THE SIMPLEST GIFT was compiled by Stefanos Xenakis who is an inspirational speaker based in Athens, Greece. It contains slightly less than 100 tales and platitudes ("The stronger the wind, the hardier the tree."). Xenakis' work is described as an international best-seller and I can readily see the appeal, but would personally prefer Gmorning, Gnight!: Little Pep Talks for Me & You by Lin-Manuel Miranda which I have given multiple times as a gift. Either title is the kind that someone could pick up and read a few pages over a number of days or weeks. Both emphasize compassion, kindness, and gratitude.

Stefanos Xenakis has put together a charming book of 100 little stories which are meant to teach the reader various lessons about what is important in life, and how to make the most of our days. The stories are easy to relate to and make their points well.

There is nothing strikingly new here, but it's aways worthwhile to be reminded of what's important and revisit both your perspective and perceptions. I did highlight passages and make some notes.

The author seems like someone who would be nice to know, to sit and talk with for a while. His attitude on life is refreshing.

My sincere thanks to Harper One for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. The book is set for publication on 4/12/22. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.
