Well this was a story that just warmed my heart! I I enjoyed the character's journeys and their personalities. I loved reading about everyone. The location was perfect too! Such a beautifully described place!

I have loved Josie Silver's other books, and this one did not disappoint. I think it might be the best one yet. I loved the strong and layered complexity to the characters. Even the secondary characters were well developed, and made you feel like you knew them. Her descriptions of the setting on a remote island were just beautiful and made you feel like you were there with Cleo - with the island almost becoming one of the characters. Great read that I didn't want to end!

One Night on the Island is a heart warming romance. Cleo is a London writer that writes about dating for a popular column. Her boss sends her to a remote Island in Ireland to have some self love and to "marry herself". Mack is an American that is going through a rough time as his wife wanted to separate and his dream of being happily married and living as a family is not happening. He is looking forward to some alone time in a cabin owned by a relative on the Island that his Grandmother was from. They arrive on the same day to discover that they are booked into the same cabin on the same dates. This is a remote island that only has a boat to the island once a week. This is the only lodging on the small island so they are forced to share the cabin. They decide to draw a chalk line to divide their space. Cleo and Mack are at odds with each other at first but then they start to form a bond. The islanders are very friendly and everyone knows every thing that happens on the island. This is a great book that I highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book so much more than I expected going into it! It was such a beautiful story of finding yourself and, consequently, finding love.

The setting of Salvation Island - a rocky, isolated, gorgeous Irish Island - was so well described that I could almost feel the salt spray from the ocean breeze, feel the rocky ground under my feet, and smell the earthy scent enveloping me. I would absolutely love to go somewhere as stunning as that!

Cleo was such a realistic character and the description of Mack made me wish he was real. The eventual heat and connection between them was perfect - I adored how Mack let Cleo be herself and make her own decisions without his input. The community of people on Salvation Island wrapping Cleo and Mack into their little inclusive family with love and accepting them as one of their own made this story so sweet.

While I've enjoyed other books by Silver, this one just never quite grabbed me. The set up was a little too much; they tried too hard to establish the "only one bed" troupe and I just didn't like Cleo. She comes off very selfish in a bad way at the beginning. While I softened to her by the end, I had a hard time shaking my first impression. I think we needed more background to fully understand her. Also, I am 100% about a woman being independent and happy with herself, but the "marrying oneself" plan just felt like too much. The ending was pretty ambiguous, while also being very predictable. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood to fully enjoy this book, but it didn't quite work for me.

I loved this book. The characters were all well developed and likeable. The story was engaging and heart warning.

This is written beautifully and not a romantic comedy ! It is deeper than that and more “realistic “ the book left me in tears . It’s so worth it ! Read it! I laughed I cried and I smiled! I connected to the characters .

Though I gave this boom 4 stars, I would rate it 4.5. As a fan of Josie Silver, the author makes the reader ask "will they?" many times throughout her work. "One Night on the Island" being one. The only reason I did not rate this 5 stars is because it took me a while to get into the book. Other than the slow(ish) start, I was hooked. I needed to know what would happen with Cleo and Mack. Silver paints the island of Slavation to be easily seen in my mind. It made me want to visit an island like this and hunker down for a few weeks. You get to know each character throughout Cleo and Mack's perspective, and each character is great in their own way.

The beginning may be slow, but it gives you the right amount of background to understand both main characters. I loved One Night in December and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, that I assumed I would also love this book. It reminded me much of The Holiday, with the enemies to lovers trope. It made me giggle, it made me smile, and it made me cry. I would highly recommend this to someone who loves a rom-com story.

A Heart warming story about two people thrown together, expecting to be alone to rediscover themselves, but instead, find out they needed each other to achieve that growth.

Josie Silver's books are not quick rom com fling reads. They are deep and a bit of a slow burn. You grow to love the characters and you ant them to find happiness.

The only reason for not receiving a full 5 starts is as for the at some times choppy story line. There would be great story building and then something happened so fast you had to read it again to make sure you read it right. Other than that, I'd recommend this book. Look for it this February 15th 2022 to get your own copy!

Mack and Cleo end up sharing a rental cottage on a remote Irish island in an effort to be alone and find themselves. Since they're not actually alone, but together in a small space, they have to learn to get alone and adjust their expectations. They meet warm and friendly islanders, see gorgeous scenery, and get to know each other and themselves.
While I really enjoyed the characters, and I'd love to spend a few weeks on that island, I found myself a little frustrated with the heavy-handed philosophy sprinkled throughout. These people took themselves awfully seriously. And Cleo came to the island to marry herself? I appreciated the commitment the character was trying to make to her emotional health, but I had a hard time with that one.

