Many thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for providing me with a copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This twisty small town story full of secrets starts off when Chrissy, golden girl and granddaughter of the town matriarch, is found drowned. Cleo, a dysfunctional woman on the run from herself, takes on the task of finding out what really happened. But will she be able to solve the mystery? Or will she be next?

First off, the small town setting was brilliant. It was so claustrophobic, and the main lady who ran the town was suitably nasty, and this whole “rotten to the core” vibe echoed throughout the book. I found Cleo hard to like sometimes - she’s very much someone who sabotages herself but she also recognises this. However, there are multiple POV in this book, with Cleo telling the story in the first person and the others in the third person, so it gave a break from the stupid things Cleo would do. In saying that, you could see how she had got to this point and why she did these things, so it didn’t impact on my ability to enjoy the story.

The story itself felt well paced. It wasn’t too slow, but the action was spaced out to make time for interactions with others. There were enough teasers and red herrings that I wasn’t too sure if I had my baddie picked correctly or not, and in the end I did, but not in the way I thought. It was so twisty and such a surprise at the end!

This is a perfect read for anyone who likes twisty mystery/thrillers and small towns with dark secrets. I’m definitely pleased I picked this one up!

Thanks to #NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book. I received an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, what a great read. I was engaged from page 1, and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end. @mdaauthor is definitely someone I will be following in the future.

One Summer. One Drowning. Nothing will ever be the same again.

What happens when the past meets the present and a killer surfaces?

Cleo needs a "do over" a fresh start from her complicated and messy life. When a touch of good fortune unearths itself, Cleo finds out her aunt will have a vacant cottage available for the summer.

Cleo swore she wouldnt return to Silver Bay years ago, but here she is packing her bags and returning to the once damned town.

Now of course whats a thriller with a little twist?

Cleo arrives in town just as a body washes up to shore . Chrissy Stieversen, to be exact. As the web of deceit starts to unravel, Cleo is front and center tangled up in a town that is out to protect their own at any cost. Now another body is found and Cleo needs to know the truth but will the truth put Cleo in danger?

So, whoa. I loved this novel. It was one of those oh my god what did I just read, kind of books. I was instantly hooked and each flip of the page became addicting. I needed to know what was going on and I was fully invested in Cleo's story.

I absolutely love a good murder mystery jam packed with some twists and turns. The Drowning, did not disappoint. This is a homerun for Margot D'Archer!

Out October 19, 2021 , you do not want to miss this 5 star read!

This book had suspense, intrigue, and a great who done it! The storyline had many twists and turns! But it was just ok for me?! It didn't drag me in?! My mind wandered off quite a bit, so I just feel the book was just ok for me! It was worth reading but just ok! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I found this book very confusing. There was too much going on and too many characters to keep up with. I kept flicking back and forth to try to make sense of it all. I eventually caught up and it started to flow but it just wasn’t written well enough for me.

The Drowning by Margo D'Archer was an interesting read. Although I enjoyed the storyline, I had some difficulty following it and keeping the numerous characters straight. It seemed disjointed and not very realistic. A bit too chaotic for me!

Thank you BooksGoSocial for this eARC!

The Drowning by Margot D'Archer is a fast paced thriller!
I read and enjoyed The Woman Next Door (released 3|21)
So I had to jump on her third book!
And it was great!

Here we are in Silver Bay a beautiful lakefront town!
Cleo discovers her aunts little cottage will be empty all summer. So she packs her bags and heads there!
Even though something awful happened one night 10 years ago.
Wild enough the day.after she gets to her cottage a body of the Chrissy Stieversen the towns queen is found on the waterfront and Cleo is brought back to the past and the truth about this small lakefront town.
This town is full of lies......
She starts thinking she has made major bad decision in coming back here. Then weirdly enough she finds Chrissy's diary and meets her brother to.give it back to him.
Not long after Cleo is wrapped up in the drama she didn't want any partnof!
As more death appears to rain down on this sleepy town and Cleo finds herself in a big mess she starts feeling like Maybe she did make a mistake and she can't help but feel like she now is in danger!

WoW! If you like a good whodunit.... This book is for you!
The suspense never stopped.
The characters were fabulous and they all are very interesting.
This character driven thriller was great while also surprising me with unexpected twists.
A story you won't see coming!

Cleo, jobless with a bleak summer ahead of her, spontaneously decides to drive to her Aunt Emma's cottage with the intent of living there for a few months. She feels she has nothing to lose. Shortly after her arrival, she has a run-in with the wealthy and controlling Stieverson family which owns half the town. The family is not liked, not at all. Then a body shows up. As with every family, the skeletons in the closet clink loudly and there are many layers to peel back. Cleo discovers a diary which she wants to use as leverage. She also does some digging of her own. The local police are not prominent in the story.

The premise of the story is good but it feels like thrillery elements are missing. It is unconvincing and a bit choppy. I wish there was more oomph and substance in the (mostly young) characters. Those seeking a quick mystery, give this a go. There really is quite a lot of potential.

My sincere thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book!
