A big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This book is part of a series. It reads okay as a stand alone. I would suggest reading them in order. This is I believe the finale in this series. For me, there are a lot of names thrown at you and it is a bit convoluted. Luckily I have read a few of the others so I knew sort of what was going on. There were a few parts that were slow for me, I also felt it was almost to much. I flat out just liked the main characters Angelika and Airk-they saw things in each other that others failed to see. Overall a good read. 3.5 stars

Dragon and Phoenix? Two creatures that I love as characters.😁

In this last installment of the Inferno Rising series, Airk should be the rightful King of White Dragon but he spent millennium imprisoned by the false King. So when he escaped the first thing on his mind was to get a revenge but he came across with the beautiful and kind-hearted Angelica Amon.

The only phoenix who hasn't have powers.

It is interesting on how this unlikely couple actually clicked and understand each others deficiencies.

Definitely a great way to end the series because most of the characters from the previous three stories were present. 🎉

Thank you very much to Miss Riki Cleveland of Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC! 💗

"I do not fear you Arik Azdajah. Any part of you."

Angelika Amon, a dormant Phoenix refuses to stand on the sidelines, while her sisters and their dragon King husbands attempt to dethrone Pytherios, the High King. Ark Azdajah, a white dragon shifter, and rightful King to the White Dragon Clan fears that his dragon is feral, and can't be trusted not to harm others.. Angelika, and Ark are strongly attracted to each other, and Angel suggest a Mating to show a united front to the White Clan. Arik refuses fearing that his dragon is to unpredictable, even though every time he's near Angel, his dragon screams, "Mine!". What follows is plot within plot, betrayals, action packed battles scenes, as these two broken souls accept who they are, and triumph in the end to become who they're ment to be.

Airk and Angelika's story was so steamy and with a great plot. The world-building of the series is one I really liked. I am loving the characters in the series. There is so much going on within each book that will capture you from the start. I so wished to hear them on audio someday. I love dragon shifter stories and this series is one I would totally recommend.

This was a great read that complemented the first 3 books. It had the same great world and the characters still managed to grow during this book.
Well worth the read.

Wow 😮! I am absolutely speechless right now. This book absolutely blew me away. Abigail Owens wrapped this series up in a big beautiful bow. Truly magnificent.

The last of the four Phoenixes, Angelicka believes herself to be dormant. Not showing any powers as her sisters have, she is vulnerable. She tires of being left out of the fight.

Arik is scared of the shift. Having lived most his life in captivity, unable to shift has taught him some control. But his dragon is feral. All the control he has over his dragon gets harder and harder the more time he spends around Angelika.

The war against the rotting king is at its worst. The fake High King seems to be one step ahead at all times. It will take a miracle to defeat him. Will Arik and Angelika be the answer to win the war? Or will the Phoenixes die trying?

In this stunning conclusion we discover a lot. The impossible seems possible, but be prepared, as there is much more death and destruction in this one. A roller coaster of emotions, this book will have up you laughing one minute and crying the next.

Abigail did an amazing job wrapping this series up. She tied up all the loose ends and giving her readers any answers to some lingering questions. Her writing in this book is spot on and done perfectly. The world she created with these amazing creatures was beautiful and oh so addictive.

Overall this book was absolutely amazing! By far surpassing my expectations for the end. This story has so much emotion and powerful punches! The characters are beautiful and intriguing. The story is nonstop adventure that has you on the edge of your seat the entire way. Not only are her characters strong and independent, they are very smart and intuitive.

I will sign off with a Bravo for Ms. Owens. Bravo Bravo 👏

Contrarily to her sisters, Angelika doesn’t have any power. In spite of her simple human status, I found her as determined and eager to help in the battle against Pytheios. She knows how to speak to people, even if she tends to see mostly the good in them. That’s how she first takes an interest in the hero that everyone looks suspiciously at, and that’s probably also why she accepts his shitty behavior toward her for so long, even making him excuses.

Airk spent several centuries caged and tortured, and since he’s been freed by the heroine of the second volume he lives on the fringe of the dragons, accepted but not included. He has trouble controlling his dragon that he never lets out, and he has only one wish: have revenge or die trying. He’s very attracted to the heroine, and for a very long time (too long) he blows hot and cold, including during a sex scene where he flees in the middle because he feels he’s losing control of his dragon (actually it’s the only scene where his reaction seemed understandable to me). He will need to ear Angelika say she gives up and is ready to choose another mate, and one of her sisters say she’s had a vision of them both after the mating, to finally yield. But once the mating is done, he’s attentive and says lots of sweet words (almost too sweet) – by the way one of his brothers-in-law tells him to stop in fear of the sisters expecting the same from their respective mates.

