The ebook is formatted poorly and is making it impossible to read. I'll have to pick this title up next time I'm in the UK. Thank you for the advanced copy though.
Most of the books I have read by Karen are lovely so I am sure this one is too.

Tara a medical doctor is an heiress and due to the privilege that she have, she tends to keep her status. 10 years ago she was betrayed by Alex in the worst possible way and for that she swore she will never be with him again. Fast forward to 10 years later, Tara is going back to Costa Rica, for an event with her boyfriend and best friend’s family. She have look forward for this time off to have some me time with her friend and family. But unbeknownst to her, she got entangled not only in the political situation but also having to track deep into the jungle for the remedy to save her friend’s son. The only way for her to get the remedy is through the help of Alex.

It is an emotional, entertaining and adventurous about love and hate, trust and betrayal. I was immersed with the author’s wonderful and incredibly detailed writing about the setting. You can know how much research was done to write this book by just reading the book. The writing is so vivid and rich and the story line flow smoothly as I read. I feel the pain and the struggle Tara have at the beginning of the book and I feel them again at the ending of the book

When young Tara Tremain met Alex Carter, it was love at first sight. For a moment life seems perfect for the young lovers but everything changes when Tara introduces Alex to her wealthy family. In an instant what started as a fairytale ends in heartache and betrayal. Fast forward 10 years and Tara finds herself faced with the past, a broken heart that never fully healed, and a mystery that could change everything. Veteran storyteller Karen Swan does not disappoint in her latest novel, The Secret Path. With beautifully written characters and a compelling storyline, readers are caught from page one.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this new novel.

Karen Swan has written a lot of novels and I find them of different quality, with the winter novels being written better than the summer novels. Ghost writer?

Unfortunately I gave up on this since it couldn't hold my attention and I just didn't get the protagonist.

First off let me say this book is remarkably well written. IT is structured very well, and the plot moves along at a decent pace. Karen Swan definitely has skills and I will be on the look out for more of her work. Now let me get into the story itself. It was, and I hate to say it, boring. The plot was beyond predictable, but I cant completely hate it for that. Sometimes that what you want in a novel, a straight forward paint by numbers type novel. This is a perfect vacation read. I cant say its the next great American novel or anything like that, but its solid. However I will probably never re-read this book or even think about again after this review. This is a great read, if your trying to pass the time.

I am a huge fan of Karen Swan's books set in more snowy/wintery destinations and I absolutely love Costa Rica, so I was really happy when I saw this one! As per usual, the descriptions of the scenery and the characters in The Secret Path are really lush and vibrant, allowing for a great escape from reality. One can easily imagine being on the Costa Rican beach as well as in the jungle and small towns along with Tara, Jed, Alex and the others.

I mostly enjoyed the main plot of the story, with Tara hiking through the jungle to find a plant, though really mostly just to deal with her own issues, while also addressing the issues of nature conservation and some of the resistance against the conservation as livelihoods are threatened. At the same time, I had a bit more trouble connecting with the romantic aspects of the story. Maybe it is because I could not truly identify with Tara in this part of her story, or maybe it is just Alex being a bit problematic.

All in all I liked this book a lot for the scenic pictures it paints and the escape it presents much like the other books by Karen Swan.

I usually love Karen Swan's books but I struggled with this one.
The descriptions of Costa Rica are amazing but the characters grated on my nerves and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

It’s been ten years since Tara had her heart broken by the man she expected to marry, and she’s moved on with a career and a good man who loves her. Then a family crisis brings her back to Costa Rica where she’s confronted with a very sick child. In the middle of the jungle, miles away from any type of medical facility, Tara finds her only hope comes in the form of the man who betrayed her years before. I love the setting for this story, the lush jungles of Costa Rica come alive in this story of second chances

What a fun read! Tara is scorned by Alex during college and many years later, now a practicing MD, she still hasn't forgotten that sting. She runs into him again years later when she least expects it but happens to need it most -- in the jungle, no less.

I said it already and I'll say it again -- this read was so fun. Despite the NetGalley description being entirely accurate, I was still so surprised by what met me in the pages. What an adventure!! One relationship comes to an end in favor of another, and my only wish was that there was more substance to the breakup. However, I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put this book down -- a wild ride!! I am extremely uninformed about life in the jungle of Costa Rica and the details having to do with those who live there, so I don't now how entirely accurate descriptions of their naturalistic medicine or religious practices were. However, the story building and world building here were absolutely fantastic!

Many thanks to Karen Swan, Pan Macmillan, and NetGalley for this ARC. Can't wait to read more by Karen!
