I really loved the setting and the world created in this book, a bit more than I liked the main storyline. The troupe of a couple being thrown together is one I like and I did enjoy them being thrown together in the cabin. I was pleasantly surprised that they got together earlier than I thought they would, but the break up and coming back together was pretty paint by number. I loved the world of the island and all it’s residents and would love to spend more time there.

I was so excited to receive a review copy of this book after reading and loving Josie Silver’s One Day in December! This novel is like wearing the coziest sweater and getting the best hug ever at the same time.

These characters have such depth and you start rooting for them both from pretty early on. They both have complex journeys that the reader gets to go along on. I VERY rarely cry while reading books and the wails that came out while reading shocked me, but let me know how immersed and invested I was.

Curl up under a blanket next to a fireplace and take in all this book has to offer. This is the perfect Valentine’s Day read for those coupled or self-coupled!

I adored this book. This story explores life and love on so many different levels, it was pure beauty. Set on the magical Irish island aptly named Salvation Island, I felt I was whisked away there as well.

Cleo is a writer approaching her 30th birthday doing a story on self coupling, Mack is a photographer capturing the island, a place of his ancestors. At odds at the beginning after they are forced to share the lodge, they slowly develop a relationship based on truths spoken in the dark, shared coffee and whiskey, and a love for the special island they are inhabiting.

The island is filled with an unforgettable cast of characters. Cleo is embraced by the women as her journey of self discovery flourishes. Her journey is emotional and enlightening and enhanced by her developing relationship with Mack. She arrived on the island to be alone but she gets the exact opposite in so many different ways. Mack is on his own journey—recently separated from his wife, a father of two young boys, he will do anything and everything to always be the best father he can.

What develops in this story is nothing short of beautiful and life changing and magical. So many lessons learned, so many emotions felt and so many moments my heart was touched by these characters. Salvation Island lives up to its name in many multi layered ways. This book is raw and honest and simply wonderful. I loved it.

Josie Silver has done it again! This was one of those “stay all up to finish” kind of reads for me. The key to any good romance novel is investment in the characters and I found just that with Cleo and Mack! I loved hearing all about their different backgrounds, and I also loved that they both attended to their personal needs throughout the story and not just their romance. I adored this book!

Did not finish this book - I just kept reading, hoping to get invested in the characters and their story but I couldn't. I found myself connecting with Mack, but felt his story was missing so much - I kept waiting for more exploration of his connection to the island, I felt his history, but also just wanted to see him connected back with his kids.

Josie Silver has done it again! I love a non-traditional romance so much but Silver takes it to the next level. When a solitary one-bedroom cabin in remote Ireland gets double booked, Cleo and Mack have to make the best of it. From chalk lines to rules on the fridge, the two struggle tiptoeing around each other during their stay. Cleo set out to celebrate her 30th birthday with marriage for one ceremony while Mack wanted to escape his failed marriage. They both just wanted to be alone, the last thing they expected was their polar opposite to be present during their vacation.

I loved this book so much, from the setting to the romance to the community development, it was all amazing. The tension builds between the two that eventually Cleo and Mack agree to a holiday affair during their stay on Salvation Island and it pays off. Both stick to their original goal of self-discovery, but they also learn and grow together in such realistic ways, it was beautiful. Silver really knows how to pull at the heartstrings and keep you guessing to the end especially in this new will-they-won't-they. I highly recommend cozying up with this one especially during the winter, it's the perfect book to ready when you're stuck inside because it's miserably cold out and you need your heart to be cozy.

Wow. Just, wow. One Night on the Island made me laugh, it made me cry, and just in general gave me all of the feelings. This is a story of self discovery for two amazing characters.

Cleo is a romance columnist for a magazine who writes articles on finding her soulmate. She’s sent to a remote island to spend her 30th birthday by her boss to put a new spin on her column and give her a chance to figure out what’s next.

Mack is a photographer from Boston who has come to this remote Irish island to reconnect with his family’s roots and get some space from his crumbling life back home. Unfortunately they’re both in for a surprise when they realize they’re both booked in the same one-room cabin.

I instantly fell in love with both characters. Their heartaches and their joys were so beautifully portrayed, and their journeys together and apart were perfectly written. And let’s not forget about the supporting characters in the book. I would love to be able to go to the island and befriend each one of the wonderful inhabitants. Each character was so quirky and love-able, it was obvious that this is a place that would make anyone feel at home.