This is the third book I read by Josie Silver. I loved One Day in December and I have to say that book is still hard to beat.


The thing I love about this book is the author’s amazing writing describing Salvation Island. She did a good job painting the remote island that you actually feel you were there (smelling the sea water, feeling the damp cold weather and seeing the picturesque view). She made you feel sad, happy, excited and surprised as the story goes. She also created characters that are annoying at first but eventually grow into your heart. I also love how Chloe’s search for her flamingo led to finding and accepting herself.


The thing I wish was better was Mack and Chloe’s relationship. There was the banter but it was not memorable enough. The story started off slow and the chemistry I was looking for pretty much started in the middle. I know their relationship started off wrong with the current situation they are in but I wish there was more chapters dedicated seeing them grow together. I am still torn on how I feel about the ending. Part of me wanted Mack to try with his current relationship but then there was a part of me that fell micro in love with him that I wanted him to follow his heart and be happy.

Cleo escapes reality to complete a work assignment on a tiny Island in Ireland. Imagine her surprise when the cabin she has rented fir a month is inhabited by a distant relative of the owners. The Island is only reached by boat once a week, so she’s stuck with this stranger for better or worse. For awhile, Mack & Cleo simply coexist, both frustrated at the mere presence of the other. Over time, however, they both come to realize they will have a big impact on each other’s lives. The chapters were short, told in alternating voices. At times, it was confusing because the perspective switched so often and so quickly. Cleo’s fairy tale story seems a bit far fetched. I’ve read other books by this author and this, although entertaining, was not my favorite.

I absolutely devoured this book. Josie Silver is so talented in the way that she can so clearly tell a story from dual points of view without giving you whiplash. Quite the opposite, the story flows effortlessly and you truly feel like you are right there alongside Mack and Cleo. It’s not very often that a book can totally reel you in from the first page and this one certainly did. The characters each have their own flaws that keep them from truly connecting when first meet. While Cleo and Mack are forced to cohabitate in a tiny cabin on a small island in Ireland, there is little hope for them to be able to get through a week together, let alone form any real connection. I found myself truly rooting for the both of them. Nothing about their story felt forced or disingenuous. I can definitely see this book becoming one of my go-to comfort reads. Josie Silver’s books will forever have a special place on my shelf.

Two of the most relatable and appreciated plot points for me are that love is complicated and truly finding yourself starts later than you think. Most teenagers think they know it all, most young adults think they’ve felt it all but really all of those emotions are just a prelude to self discovery and this book is such a tribute to that! This book was a love letter to oneself and accepting love along the way can be such a significant part but not always the highlight or maybe important in more ways than one. Although there were a few slower parts to this book and the main character started off heavily unlikeable, I found myself highlighting so many quotable lines that are so relevant to a woman in her thirties, like myself. Will most definitely recommend!

I really liked this book! It’s an easy breezy summer read. I would definitely recommend this as a book for your next beach trip or flight.

Maybe a 3.25 or 3.5 read. When you mix a vacation romance with the forced proximity trope, you get this book! When a troubled photographer meets a free-spirited journalist, we find that sparks don’t fly immediately but it soon becomes a vacation to remember. I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between this plot and one of the key storylines in The Holiday film, although this was set in Ireland. The chemistry between Mack and Cleo seemed a little touch-and-go at times and I would have loved to feel more connected to the characters, but I loved the little village of Salvation. A light but fairly good read!

I had just come off of a REALLY disappointing dip in the romance novel pool, so admittedly my hopes were NOT high for this one but… I think this one will stay with me for a long time. As a non-married female in her 30s so much of this book hit home for me, and I found myself agonizingly pleased with how Cleo and Mack chose their respective paths. The heartache was so real, the longing so profound. I loved this book. Highly highly recommend!!!!

This was a very well written book that checked off a lot of boxes. It was heart breaking, sweet and funny. It had romance but also showed the characters as they tried to find themselves in the midst of confusing and messy times in their lives. I did find some parts to be a little slow moving and while I loved the dual POV, I wish it didn’t go from both characters not mentioning much about the other to they were desperately trying not to think of them. All in all it was an emotional and well written story that I’d recommend reading, especially if you’re in need of something to get you through a funk.

This is my second book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cleo is a dating columnist who is sent off on assignment to a remote island to spend her 30th birthday alone. Mack is a famous photographer from Boston who goes there to capture images. They are accidentally double booked into a small cottage. It’s funny and charming. I loved the lists of three things they shared with each other and what they learned about themselves and family while they were there.
