she is planning on doing some self-help to figure out what she really wants out of life. Once Cleo gets to cabin she finds out it is double booked.
Mac is going to visit the island from Boston to take his mind off of his dissolving marriage. Cleo and Mac end up sharing the one bedroom cabin until the weekly ferry arrives to take one of them
back home. Bad weather delays the arrival of the ferry. Cleo and Mac do not get along at first but once they start opening up to each other they realize they don’t really despise each other that much. I thought this was a quick and fun read but it was also very predictable. Boy meets girl, both have issues, will they find true love, etc. The self coupling of Cleo was strange to me as well. But if you take out the iffy parts, overall it was an entertaining and quick read. Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book. I give this one 3.5 stars

I’m ready to go off to an Irish island and create things now. What an emotional adventure meeting this cast and crew. Josie Silver’s writing style never disappoints. You get the love stories, but in such an intense literary way. Not your average romance novelist! And not your average book.
I hope we get a follow up to this story! I already miss the characters.