As for the plot, for a good half of the book nothing really happens apart from Angelika and Airk sniffing around each other. Then we see the situation change, we learn the secret of the bad guy’s mate, and there’s a mega final battle in which other supernatural creatures intervene in one way or another. An unexpected event uses at last the power usually associated to phoenix, and another one seals the fate of the four sisters in a way I wasn’t expecting. Then something in the epilogue left me puzzled, but I won’t say more in order not to spoil anything.

However I found this book concluded the story arc in a satisfying way in many ways, and I had a very good reading time with the whole series. I still have some volumes in the parallel series to read to enjoy Abigail Owen’s dragons as I began it in the middle.

It has been awhile since I have read paranormal that centers around either of what is in this one. Arik was a tortured soul, a prisoner who managed to escape. But this king feels not good for anything. Angelika feels also that she is good for nothing, she has no powers. They get together for political reasons, since either think they do not have what they need. Regardless what they think maybe they are wrong? Turn the pages to find out the answer to that one but becareful of the heat.

The last of the Inferno Rising series and it's a hot read in lots of ways! This book features Angelika the last unmated phoenix and Airk a white dragon shifter that cant shift. I have to admit I called Airk Eric in my head!

The fight is reaching a head and everyone is in danger and all the mated phoenix and dragons are coming together to fight the baddie. Angelika decides she and Airk should Mate to help the battle.

Airk is very standoffish to begin with. Angelika isn't giving in she can see how good they could be together. The battle we know is coming and we can almost guarantee Angelika will get her wish with Airk BUT oh my we have to wait a while - Airks defenses need some breaking down.

Along with the fighting and some unexpected occurrences we get to hear from the previous main characthers.

The epilogue was wonderful and completed the series perfectly.

The last book in this wonderful series. I’m happy I’ve read it, but I’m sad that this amazing journey is over!
You could read this story without reading the previous books, but there is so much going on throughout the series, it would definitely give you a better grasp on what’s going on.

In the last book we get a snippet of how things will go with Arik and Angelika, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride!!

Angelika is tired of being useless! Hidden away from everyone, but especially the high king (he wants the last Phoenix to retain his throne) she needs to feel useful. She wants to help bring down the dragon that killed her parents and enslaved the man she’s falling in love with….

Being free after being held captive by the High King Py for centuries should have been a joyous time for Arik, to see the blue sky without bars should have made him smile. But a feral dragon lived inside him (this was caused by the centuries of incarceration) they battle on a daily basis, he can’t let him out as Arik is positive the dragon would kill without distinguishing friend from foe!

Forming an alliance with Arik makes perfect sense to Angelika, they could persuade the White Dragon Clan to defect to their side and abandon the High King.
Py always seems to have the upper hand in battles, is it because of numbers (white, red and green dragons follow him) so they need to even up the score.
But convincing the stubborn white dragon of that fact is proving difficult for Angelika!
With Arik it was one step forward, six steps back!!
We all know he wants her, she’s made it clear she wants him. So let’s get it going Arik!!

I absolutely loved this one, we have danger, intrigue, twists and battles. We have a stubborn white dragon afraid to get close to the only woman that has held his and his dragon’s interest. And we have the youngest of the four Phoenix sisters trying to find her place in this dangerous world!
And we have so much passion and romance between the two main characters that it almost steamed my glasses up🤓
Drawing in the sisters and their mates, we even get to catch up with a powerful wizard and his mate (book)
The author drew up all the loose ends and left nothing dangling. All avenues were explored and all allies were included.

So can Angelika and Arik convince the white dragons to rebel against Py?
Can they really defeat him with a defective dragon and a useless Phoenix?

And the ending….
It just had to be that way 🤍🐉 🤍

I am so so sooo sad to finally read the last Pheonix book.

Abigail Owen is a utter genius, I have loved this series since the beginning and ever since book two I've been so excited to read Angelika's book and then in book three we got to see more of Airk? Ahhh yes please!

This was a slow burn romance but once I devoured all the same. It was great to see Airk fight his own inner demons and finally be able to connect with people and have friends to call his own. My heart broke for his internal struggle but Owen did a wonderful job of showing the struggles with mental health. Angelika's stubborn fire was something that kept me gripped all the way through the book, throughout the series she has been painted as the fragile phoenix with no powers and thus she has always been kept safe. However her personality was something else all together, she was feisty, smart and went after whatever she set her mind to with a undivided focus.

