Rabbithole – Melissa Rea @Netgalley #NightsOfAlice Book One

Alice comes from a family with a history of mental health and addiction issues.

Her mother suffers from bipolar disorder, her aunt was institutionalised and subjected to ECT.

Alice fears she is losing her mind or succumbing to BPD herself.

Every evening a magical clothes hangar provides Alive with an outfit, one that leads her to the rabbit-hole/balcony door for a spicy night-time romp in various time settings and locales.

Is it bipolar disorder? Is Alice losing her mind?

This book is spicy, sexy and sizzling hot! Alice’s amorous evening romps are intriguing and dazzling, but are they enough for Alice? Does she actually crave the closeness of a real life relationship.

My favourite quote of the book has to be:
‘Alice found it difficult to keep from lapsing into blatant road rage’ – LOL, we have all been there!

4 Stars

I found this book to be extremely difficult to get through. The first chapter was way too long and detailed. It felt unresolved when you never find out about the adventures at the end.

I like that the MCs  are older and not the typical 20 something, the story, the relationships between characters, All the industrial espionage, and work related issues are very interesting and entertaining. Also can't wait to dig deeper in the reason behind her powers and how and why it works that way. I will for sure read the next book. i liked the book well enough.
But I feel I need to address some serious issues I found in this book.
1st, with arround the 10% of the book read it was already said twice, how wonderful it was that she has lost weight. With no mention of how problematic and toxic this behaviour is and how this could affect a person. You can see later in the book how she have self esteem problems but this theme is touch very lightly and does not recived the necessary attention, leaving a deeply problematic impression. that is unnecessarily, would have been better just to leave it out of the book.

2nd the beginning of the book feels like an ode to the penis. There are lots of erotica scenes, which is great , but I would have appreciated more descriptive scenes even if that meant reducing the quantity. the erotica felt rush.

3rd the book is more than anything else Alice's way to mental health. And everyone way is diferent  and perfectly valid, but frases like " a diagnosis is just an excuse people make" are terrible hurtfull and untrue. For most a diagnosis is a way to understand what is going on with one's life,   for many others a diagnosis is not necessary useful, but it is in any case never an excuse.
4th the book is triggering in so many ways for people with mental health issues and eating disorders. And a warning before start reading it must be added. It has mess a lot with my head. This book present Alice's decisions with therapy and medication as the best and correct way to approach the problem, but this is not true for everybody and should be made clear, approaching one problems with medication and other kinds of therapy is perfectly right if that is what you need. But if you have taken this way, reading this book might leave you the feeling that you are doing things wrong. And that's not OK.

5th and last there is a moment in the book when some characters speak Spanish, and the Spanish is wrong and make absolutely no sense. Would be better to consult with a spanish speaker (or any other language you want to add) to make sure what you have written makes sense.
Also there are lots of grammar and punctuation mistakes that would be worth checking.

Alice, 49 and sexy is the main character and is the CEO of a large medical research facility. Two men working for her want to be with her, one of them married. Not all of the staff are on her side, as expected.
Let's start off with the negatives. The first chapter is terrible, far too much time is spent with our main character and her job. It was a struggle to wade through the tedium. It was like every work meeting that could have been an email. I'm sure that half the people reading this book will give up before they've reached the end of this chapter. Also, if I read the phrase - 'he parted her folds' one more time I think I will scream.
Anyway, let's move onto the positives. Every day at sunset a new set of clothes appear in Alice's wardrobe, and when she puts them on she is transported to another time and place, and then has wonderful and exciting sex. This idea is fun and it means that each sexual encounter is different. One evening she is a groupie with a 70's rock band, another time she is seduced by Casanova, or she meets a wounded viking. All very fun and erotic.
Towards the end of the book things come to a head with stolen patents and one of her lovers being shot. However, we never find out about how or why the mysterious adventures occur. I expect more will be revealed in the 2nd book, however, I wasn't drawn in enough to want to read more, sorry.

The most unique spin on Alice in Wonderland that I've ever read! A very intriguing read of exploration and discovery by night while being a powerful presence in business by day. This is a book to escape into!

This was my first book from the Erotica genre on NetGalley, so not sure if it’s the genre or just this particular book that is not my cup of tea. Too much exposition, hokey dialogue, and the sex scenes felt very flat. A lot of the contemporary romance I read has stronger erotica writing than this, and a stronger story too.
