While there are definitely plot twists and a few (predictable) surprises, the book reads more romance than thriller. This showed up under mystery/thriller and I would say was just Miscategorized. Appreciated the NYC and CT references having lived in both. And the 'villain' was pretty devious which I enjoyed.

This was one of my most anticipated books of 2022 and maybe because of that I'm a little bit disappointed.

If you know me you know thriller is one of my favorite genres and don't get me wrong this is not a bad book. However I believe it was just mis-labeled/marketed.

It wasn't really mystery or thriller- maybe more like a domestic fiction?

There were some moments that caught me off guard and because of that I want to give Carola Lovering one more shot. I just realized I have the physical copy of Too Good to be True and will most likely get to that soon.

Even though it didn't turn out the way I expected I'm still grateful that I get to read this book earlier than the publication date- huge thanks to NetGalley!

I just finished Can’t Look Away last night and I absolutely loved it! Not only that, but it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It kept me so interested, that I had a difficult time putting it down. The Author does an amazing job with character building. I felt myself falling just as in love with Jake & Molly, as they did with each other.

I noticed some readers had a difficult time with the changing POV’s, which is understandable, but maybe this doesn’t bother me since I’ve read so many books in this style. I actually tend to enjoy this when I’m so attached to the characters, as I feel like it gives me more insight into their background and individual stories.

Sabrina’s POV did tend to feel out of place at times, but I think this was necessary for all the moving parts of the story to work together. Overall, I truly enjoyed this book and think it would make a great movie or miniseries!!!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review Can’t Let Go!

This is my second thriller in a row, and I just realized all 3 books I’ve read so far this month have chapters in different POV. Who is she?!

I really liked this book, but didn’t enjoy the different POV in this one. I LOVED Molly and Jake’s chapters, but Sabrina’s felt jarringly different. Going from 3rd to 1st person, made it feel like a completely different book, and honestly took me a minute to figure out what I was reading. Though maybe that was intentional given Sabrina’s role. That’s all I’ll say about that. 😉

This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Twisty tale is told through multiple POVs, flashbacks, and a very entangled web of relationships. It's definitely more of a domestic suspense/drama than a thriller, but still very engaging and worth the read. There was a plot thread about an ex that I was hoping led somewhere, but never did.

ARC from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Yoooooooooo this book was ridic. I realized halfway through I had read another book by this author and it had the same twisty weirdness that also ended in a "oh okay well that happened" aspect, so even as we went super high and super "wtf??"-y, I knew that the good times would end.

I really liked that we got to see all aspects of the characters. I loved that we got the POV into Sabrina's head because whew girl, no man is worth all of that!

But overall, this is one of those reads that feel like popcorn. You keep grabbing at more, trying to figure out how it ends. You feel a little empty when it's over (you should have had a real dinner!) but it was entertaining while it lasts.

A fairly quick read, that was pretty enjoyable so... yeah! I liked it.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Can't Look Away is another well written and unputdownable book by Carola Lovering. I found it to be intriguing, a tad emotional, and had a good enough mystery to keep me invested. I look forward to more of her books!

4.5 — WOW what a surprise! This was messy, sweet, suspenseful, and a heck of a good time!

Told in alternating chapters from the present day and then from the beginning of Molly and Jake’s relationship. I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed reading the Molly and Jake chapters, because it ended up being a a surprisingly real-feeling romance. Molly and Jake are messy and selfish, not always making the best decisions but you could feel how much they loved each other underneath.

I love books where pretty much all of the characters are walking around making these terrible decisions and trying to come back from them, and that is true for every single one of these characters. The “obsession” angle always hooks me too and this had plenty of that.

I will say that this doesn’t completely fit the bill of a thriller, although we have someone from the past trying to worm their way into Molly’s life and we know it won’t end well. There is a little twist that was pretty obvious and on the whole this wasn’t technically thrilling. But it worked so well on everything else it was doing that this didn’t really matter to me.

This makes me want to go read everything else this author has written!

