An entertaining story of how not to get dead in LA. Richard Roberts has built a very unique community inside LA as we know it and populated it with some teenagers that could save the world, if they could only figure out how.

Avery is the only necromancer 8n the world and she is pretty terrible at it too. She also lives in LA. She has a possee with superpowers.
Armed with her pudgy bunny coloring book she takes on the city supervillains. This book is very entertaining. I really liked it.

This was a very interesting story. I haven’t read any of his other books but I may have to after this one. This story is for a younger crowd I think but I still really enjoyed it. It was funny, there was action and I really liked all the characters.

It’s not easy to write a book, and it’s even harder to write a series of them and sell them. For that alone, this book deserves two stars, because it must have a fanbase and an audience waiting out there for it to be released so they can read it.

That being said: Two stars is all this book will receive from me, because I otherwise found a great many flaws in the book that made it wholly unenjoyable for me to read.

I congratulate Richard Roberts on the publication of this latest book in his series.

I mean the title of this book alone, suggests to me that it's going to be a fun read and that's exactly what it was. Fun.
Let's start with the writing style. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but honestly it grew on me enough that I flew through the book in less than 2 days. I liked the world in which the book is set. The subtle changes to the world I am familiar with, which made it easy to picture. The characters were well thought out and I enjoyed the development throughout the book. I particularly enjoyed the way the characters interacted a navigated through the issues they were having. Avery (our protagonist) is a necromancer which is always something I am interested in and bring that in to the high school setting was so much fun! It was like a group of misfits on steroids.

I think the thing I enjoyed most about this book was the humour. It was so funny and I found myself laughing out loud at times.

I must admit it was the title that drew me to this book. Seriously, tell me Please Don’t Tell My Parents I’m Queen of the Dead doesn’t get your attention and sound like a blast. Now this is the 7th book a series, but I don’t think you need to have read the previous books to ‘get’ and enjoy this one. At least I hadn’t read any of the previous books and I had no problem following the story, which follows a group of young teens who have superpowers, with our main character being a necromancer. Their powers tend to be on the ‘darker’ side of the spectrum and as such some of the people in the book want to label them as super villains, but that isn’t a moniker they have any desire to embrace. Now while the book is targeted toward teen/young adults there are some serious themes addressed. I will say that Mr Roberts’ has a unique writing style and it took me a bit of time to get used to it. Also Avery, the main character, has quite the country dialect, which Roberts doesn’t shy away from. And while I can see how this might turn off some people, it honestly put a smile on my face and made me laugh because it reminded me of people I’d known in the past. Overall I thought it was a fun story and I’m actually planning to go back and start the series from the beginning.

This book wasn't what I was expecting.
A fun and sometimes even hilarious adventures involving magic, ghosts, necromancers and shadows, seen through the eyes of an uncommon grip of teenagers who are experiencing love and different feelings.
The bi-representation was good and each character had its own way to make me laugh with a simple gesture or word.
"You don't need to see our identification ... these aren't the droids you're looking for"
I also found very original the fact that the author decided to include the main character's dialect throughout the dialogues just to make it all more interesting.
"Ah think y'all're doin' pretty well reformin'yer evil already"
Plus the magic items, the grimoires and the spells made the entire plot more "Special".
I really enjoyed it and overall I think it's a good ya fantasy book to get into ... even for starters if the genre.

Perfect Halloween read.

I enjoyed this book. It's about a group of teens with special powers and especially about one who leads them, a necromancer. It's has a villian or several who is defeated in the end. The characters are interesting. #PleaseDontTellMyParentsImQueenoftheDead #NetGalley
