Ahh. This book took me to my happy place. Definitely something that took me back to the first time I saw the first episode of Buffy. I loved all the backstories and reliving the Buffy and Angel romance. Still not over the Kendra.. Still not over Angel and Buffy. Also i enjoyed the writing - you could tell the author was a lover of the show.

I was wanting more from this but still enjoyed reading it. I enjoyed the discussion on Joss Whedon but felt there could have been more. I loved the discussion about race and homosexuality in the series. The interviews were fun and added a lot. I loved the chapters on music and fashion regarding the show. And especially the musical episode.

This felt more like a Love Letter, while I was wanting a deep dive. I think this could have been structured better and maybe that would have made it even more successful.

A great collection of interview with the people responsible for making Buffy, and filled with many other insights from the author

Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born by Evan Ross Katz is a deep dive into the cult classic 90s (and my personal favorite) tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The comradery, the hardships (ahem, Joss Whedon) seen through the interviews of the cast was a nice touch. The interviews mixed with cultural references and the authors absolute love for buffy was so fun to read.

It felt very nostalgic for me - definitely would recommend to any fan of Buffy/Angel.

As someone who re-wachtes Buffy the Vampire Slayer oh so often and always gets obsessed as if it the first time I'm seeing the show, this book is a dream come true! A huge thank you for Evan Ross Katz for bringing such a master piece in my life. I am in awe of the way he was able to dive deep into the world of Buffy. The shows stands for so many things and has done such an incredible job portraying hardships, friendships and life in general, that I was afraid that this book might not be able to capture that essence. I was absolutely wrong, Evan Ross Katz went beyond my expectation and I enjoyed every page!

Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts by Evan Ross Katz is an analysis of the tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer with interviews from not only some of the actors and actresses on set but also others who had participated in bringing life to the show. The book gives a perspective on things that went on behind the scenes.
There is a lot of content discussing the creator of the series, Joss Wheden, and some of the allegations around him, and how he acted while on set.
There were aspects of the book that seemed to fall short for me, as well as feeling a bit disjointed, there were others that felt underdeveloped.
It's an interesting book and can be enjoyable for Buffy fans.

The author, Evan Ross Katz, had listed at one point a bunch of shows that referenced Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he'd mentioned Yu-Gi-Oh. I did a search on Buffy references in shows and the show Yu-Gi-Oh wasn't listed as having a reference, but Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged did. I am wondering if that is what the writer is referring to (I binge watch Yu-Gi-Oh at least once a month and I don't recall a Buffy reference, but that could be on me). If Yu-Ii-Oh Abridged is what he is referring to, I'm wondering why he didn't include the abridged part so people didn't end up confused.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I am a fan of anything in the Buffyverse. When I saw this book I had to get my hands on it. I enjoyed the conversations with the cast and writers. It gave a better perspective of what makes the show so important to people than as well as now. It makes me want to go back and watch all seven seasons again just to relive it.

I thought the first half of this book was wonderful and it gave me fond memories of watching Buffy. The second half was hit and miss for me with more misses. All in all, it was a bit of a disappointment.

This book gets both its stars for the nostalgia factor because the writing isn’t good at all. I was expecting something more analytical & insightful, but much of this book reads more like a behind the scenes exposé. The author relies too heavily on previously published interviews from magazines & other articles instead of providing his own thoughts. He also mentions many shows & movies that supposedly influenced Buffy, except Buffy came first. His admiration for Sarah Michelle Gellar rapidly reaches a point where it feels more like an uncomfortable obsession.

This is not what I thought it was going to be honestly. If you love Buffy though, you'll probably want to give this a try.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette books for the ARC of this!

As a huge Buffy fan, feeling nostalgic for all the new fiction and comics coming out in this universe, I was so excited to see this non-fiction look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It started off a little rocky when I read that the author is #TeamAngel, which seems pretty unforgivable as a Spuffy shipper (kidding!) This was a mixture of cultural references of Buffy and behind the scenes chats with the actors and actresses and crew that made this show such a success. It was interesting to see how certain people came off behind the scenes, and it was an easy read. Definitely recommend for Buffy fans!

Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born is a fantastic analysis of the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the impact it continues to have to this day. Evan Ross Katz is one of SMG's biggest fans and a true fan of the show, The book begins with a Stacey Abrams interview! I loved this so much because it really proved how a single show can impact so many people from so many different walks of life. The author breaks down every season, highlighting specific moments that made Buffy so great for its time. Buffy is a show that is celebrated for its feminism and that's why is so perplexing to learn that Joss Whedon sucks so much! The author didn't hold back from discussing the scandals of the show and how its creator established a toxic environment for so many of the actors on the show. There are interviews from cast members including SMG. For me, this book led to another binge-watching of the entire series. It will not only let remind you of great scenes and dialogue but it will also bring up conversation. The love that Evan has for the show and its leading lady is so apparent and I am so glad that a true fan is able to write this entertaining and astonishing book!

I loved Buffy the Vampire SLayer growing up and it am actually in the midst of doing a rewatch of the whole series now, so this was such an 'on time' read for me! It is so interesting to be rewatching it now at my age and with everything we've learned about Joss Whedon and his behavior. Getting the insight from the cast was something I've been craving for a long while and it breaks my heart to read what some of these people had to go through and how it still affects them. On a lighter note, I loved reading how the series as a whole has affected so many people and reading about all the celebrities that loved the show. I really enjoyed all the input we got from Stacey Abrams, and her take on the show. In some parts the book read more as an article than a nonfiction book, but I honestly think that's just how writing is now. This was a fast and informative read that I really enjoyed.

"Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born" captured me from the moment it appeared on NetGalley. I am a huge Buffy fan, so how could I not love a deep-dive into the Buffy-verse? Evan Ross Katz does a great job giving the inside look at first the movie, then a recap of all seven seasons of the show. The first half provides interviews, opinions, and a deeper connection into the history and the world of the actors. The second half focuses on issues on set and around the show.

Although the author does give his very biased opinion a bit too much, and he gets a handful of easily Google-able details wrong, this book is a must read for fans who love the show, especially if they love interviews and behind the scenes looks at all involved.

This book is definitely for Buffy superfans. Unfortunately, I am just a regular fan or casual fan. Loved the show in college back in the day. Won't change the channel if it happens to come on these days. But I am not (and have never been) obsessed with the show or any of its actors. The author of this book clearly is. (Seriously, I would be surprised if there aren't restraining orders involved.) Comes off as weird and creepy to me. There's probably nothing really wrong with the book. It's just definitely not for me. Maybe if I was younger and the show was still shiny and new...

I went into this book not knowing much about Buffy. I did play the video game that came out after the success of the show though.

I really enjoyed this book. This is so much more than just “how Buffy impacted television.” The research completed, the interviews, the layers this book has to really dive into why Buffy was so successful, what we learned from Buffy and why Buffy is still relevant today. You know the author loves Buffy and wanted to do the show (and SMG) proud. And I believe the he’s has achieved this. Plus you can’t beat his sass and charisma that shines through on every page.

I’d definitely recommend this to people. Buffy fan or not, this book is for everyone!

I wasn't much for the structure of the book. The first few chapters felt like random interviews more than being about the making of Buffy. They were about people's opinions on the show rather than about the making of the show. The book wasn't what I had thought it would be based on the description. With the parts about Joss Whedon it didn't feel like the book was celebrating Buffy so much as discussing what its creator did wrong.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
