As a fan of the old, original Santa Mouse books, I don't think you can have too many stories about mice and Christmas. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal and so full of details and beautiful color. The illustrations of a cutaway of the house interior, banquet feast, and the full party scene were favorites of mine and children will pore over the details in the scenes. The story, told in rhyme, could be interpreted as a combination of elements of the Nutcracker and Twas the Night Before Christmas. The mice are preparing for a Christmas feast, Christmas dance, and waiting for Santa Mouse so everyone in the house is busy preparing for the holiday or participating in festivities. Wonderful book!

When I saw this book, I thought it would be a great little Christmas book to share over the holidays with my two young children, but there was something else about it I couldn’t quite explain after I read it. The Mice Before Christmas reminds me of a Christmas book I loved when I was a little girl, about a bunch of little rodent families who lives in a huge pine tree and all had to work together to decorate the tree with items each family had, in order to complete the tree before Christmas and Santa came. The Mice Before Christmas is about a holiday party the mice have and it follows along with the classic children’s Christmas book T’was the Night Before Christmas. Very cute for young children.

The Mice Before Christmas is an adorable book. It has the most beautiful, traditional style illustrations and both myself and my 5 year son enjoyed the story equally. It's just amazing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Skyhook Press for my ARC.

A new take on The Night Before Christmas this enchanting book is a must have to be enjoyed by adults and children alike. Written in the same poetic style as the original, the story focused on the mice in the tale. Beautiful and detailed illustrations. I received an advanced eBook copy from Net Galley and Sky Hook Press but will be adding the hard copy version to my Christmas shopping list. A delightful book, highly recommend :)

What a beautiful book. The illustrations are so detailed and stunning to look at. A lovely story too - so nice that the mice in the house from the traditional poem are shown having their own wonderful family Christmas too. This would make a beautiful gift for anyone at Christmastime. This could easily become a new classic. Only one page where the rhyme did not quite work for me - the one about the snow mice and dough mice but otherwise perfection.

Everyone knows the famous poem lines "Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse", but what were those mice up to before they got into bed that Christmas Eve? This children's picture book about the mice preparing for Christmas is very cute. It's in the same rhyme and meter as the poem and the illustrations are very detailed and drawn in a traditional, timeless style. Really well done and a unique take on a well-known classic! Even though it's October, I'm in the mood for he holidays now!

Thank you Netgalley and Skyhook Press for access to this arc.

This is clever and adorable. It takes the classic “The Night Before Christmas” and doesn’t just switch the protagonists to Victorian mice but invents a whole new world for them – one with lavish house decorations, a huge tree, baking, presents, feasting, and dancing. And this is even before Santa Mouse arrives on his red sled pulled by eight gold and white hamsters!

"When all was inside, Santa came in the house,
And he filled up a stocking for each little mouse.
Then all the big toys, he set under the tree
While he joked and he laughed. It was jolly to see!"

After all that preparation and partying, the exhausted mice are too tired to dream of sugarplums. Listed for children ages 4-9, I think adults will enjoy it, too. A-

The Mice before Christmas is similar to the bookThe Night Before Christmas, as described in Clement Clarke Moore's beloved poem. This book about an extended family and friends of a family of Mice as they go about preparing for Christmas Eve and Santa Mouse. Such a beautiful story that can also interpret to the everyday human family as they prepare for Christmas. Not only does the words tell us the story so does the beautiful and magnificent magical scenery of the pictures which brings the mice alive. These pictures encourages readers to look at them closely and opens the communication between the young and older readers to find a certain mouse or items after reading through the book. I would indeed encourage parents, carers, grandparents, aunts etc to purchase for a young child as an early Christmas Eve present.

I fell in love with this book just from the title, so in a way, I was dreading reading it because I feared it wouldn't live up to the amusement I'd had from title. I'm happy to report the book very much lived up to its name.

I have to add that recently I discovered there are other such books with the same title, but this was the first (and only) one of these I'd seen and read, so I cannot comment on the others. I can say that I was pleased to see artist Wendy Edelson given due credit on the cover instead of being some sort of a footnote tucked down at the bottom as illustrators are all-too-often relegated in children's books, like a few sentences takes more work than pages of quality, detailed artwork! I was very pleased that didn't happen here.

The illustrations are rich, and detailed and colorful, with a delightfully Christmas-y tone to the coloring and style. The writing is far more than a few sentences in this case, and is wonderfully poetic and sweet. The whole story about a mouse Christmas is charming. The mice have no less of a festival at Christmastide than do humans. Not a lot of people know that! They deck the halls, and anything else they can get away with (they're mice after all - and thereby hangs a tail!), and they dress in finery and celebrate at eight sharp, handing out gifts, enjoying good company and good food, and finally making sense of that second line in the poem, "A Visit from St Nicholas"!

I commend this as a worthy read and perhaps the start of a new Christmas tradition, replacing the other poem - which is, lets face it, of dubious provenance!

This is a sweet, mouse-foucsed retelling of the old classic, The night before Christmas. The illustrations are bright and cherry and anyone loving mice, will be sure to enjoy this picture book.

This is a delightful twist on the traditional 'Twas The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore but from the viewpoint of the mice in the manor. The illustrations are beautiful with the mice dressed in elaborate Regency dress and elaborate detail. It is a fun, festive party time for the mice as they get ready for the Christmas celebration including lots of family members, friends and neighbors. I am always looking for new books for our grandchildren and this just might go on the list. I read it using the NetGalley Shelf App and was able to see the beautiful colors and detail.

This was a unique perspective on a classic story. I loved that they explored a different angle than usual. and the illustrations were very entertaining. There was so much to look at that children would love it. There were a few of the lines that just felt awkward because of the way it was written, but overall I think it was a very good book.

My children and I loved this festive book! The illustrations were gorgeous and gave the whole thing a classic and cozy feel. I loved the play on the old poem (which my son loves) and all the traditional Christmas activities depicted so sweetly.

My children were a bit young for this book and as such we had to break it up into a few different reading sessions but it is perfect for older children in one sitting., My preschooler enjoyed himself immensely when we broke it up into bite sized chunks.

This seems like the type of book to save and come back to look over year after year as the holidays begin. It certainly has me feeling festive even in the middle of October!

In this spin off of The Night Before Christmas we find out what the mice were doing the day before Christmas.

This story is told using the same rhyming conventions as the original but telling quite a different story. It does however pull on the odd line from the original.

The illustrations were beautiful and I throughly enjoyed the story.

OMG. I'm in love with this book! I went through the book three times so far and I received it today. First-round to see all the wonderful art. The second time, I read this cute "The Night Before Christmas" story from the mice's perspective, and finally, I expand to see all the fine details and the gorgeous coloring. Just wonderful. I hope there will be calendars or cards with this theme, loved it!

I am not a big fan of the Poem this story is based on. I think it's probably just because it's...well...poetry. I had the same kind of feeling about this one at first. Dull. Boring. Boring. Dull. But actually the story tickled me. I could almost ignore the poem and pretend it was just well done rhyming text. The art was incredibly nostalgic, reminding me of art from when I was a child but with brighter colors. And I loved the way the end of the two poems are tied in together.

This was sooooo cute. It's an offshoot of the classic, "T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.", but it's from the perspective of said mice. Adorable. I thought the poetry was really nice and the art style was so classic and timeless.
Overall, I really really enjoyed this and highly recommend it! Christmas is coming up faster than we think, so get your hands on this!
