This was another great Smartypants Romance!!! This series is a wonderful escape from reality and Key Change did not disappoint! This is my favorite of this series, I loved the real life look it gave for celebrities. The results that can come from doing whatever you want without considering the consequences. I really hope this series continues, I really want more stories about the ladies at Common Threads! The narrators are on point and make the story better.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first audiobook ever so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect but it was pretty nice. I even experimented a bit with speeds and was pleased that I could still enjoy the story. This was a slow burn romance but I'm not sure you can call it clean with a storyline about herpes?
My one beef was with the male narrator doing his female voices. They consistently varied between bored and resigned. The female narrator was great though, and it was solid writing.

Key change had the potential to be a really great novel but I just did not enjoy it. It felt like it leaned very heavily on stereotypes. That kept me from being able to connect with the main characters. The premise held a lot of potential but it fell really flat.

This book was just okay I probably will not recommend thanks for the advance readers copy. The book read slow and it didn't keep my attention

Key Change follows Hannah, an ex-pop-star in hiding who left the limelight and changed roles to become a caretaker to her half-sister. We follow her through her “normal” mundane life where her secret seems safe until she meets Johnny and his younger brother. Johnny works in the biz and we learn that he and Hannah share a past (that she can’t remember).

Heidi Hutchinson successfully wrote a hilarious romance that leaves the reader laughing out loud. I also loved the light suspense/mystery sprinkled throughout that left the reader wanting to read more. I highly recommend this story to anyone interested in romance, fame or music production.

Thank you to Heidi Hutchinson, SmartyPants Romance and NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my review.

In a different life she used to be a Rockstar but one with a bad reputation and attitude. She leaves it all behind starts over where no one will know her with her little sister. She will do everything to make sure she has the best and safe life.

When a young musician recognizes her and wants her help and she freaks out and try to pay them off not to tell anyone who she really is.

Only problem is one of the guys knows her from her past in music.

When a music opportunity comes up for her to help she think she can kill 2 birds but the more time spent working on music the more she starts to come herself again.

As they work together they work more towards there best self.

This is the 3rd book in a series and the 1st one I read and they can be read alone or all of them.

Loved the audio and this story was super cute.

Thank you NetGalley for this audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

This book had a really original premise and characters that went deeper than what a romcom usually gives. The main lead was aware of her shortcomings and was actively working on herself without blaming others over it and it was really refreshing. I also appreciated the subjects that were discussed including sexually transmitted illnesses that are so often ignored in books.

It was sweet, funny and original and I totally recommend it.

My thoughts…
Just what I needed. So, I didn’t know this book 3 from Smartypants Romance “Common Threads” series was coming out. So, I was pleasantly surprised because I started the series this month! Lo and behold, it was on NetGalley and I was approved 🎉 - I like this series a lot. I just 🧡 how there was a connection to Knitting in the City series. I’m just thrilled when characters I read from other books made an appearance - especially since I enjoyed the Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid. I enjoyed the story of romance, immigrant family, music and family storyline in this book. I thought the siblings were such fun characters. The audiobook was good with great narrators.

This was such an all around wonderful story. The main character, Hannah starts the story as a seemingly very unlovable person. She has done some things that make her appear to be an individual that doesn't care for others who how her actions impact them. Yet as the story progresses, you understand more about her personality and how she's wired.

Then there is Johnny. Oh Johnny. He's the perfect hero for this story. He's a good man - - a good brother, son, nephew, boyfriend, friend, man. He's simply good. And swoony....did I mention how swoony Johnny is?? He's so utterly and completely swoony. The chemistry that Hannah and Johnny have is off the charts. I really loved seeing how their story evolves. In addition, all the side characters are amazing as well. Their siblings, relatives, other musicians and more.

The story itself it just really good. I enjoyed everything about it. There was a very natural flow and the character building was solid.

This was an audiobook read for me. The male and female narrators were perfect for the roles. It was one of the most enjoyable listens for me that I've had in a while. The pacing in the story was good and there was never a moment that I wanted to either speed it up or stop listening. I was glued to this story from the very beginning. I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley for this audio access. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

A fascinating second chance story that will definitely draw you in and keep you listening! Some people handle fame well and others don't. Ashton James was definitely one of the don't. Her toxic ways screwed him over once, is he willing to let her prove she has changed and risk getting crushed again? Interesting characters with multi-layered personalities that really bring them to life. The dual narration of the audio book really reinforces the layered personalities of each character and makes you want to know more about them. I am really enjoying the stories in this series, although they could definitely be read/listened to as stand alone stories as the individual stories do not impact the next book in the series. There are common characters that pop up in each, but that is the thread that holds them together as a series. I can't wait to listen to more of these "Common Threads" Series books!

