This is a really helpful and informative book on eating for your body and figuring out what your body needs in ratios. Not the most thrilling read but it holds a lot of great information

Macros elude me. I definitely understand the point of eating this way instead of necessarily counting calories. I have never read a book that broke it down on so many levels. Thank you!

This is a very informative book that makes a lot of sense in the dieting world. I had to take it slow so i could digest all the info. Well worth it though. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you Netgalley.

I have been working really hard at this gym for a while now and have been hesitant to take the step I knew I needed to in order to get my weight and body where I wanted. Finally, in January of 2022, I started back on the macro journey with intermittent results. So when I saw Unlock Your Macro Type, I scooped it up faster than my macro-allotted after-lunch coffee with creamer.

Macros and calorie counting. It's such a love-hate thing. The thing we hate but know we need to do it. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a negative review. Macros and monitoring your calorie allowance is THE WAY, in my book, to ensure your diet is where it is supposed to be. You can't say, "I am going to start saving money" and then never check your bank account to see if your paycheck can cover your shopping spree. The same applies to your diet. But even simple tracking isn't enough for most of us. And especially, for those of us that are also going to the gym for an added aesthetic, getting your protein goals can be extra important.

Unlock Your Macro Type is a book for everyone interested in eating to their body type, regardless of their gym or no gym preference. Some of us work better with more carbohydrates, more protein, or a more fat-dominant style of diet. It can be very frustrating figuring it out. The author gives some basic food biology (biochemistry) information and then introduces a quiz to help readers figure out their target eating style. But what I wasn't expecting was meals on top of the diet advice, which was an added bonus for me.

I won't spoil everything. But I will say there is a lot of great information. I have adjusted my macros to match the book's recommendations (based on my personal answers) and I'm definitely testing it out. I've been doing this for about 1 month now and I'm going to start tweaking some values to see if I can better hone my results. I will get back with the results when I can.

I definitely recommend this book for those interested in finding their scientifically recommended diet style and working towards a better you.

Lots of useful information. I mean A LOT of information. The beginning has quizzes to find out what your carb tolerance is and also what your macro type is. The book gives you lots of background on each type so you can figure out which categories you fit into before even starting on the diet information.

This is good for long term diet change lifestyle. Not about lose weight quick and deprivation.

Unlock Your Macro Type: Identify Your True Body Type, Understand Your Carb Tolerance, Accelerate Fat Loss
by Christine Hronec is a well researched book that helps readers look at their unique situation and tailor a plan for themselves. I think anyone would benefit from reading this book in order to become healthier, even if weight loss is not the goal. The author does a great job explaining the concepts of macros and carb sensitivity. There are short quizzes that help the reader identify their unique situation. Good book overall. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Thank you to the Mariner Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this book. This book offers an interesting perspective and acts as a guide to a healthier lifestyle through a diet change. I would like to do more research about the topic of macro type (starting with the provided reference section) before considering trying Christine Hronec’s suggestions. Overall, it was an interesting read and those who choose to implement the suggestions found in this book might want to do so under the guidance of the functional medicine practitioner.

I wanted to read this book because I'm trying to lose weight and eat healthier overall. I've done so many diets but I always feel hungry and when I stop them the weight comes back and then some.

I started doing a low carb diet before my wedding a few years back and it worked really well. My husband basically did all the research for me and set up my macros so I didn't really know TOO much about it.

After reading this book, I didn't really learn anything new except for how to determine my numbers. Everything else was a good refresher for when I start my new way of eating this week.

This book is great for beginners but also keep in mind this stuff might not work for everyone, just like any diet really.

Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for an ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone. :)

I really appreciate the ARC of this book. I was fascinated by the concept of nutrition and exercise for your macro type. This book was just what I was looking for. I had an idea of what macro type I was, but the self quiz was very helpful in making it clear in my mind.

I'm old enough to have tried about every diet known to man, and have worked with trainers and nutritionists who had a plan to help me lose weight and gain muscle. This is the first book I've read that customizes weight loss and exercise to my personal macro sensitivities. I did what the author suggested and read the book all the way through before skipping to the quizzes. I recommend doing this, it gave me a full understanding of each type of carb sensitivity. The workout program is also customized to your macro/carb sensitivities. This book is well written using scientific research referenced in the footnotes of the book. I'm a questioner, so I have to really believe in what a health professional recommends, and the author did a great job convincing me that her method was the right one for me. I'm really excited to give this a try. Thanks so much for the advanced read.