This is definitely one to snag when it releases in February 2022, but don’t forget to have your box of tissues on hand!

I loved the premise and storyline of this book. Traveling to a quiet island to find yourself, meeting a welcoming group of islanders, and falling in love with the place, the people, and yourself gives all the cozy feels to the reader. I really want to travel to Salvation Island!
I struggled a bit with the beginning of the book, I felt that the first week of Cleo and Mack’s stay in the lodge was glossed over. In fact, I went back to see if I missed something. However, overall I loved the characters and how the author was able to get me as the reader to really see how much they developed throughout the book (and how many times a complicated situation can make you feel many different things). Josie Silver writes fantastic novels, and this one was lovely. Thank you to NetGalley for the early read!

I was really excited to read this since I loved One Day In December. I enjoyed it but nothing compares to ODID. I really liked both the leads and that helped a lot. I didn't buy into the meet/cute, though. Ms. Silver is an incredible writer so I wold still recommend.

Cleo writes about her failed dates for an online magazine. As she approaches 30, her editor sends her to a remote Salvation Island in Ireland to self-couple/marry herself. On the way to the island she meets an annoying American, Mack. He tries to make small talk with her on the boat. She just wants him to leave her alone, because the whole purpose of this vacation is self-reflection and to write the story her editor has asked her to write. Cleo then makes her way to Otter Lodge, a beautiful isolated one room cottage with a gorgeous view. As soon as she opens the door, she sees Mack in the lodge. Apparently the cottage has been double-booked. This tiny island does not have any other accommodations and a huge rainstorm is headed their way, they decide to hunker down in the one room cottage together. Will they be able to live under the same roof while they weather the storm?

This forced proximity romance is unique. Mack and Cleo have some life issues to work through, which were unique and not usually found in this type of story. The island folk take Mack and Cleo in and show them true friendship. I laughed, ugly cried, swooned, and smiled throughout the book. I loved this Josie Silver book. It did not disappoint.

This is my second Josie Silver book and I can not wait to read another one. Her characters are so lovable. I just could not put this book down. And I loved the ending! No spoilers, but it worked. Totally worked. Any other characters I would have been disappointed, but it my heart was so happy the way it ended.

Unfortunately, it's the same time Cleo has "booked" the (one-bedroom) cottage for her commitment ceremony and time away. The two make an unlikely pair yet find a way to coexist under the same roof. Josie Silver has a way with words - she's charming, lovely, and really funny! Her characters are full of life and come alive within the pages of the story. Cleo and Mack's journey from enemies, to friends, to lovers, and whatever comes after is a beautiful story of love, loss, and second chances. It's a story of loving yourself enough to never settle, even if it means breaking your heart in the process.

I really enjoyed this book! I love that the book alternates between Cleo and Mack's perspectives. I feel like it really gives me the whole story. As with the other Josie Silver books I have read, I was engaged in the book almost immediately. I found myself rooting for Cleo and Mack, even though they had a definite stopping point laid out. I could picture these characters in my head while I read, and it was difficult to put the book down! Would definitely recommend.

This book was absolutely delightful and just what I needed. I clicked "request" the second I saw Josie Silver's name because of how much I enjoyed One Day in December BUT this book is even better. I really liked both the main characters and was very invested in their story. I loved everything about Salvation island and all its quirky inhabitants. Josie Silver has a beautiful way with words. This book pretty much checked all the boxes for me... It made me laugh, smile and cry. I couldn't put it down. It comes out in February and I highly recommend you grab a copy!

I want to live on this island!!! Ok maybe not live, but live beside and visit each week for the loveable, funny, eclectic group of wonderful characters that live in Salvation!
While I wanted more from the ending, I love to see a pair so honest when talking about what they want and their feelings.

One Day in December put Josie Silver on the map for me and it will always be one of my favorite novels. While I enjoyed ONE NIGHT ON THE ISLAND, I felt like it was missing the magic I found in ONE DAY IN DECEMBER and it took a little too long to get invested in the story. The community and the island were at the heart and strength of the book.