I will eagerly await whatever Abigail writes next!

What a great way to end the Inferno Rising series. Airk and Angelika are my favorite couple of the series, because I love a good underdog story. Also, they both break my heart, but in a totally good way.
There’s a lot going on in this book, too much to put into a review, while being mindful of spoilers. For fans of Abigail Owens, we are also treated to cameos from characters in other series…specifically from Brimstone, Inc and Fire’s Edge. I love little Easter eggs within books!
And while I recommend reading the series from the beginning, if a reader did pick up this book without reading the previous ones, I think it’d be okay. There’s enough background info to make sense of it all.
I’m sorry the series is ending, but I’m very satisfied how all the pieces fit together and where Airk and Angelika end up.

such a good book. I have loved every book from this series. Each book is connected but different in its own way.

WOW! WOW! WOW! How to review this final book in the series without giving away spoilers... It was an epic conclusion! All I can say is it exceeded my expectations! And both of them are so much more that they seem! We are treated with visitations from many of the characters in the spin-off connected series that ties EVERYTHING together. I came into this series late, didn't realize that Fire's Edge series & Brimstone Inc. series were connected to this series. There's a reading order at Abigail's site and it would be awesome to read through it from the beginning.

Airk Azelajan, son of the White Clan's former King, spent centuries in Pytheios' dungeon. After witnessing Pytheios' murdering of so many royals he imprisoned Airk because of a prophesy that whoever killed him would soon be turned to ash. He had to keep his dragon caged inside him since he couldn't allow himself to shift in prison, and now it's feral and must remain caged. Airk has incredible control to keep the raging dragon inside. With the help of traitor inside the prison and a phoenix he escapes prison. Everyone is afraid of his potential of going uncontrollable.

Angelika Amon is the last of the phoenix sisters unmated. She is a null, has shown no phoenix powers whatsoever and everyone has been protecting her her whole life. She's determined she's of value to the taking down of Pytheios and sets out to propose a mating between her and Airk, who is the son of the last rightful White Clan King. Airk is dead set against it because of his fear of controlling his dragon side. He knows he'll never mate and never be capable of being king as he's so broken. But his dragon is drawn to Angelika like a magnet. This story is their adventures into trying to bring Pytheios down and their eventual love story. It was epic!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Airk Azdajah was held captive by the pretender to the throne, High King Pytheios, for five hundred years. He was unable to shift to his dragon form for all that time which is untenable for a dragon. Even though he finally escaped with one of the phoenix’s help, Airk remains a prisoner of his own body because where he to shift now, he would become a feral dragon bent on death and destruction. The only reason Airk survived is because the evil king was afraid of a prophecy stating anyone who killed Airk would burn up.

Angelika Amon is the only one of her sisters still unmated. What really upsets Angelika is that whatever powers she might have remain dormant so she feels less than useless. She thinks perhaps mating Airk would help them both out enabling each to reach the stymied powers. Angelika knows how critical the time is with all dragons on both sides ready to fight to win all. Since Pytheios not only stole the throne, but killed her parents, Angelika has a burning desire to finally defeat the Rotting King as he is known. Airk has a low opinion of himself and his capabilities so when Angelika suggests they mate to help his White Dragon Clan, he rejects everything she has to offer despite being very attracted to her.

Angelika knows they could make a difference together; however, Airk's supreme stubbornness holds them back. Angelika has been hiding all her life, now she is done. While her powers are dormant, her good heart and winning ways are used to help turn dragons to their cause. As they journey throughout the White Clan territories trying to win supporters, Airk begins to see that all is not lost and just maybe Angelika is his fated mate.

This is the fourth and final book in the Inferno Rising series. This one has quite of bit of angsty angst because Airk has been so damaged by his captivity he cannot see a way into the light no matter what Angelika and the other dragons tell him. Airk takes obstinacy and a short-sighted view to new heights. By the time he finally agrees to the mating, it may be too late to save the women who would save him. What Angelika's powers are will come as quite a surprise. Since this is the last story, a lot of plot lines come to fruition with the other phoenixes and their Dragon Kings, friends, foes, and the ultimate battle for supremacy.

Airk spent 500 years locked in a dungeon being tortured and wasn't able to shift into his dragon. But now that he's been rescued and is a prisoner no more, his dragon is feral and dangerous so he can't shift and let the monster out even now. Airk is the rightful king of the white dragon clan but most people are either scared of him, don't believe he is who he says he is or won't go against Pytheios.