Thanks to Netgalley and Smarty-pants Romance for the chance to listen to the Key Change audiobook.
I'll be breaking this review in two parts the actual story and the audiobook narration.
First the story: Heidi Hutchinson is a new author for me but I've been hearing great things about her work and I'm happy to say I want disappointed. Hutchinson delivers a compelling heroine in Hannah and a lovely hero in Johnny.
Hannah's struggles feel so genuine and real and it's great to see her admit that she's not as damage and alone as she feels. Johnny was such a stand up guy. His struggle to trust Hannah is so valid but he's never cruel but he's never a doormat either!
I really like the way Johnny's family was described with me being Hispanic (Mexican) and having (Honduran) friends it often takes me out of the story when the diversity is shoehorned in and they don't get the dynamic of the culture right. But this was pretty perfect.
One little thing that might not really be a spoiler but I was a little taken aback when we get two random chapters in Hanna's and Johnny's siblings POVs.

Now the audiobook narration;
Okay, I love audiobooks and that makes me a little nitpicky about them. I'll start off by saying I had to take a star off my rating for this.
I love Samantha Brentmoor she has such range and you can feel her emotions. She also has great voice when she switches to narrate the male counterparts dialogue in her chapters. She was such a perfect Hannah having those hints of vulnerability even when she had to be brave. Just wonderful.
My problem was with Wayne Mitchell as Johnny.
Don't get me wrong he does a very good job when he narrates Johnny. It's when he narrates any female or other male in the story that we have a problem. Any other male character sounds like a suffer dude and the female characters sound like they have an standoffish attitude. It really took me out of the story when Hannah and Johnny where having serious conversations.
As I mentioned before I'm Hispanic so I had a few issues with the narration when it came to some of the pronunciations of names. It would have been nice to have a Hispanic narrator that could pronounce his last names correctly.
But again overall the story was great and the narration issues I had we're not something that took much away from the enjoyment.

I absolutely enjoyed the audiobook, Of the smartypants romance books this was is adorable. Hannah was trying to live under the radar and Johnny had a taste of her in the past. This as a fabulous second chance romance with a side to smartypants romance that. Couldn’t get enough of. Thank you for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

I loved this one! Hannah wants nothing more than to live her life quietly and to take care of her sister. All is well until she is recognized by a teenager in the subway singing one of her songs. How can that be? She has changed so much and cleaned up her act and now the paparazzi seem to be everywhere. When he slips her a demo she has enough and shows up at his home to return it and comes face-to-face with Johnny. She does not recognize him but he does her. He was a guitar player on her first album and they had a brief affair and she promised to take him on tour until she had him fired. He now has his own recording studio and doesn't need her anywhere near them. That is until she shows up at his studio and soon the tables turn when she works some magic at the piano and production. All bets are off then when she is needed. I couldn't listen to this one fast enough. Hannah wants nothing more than to remain clean and sober and she takes responsibility for her mistakes of her past. Watching them together was magic. Definitely a recommendation from me.

This review is of the audiobook so I will be giving my opinion of the writing, story, characters, and book itself, as well as the audio production and narrators.

Key Change tells the story of Hannah, who is an ex-train-wreck pop star, who leaves the limelight to live a secretive sober life being the guardian to her younger half-sister. All goes awry when Sean, a young busker, recognizes her at a train station. Even more drama ensues, when we meet Sean’s older brother and guardian, Johnny, who knew Hannah from her past life.

If I am not to be honest, this review only needs two words…QUINN SULLIVAN! Yes, Quinn and even Alex Green and Janie from the Knitting in the City series makes an appearance. And they are delightful! In addition to that little surprise, the story is wonderful. I enjoyed that the book alternates between the two main characters, Hannah and Johnny, so we get a glimpse into each of their thoughts on their situation and blossoming relationship.

I also really like the character of Hannah. She is sassy and bitchy and takes no crap from anyone, but at the same time she is responsible and caring and thoughtful. I really wanted her to be happy throughout the book. She made mistakes in her past and was by no means perfect, but she always tried to do good.

As for the book itself, it is well written and well organized. The pacing was good. As I mentioned, I listened to the audiobook version and the two narrators were on point. They did great voices for all the characters and conveyed realistic emotion in their delivery.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book, especially to anyone that is a fan of Penny Reid.

Special thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for advanced copy.

This was a really good book to listen to! I enjoyed listening to Hannah being able to come to terms with what she had done in the past and that she stopped punishing herself for not being the best person back then.

This book wasn't for me. I was looking for a light fluffy romance and this was to heavy. Also, I am not interested in the music industry so at times I wanted to skip ahead.

Hannah and Johnny! 🥰 I need more! I’m already a huge fan of smartypants romance books so I already had no doubt I’d love this one. It took me a bit to get used to the male narrator on this one but I definitely recommend it. 5 musical ⭐️‘s!

A very slow burn... I found it hard at first to really care about Hannah but she eventually won me over. There were a few chapters that could have been left out completely; I'm not sure why we went to Piper's pov. I did feel like the character development was really on point. It was really true to life and really healthy. I mean we get to see Hannah in therapy and how she works through what happens.

I did not enjoy this book. The main character is unlikeable. I am really not a fan of slow burn novels either, so I could not get into this at all.
