I am familiar with the Mitford Sisters and especially the one in this book Jessica as she lived near where I live and wrote the fascinating book "The American Way of Death" an expose' of the funeral industry.
I was hoping to be gripped by this book and, although, much of it was enjoyable much of it was slogging through.
It could have been a great book with judicious editing.
The husband and wife detective team of Louisa and Guy is an interesting concept and I liked that she kept her maiden name (a woman ahead of her time).
There are some twists and turns and the ending is interesting.

Thanks to NetGalley & St Martin's Press for the ARC copy of The Mitford Vanishing. Having read the others in the series, I was looking forward to catching up.
Louisa is contacted by Nancy MItford to help find sister Jessica, who has run off with a cousin. At the same time, another woman contacts Lousia to find her missing sister, presumed dead. Both stories end up twisting and combining at points.
The story was ok, I found it a bit "off" that Louisa & Guy up & leave their daughter with a family friend for days at a time. It started that her mother-in-law was watching Maisie, but that appeared to not happen much. Louisa & Guy are a team, yet not, as she still doesn't trust him and vice versa. Withholding evidence was a bit odd.
The story moves along, slogs & then ends. The backstory at the end was interesting. I have hopes that the next story will feel more complete.

The Mitford Vanishing by Jessica Fellowes is the fifth book in the Mitford Murders series. Although I have not read the previous books I am familiar with the Mitford sisters and had no trouble reading this as a standalone. The attention to the political turmoil of the times was well presented.
Overall I found this book to be enjoyable, but I will say that my feelings were not consistent. I loved the beginning and flew right through it. The middle got a bit bogged down and the ending felt anticlimactic to me.
I am interested in reading the other books in this series, as well as more of the books written by Mitfords
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur books for the ARC of this boom.

I haven't read the prior books, so that may be why I struggled with this one. I did like the characters, for the most part, but I felt they could've been a bit more developed. The storyline fell a bit flat for me.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Jessica Fellowes for this ARC which I was hoping to review. Having read the prior four books twice each, it was not exactly what I expected but certainly mostly enjoyable.

Possibly it is just me but I did have trouble following such a complex plot, although it did tie together nicely at the end..

Additionally I very much enjoyed the very fine Postscript , Who's Who and Historical Notes.

I am a huge fan of the quirky Mitford girls and have read many of their books. Perhaps that contributed to my disappointment in this historical novel.

The subject matter was serious, but there still could be room for a bit more “ color” in the characterization of the Mitfords. I felt like everything was flat: the characters, the story, and the setting. Even the political climate that played such an important role in the book lacked passion.

This was a book I was prepared to enjoy, but it was a slog for me.

Netgalley provided me a complimentary e-galley in exchange for a candid review.