I received an eARC via Netgalley from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really good book!! Pulled me in right from the beginning. It's told from multiple POVs and in two timelines. We first meet Molly in 2013, a 23-year-old New Yorker and aspiring writer who meets Jake Danner, the lead singer of a band. We then jump to 2022 where Molly is now older, living in a small town, is married to a man named Hunter, and has a 5-year old daughter.

We also meet Sabrina, who Molly becomes close friends with in the present timeline but for nefarious reasons.

I enjoyed the relationships and how the characters came together. It was an enjoyable book that I'd recommend to friends! It was a slow burn at first but after awhile I couldn't put it down. It's written in such a way you just need to know what happens next.

One of my criticisms is the marketing of this book. It really doesn't feel like a thriller, or even a mystery. It's more of a drama with some twists. And don't get me wrong, the writing was GREAT but it did not have the suspense that thrillers bring.

I enjoyed this book enough to see it through to the end. I liked the premise of the plot and the pacing of the storyline. I did find Molly to be a bit one dimensional and had trouble relating to her character. On the other hand I felt that Sabrina's character was more complex and relatable.

This was a really good book. Molly Diamond is the main character who falls for Jake Danner. Who is a lead singer of a band.
Years later she is married to Hunter. She meets and befriends Sabrina. Who has her own agenda with Molly. This has some twists.

This is my third novel by this author and I was not disappointed. In previous books there is usually a twist or a surprise in the story so I was expecting that in this book. She did a good job of still taking the story to unexpected places.
I enjoyed the characters and once you get caught up in this tale you don’t want to put it down. One negative was that the villain character was bit too crazy for my liking and felt a bit unrealistic. But the main couple, child, and friend couples were well drawn out. I think this should be a spring pick for book clubs if you want a domestic drama with a hint of risk lurking. 4 Stars and another solid book by Carola Lovering. Thank you #netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5

quick read told from a few different POV and a few different periods of time. definitely twisty, turny, full of secrets and suspense. i enjoyed the first half of the book more than second half, which is rare. the ending has all the answered questions that one would want, but it felt too neat to me after the messy ride of a story we were on. i think this is one of those books that i would have liked to have ended open ended and up for the reader to figure out.

the reading was very engaging. i was hooked throughout all of the book and was so interested to see how things played out.

Emotionally charged. Gripping from the very first chapter. It’s heartwarming, it’s crushing, it’s beautiful and complex…”Can’t Look Away” is a knockout. If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself lost in thought for quite awhile after turning the last page. Highly recommend! (Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!)

4.5 stars

In Can't Look Away we follow Molly and Jake in their early 20's while they try to navigate their relationship as Jake is an up and coming rock star. We also follow Molly and Jake in the present day when they are suddenly brought back into each other's lives.

This is my first book by this author and won't be my last. Lovering's writing really did it for me with this one. I enjoyed the New York setting a lot. Unfortunately, the plot fell a little flat. This is being marketed as a thriller and it wasn't that. I felt as though this was more of a true drama. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't expecting a thriller. The twists were clever and I really liked most of the characters.

This novel follows the love of Molly and famous frontman Jake Danner. They fall in love in an instant and move fairly quickly in their love life. Molly is head over heels with Jake except when he goes on tour, when he always is ignoring her and not answering phone calls. This leads to a split and makes Molly decide to go for the practical and reliable Hunter. When Hunter and Molly settle in Flynn Cove, a super wealthy town in Connecticut Molly befriends Sabrina who, unbeknownst to Molly is now married to Jake. As the two couples start being friends the past starts being revealed. A fun read that is perfect for a pool day!

Can't Look Away was a fun thriller about the one that got away: Molly dates Jake for a bit and he writes a hit song about her. They break up and wonder about each other. Years later they end up in the same tiny affluent suburb and Jake's wife befriends Molly.

This one was full of twists and secrets and I ate it up happily! ✰✰✰

Would recommend for fans of domestic thrillers.
