This was a fun fantasy romance filled with pirates, curses, treasure and mysteries to solve. Merryn is raised on the legends and stories woven by her grandfather. Tales of her ancestors and the legend of the lost family treasure buried on Lundy Island. Now, grown, Merryn must save her grandfather from prison by finding the buried treasure, if it even exists. On her travels, Merryn is shipwrecked and rescued by Kit. Merryn was a great character, flawed and realistic. Worldly in one sense, but very naïve and far too trusting. It was a simple and straightforward plot. The writing was very wordy, if a little clunky, at times with lots of historical language in the dialogue, which some may not appreciate. Overall it was an okay read. Not my favorite but I still read all the way through to see how it wrapped up. Two and a half stars rounded up to three.

Pirates, Deceptions, and Curses

This story is full of secrets, romance, and deception. There is a pirate’s treasure to seek, a curse to lift, and love to save. Can the treasure be found? Will the curse be lifted? With all the deception, can love be saved? Not everyone is who they seem, and Merryn and Kit will have the fight of their lives. If you like pirate stories with suspense, mystery, and romance, you might enjoy this tale. Sometimes, the path is difficult to follow, but everything will become clear in the end.

Enter the world of the Pirates of Britannia and the descendent of a man, who had hidden the treasure on Lundy Island. Growing up with the tales of her ancestor, Merryn had determined at eight years old she would find the treasure because "Whatever is lost can always be found."

What Merryn was to find, as she did indeed attempt to get onto Lundy Island, was that Kit Lambrick and his men where the keepers of the island. There to defend it against those trying to get a foothold in attacking England.

As Merryn is shipwrecked, she is rescued by Kit, and the adventure begins!! Pirates, lost treasures, old curses and the writing of Katherine Bone, make this a story not to be missed!!

The Sea Rover's Curse by Katherine Bone is a heart-pounding tale of pirates and bad guys. Merryn grew up at her grandfather's knew, hearing tales of her illustrious fore-bears, most particularly Sir William de Marisco and how a man he had saved, Ivor, had proven to be a coward and led King Henry's men to the only place on Lundy Island, which could be breached, resulting in the capture of Sir William and his men and their eventual execution. Oh, the unfairness of it all! The betrayal! A she grew and her life changed, she was ever steadfast in her belief of the unjust treatment and the treasure he had left on the island. She had read and studied. She had watched a horrible man killed her parents. Now greedy men were holding her beloved grandfather in prison and she must find the treasure in order to save him. She hired a crew for her vessel, but sadly they all disappeared, but Francois was right there. He helped her hire a new crew. He helped her plan. He didn't save her life when the vessel ran aground. That was Kit Lambrick, the captain on Lundy Island.

This story was told in flashbacks, much of it. It was a love story, but we concentrated more on the larger story. The one of avarice, self-aggrandizement, and misplaced loyalty. Merry, for all her worldliness was extremely naive. She took things at face value and believed in the wrong people. She was a fighter and a believer. That got her through. Kit was a loner. He had been betrayed in the past and was wont to let it happen again. The plot was a simple one, but at that, things happened that were unexpected and threw the story a different direction. It became obvious who could be trusted and who could not. For some the realization came too late. It was a cunning story and full of the history of Lundy Island, still there, and important, today.

Sorry, I didn't like it. The blurb looked good but I didn't like the far too descriptive wring style. I really don't want to say more but need 100 words.