Angelika is a phoenix shifter like her sisters but she isn't able to shift and has no powers so she offers to mate Airk out of a sense of duty so Airk would have some leverage to get people to follow him. Airk says no though and even though Angelika has feelings for him, she doesn't let that stop her from trying to change his mind.

Because Airk feels like he's dangerous and can't shift, he doesn't plan to take on a mate but Angelika is persistent and they both have feelings for each other. Because she doesn't give up trying to help him and wanting to show others that she can be of use as well, they are thrown together on many occasions, getting to know each other better. Airk has feelings for her but is afraid his dragon will take over and hurt or kill her even though his dragon feels protective and content around her.

Airk was frustrating at times though because he said no to her so many times so I was happy that she didn't give up and kept going after what she wanted. So Airk tries to talk some of the white clan into turning their support away from Pytheios and Angelika helps him. It was nice to watch them get closer and it was wonderful to see the characters from the other books make an appearance in this one as well.

This is the 4th book in the Inferno Rising series and I would definitely suggest you read this series in order for it to make more sense. This book also wraps up this series in such a magnificent way even though I was sad to see it come to an end.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thought and opinions are my own.

The Cursed King is the final book in the author’s Inferno Rising series. Once upon a time, I said I wasn’t a huge fan of paranormal romance/suspense books, except for the Twilight series. But Abigail Owen has quickly changed my mind. I found myself enjoying The Traitor so much, I went back to the very beginning of the Fire’s Edge series and read all the way through this book in less than a week. I ultimately read this one in one day (and way too late into the night so that I didn’t have to put it down!).

The Cursed King is full of heart-pounding action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, heart-wrenching emotion, and intense chemistry between the hero and heroine. Airk had my heart from the first moment he appeared in the series. And Angelika is his complete opposite except when it comes to strength. And these two have it in spades, even though she has no powers. The book sucked me in from page one, with action and emotion hitting me from all sides. Tears were shed, and curse words wanted to fly out of my mouth (but did not because my sleeping hubs would have been so mad!) several times throughout the story, as it’s truly an emotional rollercoaster ride. It’s a stunning conclusion to a heart-pounding series, and I’m so sad to see it end.

This series is just so much fun to read! The Cursed King is another great installment. Dragon shifters, phoenixes, underdogs, combat, family - it’s just got it all!

Arik, who was freed from a hellish life in prison for hundreds of years, and Angelika, the phoenix with no phoenix abilities. They’ve been through more than is fathomable. Arik comes out of it quiet and dark. Angelika somehow is light personified. How she can be so sweet is a wonder especially to Arik. The attraction between the two is immediate but can they get through all the crap in their heads to create theirHEA? Can Arik ever be a true contributor to the dragon community if he can’t shift for risking letting out a feral dragon? What use is a phoenix with no abilities? Or can love maybe save them and their kind?

As with the previous books the Rotting King is back trying to put down the insurrection of dragons led by Angelika’s sisters and their mates. There’s a lot of intense battling. There’s also community, family and earth shattering changes to the traditional roles within the clans. All this leads to a very satisfying resolution to this centuries old fight.

Owen gives us an amazingly detailed world with very interesting characters. I was on the verge of annoyed with how long it takes Arik and Angelika to find their true selves but once it happened, it was so good. The future indeed looks bright for our friends from Inferno Rising.

Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC.

Loved loved loved this book!

I enjoy the angsty will they, won't they mixed with I must save the world! I really enjoyed this story and was often surprised by the twists and turns it took.

I only had one issue and that was at times I found some of the world-building, character relationships and ages a little confusing at times. But overall this is such a good book and a great read!

What a great final book in this series - the Author manages to pull together all the threads that have run through the previous books into one brilliant whole .

Angelika Amon is the last unmated Phoenix , her sisters happily married to their Dragons ............. her problem is that her powers are dormant ....... feeling useless she offers herself , as a mate and political solution , to the rightful White Dragon King - Arik .
Arik Azdajah has finally escaped imprisonment and torture , held for hundreds of yours by Pytheios , unable to shift his dragon was feral , a danger to all around .
It is only when Pytheios makes a move to capture Angelika that they realise that only by working together , will not only they survive , but also all the other Dragon Kings and their mates too .
This is a fight for survival , for Pytheious is without mercy - just who will die for the sake of others ? Who will
burn , who will rise from the ashes ?

This is a thoroughly enjoyable finale to this series ............ full of love and loss and battles for survival
I look forward to reading more from the Author in the future
