Harrison has delivered a solid follow-up to A Pinch of Magic with this action-packed, saucy Widdershins Sisters story. Here we have the family moving to new digs, away from Crowstone and the Sorrow Islands. Their delight is tempered when, upon arrival, they find a ramshackle cottage full of salt-lined windows and silver coins tucked in all the corners.

The sisters quickly become embroiled in the strange goings-on in their new village of Pendlewick, culminating in a super-scary climax in which bad witches are dissolved and good people saved.

While the cute cover art might indicate this is a lower-middle grade offering, I’d put this in upper-middle grade to YA transition space because it is pretty scary. On the level with R.L. Stine & John Bellairs.

A really enjoyable read, kept my 8 year old Harry Potter fan enthralled, we both highly recommend this book!

I didn’t realize this was part of a series going in but it certainly works as a stand alone book. The mystery aspect is fun for young readers though the plot was quite predictable and’ the story feels too stretched in certain places, especially getting to the conclusion. I think it’s going to be more enjoyable for those just getting into chapter books versus the slightly older children who can snuff out the mystery quicker than the story.

The Widdershins Sisters series has been a delight from the very first page of A Pinch of Magic, and what an instalment this is! Betty, Fliss and Charlie finally escape Crowstone and move to the seemingly perfect village of Pendlewick. Under the picture perfect surface, however, there are dark forces at work and soon Betty is faced with a new mystery to solve and the stakes are higher than ever - because Fliss' life is in danger. As always, Michelle Harrison crafts her complex plot in a spellbinding way, laying just enough clues for the reader to have the joy of trying to solve the puzzle. The world of Pendlewick is brilliantly drawn and the characters that the sisters encounter this time leap off the page. As always, folklore and folk history are woven cleverly together to make the magic that the sisters encounter and use believable. Above all, A Tangle of Spells does what each other book in the series has done so well - it shows the power of sisterly love, a force that can beat the darkest magic. Is this the final chapter for the Widdershins sisters? If it is, then it is a perfect finale. If not, well I can't wait to see what they get up to next.

This was a great book that I was comfortable reading as a stand-alone instead of the series. Lovely magic, mystery, and adventure! Now I want to go back and read the previous books!

I didn’t realize this was the third book in the series when I started to read it, but it didn’t matter. The author does a great job writing a stand alone story here while referencing the other adventures of the Widdershin family. The characters are well-written and relatable. I love a good sister story! The unusual village of Pendlewick makes for an enchanting setting as the sisters deal with their mysterious new home with uneven floors, a mysterious hidden room, and a framed painting.

I loved this book. Reading about the Widdershins family again was like meeting up by with old friends. Just what you’d expect from Michelle Harrison - adventure, magic and mystery with loveable characters. A great book that I’ll be recommending to the children in my class.

Another great addition to this wonderful series! The author does a great job of setting high stakes without being too scary for younger readers. The relationship between the sisters is really well done - it's clear that they love one another but also drive each other crazy! As a middle sister myself, my favorite character is Betty, but I do like all of them. The mystery the girls find themselves mixed up in here will keep young readers engaged and the villains are perfectly crafted. I will warn that this book may be a little too scary for readers at the younger range of middle grade or more sensitive children (probably not a book they want to read right before bed). I hope there will be another book in the series so we can meet more of the villagers (and I really want to know if their house stays so crooked). I highly recommend this for all school libraries!

This is the latest installment in a sensational series, and I think it might be the best yet.

A change of scene for the Widdershins sisters but no change in luck or the way in which they unwittingly gravitate towards magical misadventure.

Brilliant narrative and a gripping story yet again!

This series is so amazing and I have loved every book in the series. A Tangle of Spells was the most creepy and the second favorite of mine. (I love a good pirate ship story).
Although I love being at the Poacher's Pocket, moving to a new town was a fun adventure. The new characters, shops and dealing with a creepy new house was a fun start.
The witches were so vivid and brought the creepy vibes. Super magic and twists and tangles.
The old folklore and the lake/forest were also so well described and an awesome atmosphere. I love the sisters and granny. All three sisters are awesome, but having more focus on Betty and Charlie was the best. Especially Charlie's lose tooth.
This was a great addition to the series. I love the whole series!

This is the third volume in a series that has been pretty consistently middle of the road for me. In the third volume the mystery was painfully obvious, which made the rest of the novel a bit of a slog as readers were forced to wait for the characters to catch up. The pacing was poor as well, with simply ages of build up only to have the conclusion of the novel and an entire subplot regarding an enchanted forest completed in the last 20% (per my ebook counter). Other readers may feel differently, but for me I think this is where I step off this series.

And the magic continues! This book does not disappoint. You also don't have to read the provide books to follow, however I would recommend reading book 1&2 first to fully appreciate everything that happens here!

The sisters move to a new home, but their relationships are tested when everything isn't as it seems. A magical mystery about belonging and fitting in.

I have loved this series of books and looked forward to reading this one. The Widdershin sisters are all brilliant in different ways and they have already been through some tricky adventures in A Pinch of Magic and A Sprinkle of Sorcery. This third story is quite dark and creepy in places but has the usual brilliant storytelling so I sped through the twists and turns. A perfect magical fantasy adventure,

A tangle of spells is the third magical instalment from the Windershins, Fliss, Betty and Charlie. They have finally left behind the dank and dangerous Crowstone and are eager for a new life and the promise of a new start. However, their new home isn't as idyllic as it initially appears and the girls soon find themselves facing a dangerous enemy that they need to defeat in order to save Fliss from the same fate as the other girls in the village.

This is such a wonderful tale that's so difficult to put down. I loved the contrasting eerie new setting of Pendlewick with a range of memorable characters both old and new. The girls are just as engaging as always, with such a wonderful relationship and I love the twists and turns that come along with their journey. This story is just the right amount of exciting, atmospheric drama. There's ghosts, witches and an age old mystery to solve.

I wish these books had been published when I was the target audience! I would have adored them!

I love these stories and hope we'll get more from the sisters! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Accidentally requested this again. Son was reading it and making spooky predictions of what would happen next!

Another brilliant magical story, which was a delight to read
Read with my eleven year old son who absolutely loved it. In fact it was he who begged for me to request this title, having reviewed previous books by Michelle Harrison
Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ahead of publication in exchange for an honest review