I'd recommend this book not only for people who are looking to get in shape, but also for those who just want to understand how to eat to feel better.

Christine Hornec put a lot of care and research into this book. She didn't just tell you to follow some protocol based on the quiz results you got, she took care to explain how our bodies process food, and how it affects things like hormones, etc. Which is why I find this book to be a great, informative beginners guide to understanding nutrition. If you don't know where to start your journey to getting healthier, start here!

However, I'd not recommend it to those who have any background in nutrition, or stay on top of the most recent research, because you will not find anything new here. I'd also caution those with pre-existing health conditions that require dietary alterations that are not as simple as adjusting your macros. For example, if you're suffering from SIBO or IBS, this guide won't help you.

I've been following Christine's youtube channel since her early days and I'm glad to see this book make it's way into the world, and reach even wider audience. Everything she has ever spoken about in her youtube videos is now in one place. One stop guide to nutrition and fitness. Backed by research and real life results.

Thank you to Mariner Books for providing an advanced reading copy!

I think this is an interesting approach to weight loss. I appreciate that it isn’t a one size fits all plan. I have been sick and so has my family so I haven’t been able to implement any changes as of yet, so cannot report on the plan’s effectiveness.

Thank you to Mariner books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

3.5 stars.

What worked for me: I appreciated that this book acknowledged that people, and their nutritional and metabolic requirements, are varied and that many people tend to thrive on a particular balance of nutrients. This generally advocated a realistic, flexible, mostly whole-foods approach to nutrition tailored to one's own unique metabolism. Suggested macros and calorie counts were not drastic or unduly restrictive. In fact, the author argued against restriction in many cases. Quizzes and exercises made it easy to determine one's own macro type and there was an abundance of recipes for each group.

What didn't work for me: Unfortunately, there was still some old-fashioned fat shaming. While the author didn't advocate for extreme leanness, the overarching message was still fat = bad. Some careless language was used. In once instance she actually used the phrase "tipped the scales" to describe a woman at the shocking and monstrous weight of 150 whole pounds. It wasn't enough to totally derail the usefulness of this book for me, but those who prefer a more affirming, body-positive tone, and especially those with any issues around disordered eating and/or body dysmorphia, should probably avoid this.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

Unlock Your Macro Type is a master class for those looking to try this type of nutrition plan. Christine is a Hronec is a food scientist and famous YouTuber under the name guagegirltraining. She knows why normal diets don't work for every and has a plan to tailor a diet to your lifestyle, body and goals that is sustainable forever.

The only drawback is that there is so much here it was hard for me to understand completely some of the details. She always mentions that apps that track your macros are helpful but does not mention those apps by name. Also mentioned is Flexible Dieting but no explanation is given on what it really is or how it works. This is a great starting point but I think the average person starting out will need a bit more help from their doctor, a nutrition or a trainer.

While I was able to figure out what my body type is and the best plan for myself is, I am going to do some more research on recipes and sample meal plans and meal planning ideas before I begin my program. I have been eating all wrong and need to make many changes. The changes I have started have really made a difference in my energy level and my sleep cycle. I am very excited for the next stage.

This is a complex book which makes a lot of sense but most of it is common sense and not completely new as far as I could see.

This is the first book I’ve read on Macros but I have heard of them so hence I grabbed this book. The author certainly has done her homework when it comes to macros and how different meal plans can affect your weight. I’ll be honest it’s a ton of info and very detailed. When I did the quiz it told me I was fat fueled low carb which I have to be honest has never been a diet plan for me since I gained weight. It’s definitely worth a try. I’ll definitely look up the YouTube channel. Five stars for uniqueness and kudos to the author for just trying to help others.

A very in-depth and scientific look at weightloss. very detailed but also written in a straightforward and easily absorbed way. it gives a really interesting introduction into why macros are the key and finding the right balance for your body and metabolic type. I appreciated the added details such as exercise and meal plans along with some rather delicious sounding recipes.