I really enjoyed Josie Silver’s One Day in December so I was thrilled to receive an ARC for her latest novel One Night on the Island. I loved this book just as much as the other! I really enjoyed the characters of Mack and Cleo, and all of the other characters on Salvation island were just heart warming and perfect. Cleo’s whole intention of going to Salvation seemed a little silly at first, but understandable given her day job and dating history. However, I ended up truly getting into her self-marriage ceremony on her 30th birthday. I feel like we all could have used that ceremony and deep promises to ourselves at 30. Mack’s story of his marriage was difficult but I think it was well written and fully explored. Towards the end, I truly waffled on how I thought the book would end! It was a beautiful story, and I don’t know if it’s a real place but the author created a paradise in Salvation island that I wish was real!

When I sit down to read one of Silver’s books, I’ve come to expect a beautifully crafted love story that’s not merely about two people finding one another, but are also about the journeys that those people take in and of themselves.

I love a light, fluffy rom com, but there’s something to be said for a love story with teeth, with stakes that go above and beyond “happily ever after” now and again. A love story that will break your heart and doesn’t quite promise it’ll put it back together again.

One Night on the Island is just such a story. Heroine Cleo writes a dating column in London called “Finding my Flamingo” in which she chronicles her (thus far fruitless) efforts to find her match. Her boss can tell the gig’s getting a bit stale, and Cleo is on the edge of thirty, so she hatches a clever scheme that Cleo should go off to a remote Irish island and self-couple a la Emma Watson.

Can I just say that I adore this premise? It’s still a bit weird for me to come at 30 with a wedding on the horizon, since for a long time I was very much a Cleo myself (minus being paid to write about it — damn, would it have been nice to monetize those terrible OKCupid dates). Needless to say, I connected with her character straightaway.

Alas, Silver bends to genre peer pressure in this one and we must, apparently, spend some time in the head of hero Mack, an American who’s come to the very same Island to focus on a photography project and work through the fact that his marriage is over.

Both have reason to believe they’ve got Otter Lodge to themselves, since Cleo’s got a printed reservation and Mack’s cousin owns the place. Needles to say, they don’t start off at all on the best of terms.

Due to the fact that the boat only comes once a week and there are, conveniently for plot purposes, no other lodgings on the island, they make do and decide to share Otter Lodge until the next boat arrives.

What follows is a truly deep and profound story about two people getting to know one another at vulnerable turning points in their lives. Cleo has to decide what it means to be turning 30 and realize that she’s not only not in love with her Flamingo, but out of love with her busy London life, as well.

Mack, meanwhile, must unpack the fact that his wife asked him to move out and has begun dating someone new, while trying to handle it better than his own father navigated his divorce.

In this book, Silver once again allows the story to be about more than the romantic sparks between Cleo and Mack. They each have bigger things to worry about and to work through, and that is given the space it deserves without sacrificing the beautiful connection between these characters. The result is a powerful narrative about a woman coming into her own and finding a new life, and about a man working through the end of his marriage and sorting out how to be a father without being a husband to the mother of his children.

And, yes, it also happens to be the story of how those two people wound up falling in love with one another in the midst of it all.

A truly beautiful story that I thoroughly enjoyed, though I will say the ending felt a bit fast, perhaps only because I wanted to spend more time seeing the people that Cleo and Mack became. I recommend this to those who loved either of Silver’s previous works, and to fans of love stories that let their characters be human first, and love birds second.

This story made me laugh and cry, feel all the feels of hard decisions, believing in yourself and losing yourself to a love you feel in your soul. This story leaves you lighter, more optimistic and certainly a great primer for the holidays! You will smile long after the laughter and tears are done. Holidays are meant for growth as much as they are for celebration! You'll have all that here.

Josie Silver was one of my favorite authors I discovered last year. Loved both The Two Lives of Lydia Bird and One Night In December. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t up to standard. I did find it cute and just the light romance I’ve been longing for. It just took a minute to get there.

This book is an enemies to lovers romance between Cleo and Mack. Two complete strangers who end up lodging together on a cabin by the beach due to miscommunications in bookings.

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Unfortunately I was not as invested with the characters, their stories and chemistry. It took me a while to finish this book as it lacked build up on the romance aspect and was slightly predictable. I did like the ambiance of the Irish countryside, dual POV and the character development in both MCs. I still do recommend if you like light romances with an enemies to lovers trope! Complete with the grumpy/sunshine and one bed scenarios.
