Hilarious and well written but not good for the classroom, which is the purpose of my review! Some students do love memoirs but this is too mature for middle school.

Effervescent, intimate, and funny. I was immediately drawn to the cover and description of This Might Be Too Personal, and as an occasional reader of New York Magazines “The Sex Diaries”, I knew I had to read it. I am glad I did because I had a great time!

The essays unfold in chronological order and though I found the earlier stories featuring casual dating more enticing and fun to read about as a bystander, it was wonderful to experience Alyssa’s growth and follow along as her primary interests and life goals shift though her writing.

I recommend this to readers of “The Sex Diaries”, anyone interested in reading about love, the woes and wonders dating (in New York and LA and a smattering of other cities), and in the journey to becoming a “Single Mother by Choice.”

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

If you enjoy Alyssa Shelasky’s column in The Cut you will really enjoy her book of essays. Each chapter is a standalone piece but they all weave together to tell her story of becoming a single mother and meeting her partner. Alyssa is raw and unfiltered in her writing. Some criticism will always be that she is privileged woman but as a New Yorker I can relate to her city experiences.

Absolutely adored this collection of short stories. I find myself wanting to go back and read the cooking memoir.

I am so happy the author found the happiness she wasn’t sure she would find at the beginning.

This was a great read! I very much enjoyed her perspective. I had not read this offer prior to this book, but I wouldn't hesitate to seek out her work now. This is a great book for working women or women wanting to better themselves. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Full of twists and turns. A real life Carrie Bradshaw tells her stories of living in NYC and dealing with real life celebrities. Hilarious and heartbreaking. Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a fun, easy memoir. Shelasky is an often described “real life Carrie Bradshaw” who wants to live the life of an artist. This memoir is a series of short stories about the author’s life, as she tries to find love and success in a variety of cities with a variety of partners. Is it a bit self indulgent? Sure! (Aren’t we all sometimes?) If you read her Sex Diaries, or if you are a Sex and the City fan, you’ll like this one. Thanks to netgalley and to St. Martin’s Press for the ARC!

This is a fun book! It’s like reading my best friends diary. Like hearing her side of events that I remember too. Although, I feel like some of the stories were just stories that were FOR her friends. Not for an audience that doesn’t know the author or care about her. The stories had some details but were just quick stories.

Would I recommend it to others??? Maybe. Would I want to hang with this author? DEFINITELY.

This Might Be Too Personal may actually be too personal for some, but it’s a great read with lots of juiciness to it. The story was a collection of stories or essays that chronicles Alyssa’s life as a writer, woman, and fearless go-getter. I enjoyed the boss lady vibes and honesty that shone through.

A touching memoir and collection of stories making up Alyssa Shelasky’s life. Alyssa has a way of writing to make the reader feel that they are a few drinks in, hearing all of the raunchy and soul-crushing stories you only share with your closest friends. I laughed, I cried (thank you to the surprise Avett Brothers reference), my inner woman and mother aches for her, I felt the second-hand embarrassment. What a touching collection of stories leading us to present day. I’ve ended the book feeling like Alyssa is a close friend and she is gifted in making readers connect with everything she says.

I found this book humorous and enjoyable but ultimately reveals a really personal journey that is delightful to read. It's an emotional experience.

Thanks #netgalley for the preview of Alyssa Shelasky's latest book! Shelasky's candor and unapologetic sense of self pulls you in from the first page. Written more like a collection of chronological essays as opposed to one complete narrative, each chapter takes you on a new journey- some about lovers, some about mistakes, some about growth. Shelasky speaks to the reader like a friend, divulging vulnerable moments like going through an abortion, losing love, and figuring out what she really wants in life. This was a fast read for me, and I can't wait to go back to read Apron Anxiety to get more of Shelasky's fun writing.

This was like chatting with your best friend and can be beat enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book and would recommend it to my female friends who are looking to read a fun memoir for Nonfiction November!

I enjoyed the candid tone and moments of humor in this book**. It felt very much like a good friend confiding in you about her life. However, I did't enjoy the short essay style of the book. At the end of each chapter, I felt like I wanted more depth. Still would recommend if you want a quick read!

** Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book.

Journalist and author Alyssa Shelasky writes about her decision to have a child through anonymous sperm donation. Shortly after the birth of her daughter, she meets the man with whom she will live and love enough to have a 2nd child with.

The chapters are short, and the journey from her independent Single Mother By Choice status to being partnered with a kind man with an extended family is well-written.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy of this fun read.

This collection of essays was funny, sad, and a whole bucket full of emotions. Alyssa shares her relationship struggles and successes, her pursuit to be a mother in they way she saw fit and then how to date with a child as a single parent. I appreciated her honesty when discussing relationships that didn't work out or how her career had its struggles. But her ultimate joy and accomplishment is her daughter, and eventually the family she created in her own way. I felt hope in her journey, never give up and pursue what you want, not what society expects.

This book is hilarious! I love every store she shares, relate to her openness and honesty, and feel all of her emotions alongside her. If you are looking for a fun book to enjoy, a gift for a friend, or a book you can read in short moments you will love this book! I couldn’t put it down.

This Might Be Too Personal by Alyssa Shelasky showcases the author's delightfully wicked and irreverent sense of humour, while at the same time exposing a vulnerability and tender underbelly that is not often seen. Yes, there are lots of laugh out loud moments, and you will not be disappointed if that was what drew you to this title, but I was also gratified to learn of Alyssa's gritty determination to live a wholly authentic life on her own terms. These are personal, unfiltered musings that will resonate with many, and you will want to claim a front row seat.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC.

This Might Be Too Personal by Alyssa Shelasky was delightful and fun! Her writing style makes you feel like you’ve been best friends for years! Her stories were surprising and unexpectedly insightful. Would not recommend to your southern mom, grandma or aunt unless they happen to be way cooler than mine.
