Slater can tell a story that will keep you turning the pages one after another.
The widow is a story about family, friendships and community. It’s a story that shows you it only takes one accusation for your whole world to fall about.

Slater did a fabulous job with the suspense and surprises you don’t see coming.
Can’t wait for the next book by this author.

K.L Slater knows how to write a cracking book, and The Widow is once more a thriller I could not put down

Looking forward to the next story!

This ended up being better than expected. It was hard to put down and had really thrilling moments. Definitely recommend

The promo blurb was compelling. The book not so much. I struggled to stay interested and eventually skipped chapters. The plot was good, but for me the writing fell short. I didn’t care about the characters and by the end didn’t care about what had happened.

My brain and my heart hurt so much right now. My brain from being on the rollercoaster that The Widow was and my heart from beating so fast.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC which I received in return for an honest review.

All thoughts and opinions are mine

This is really not my genre, however, I make an exception for K L Slater. I have a read a few of their offerings and, honestly, am never disappointed

This is fantastic. Very twisty turny - some thrillers are a bit formulaic and predictable and this is soooo NOT

I loved it and would highly recomment

Kate and Michael and their 6-year-old daughter, Tansy; are best friends with Donna and Paul and their 6-year-old daughter, Ellie. Michael worked as the property and land manager for major landowner Irene up in Wadebridge. A polish immigrant, Suzy Baros, a single mom shows up in town with her son Aleks…and then soon disappears…

Everyone is convinced that Michael had something to do with Suzy’s disappearance.

Then one day, Michael was hit by a lorry, and sadly passed away in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Now at 34, Kate was a widow.

Michael's death was ruled a suicide, but why would he take his own life?

The local police, led by Detective Inspector Helena Price, through their investigation, find that Michael and Suzy had many secrets.

Kate is determined to find out the truth, and prove her husband’s innocence, so her young daughter won’t remember her dad as some kind of monster. But Suzy is still missing. What is going on? I had to keep reading to find out the truth.

This is a well-written, compelling thriller. The plot is complex with stand-out characters. This book was full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end, which I absolutely love in a book. The ending was quite surprising, and totally unexpected.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for my digital copy.

I have read all of K L Slater’s previous novels and always enjoy. This one is no exception.

Kate Shaw's world takes a dramatic turn the day that her husband Michael commits suicide by stepping in front of a lorry. There is a police investigation linking him to a murder. Kate knows her husband and is convinced that he did not do anything wrong.

As the story progresses it becomes clear that the investigation could go either way.
Full of twists, turns and kept me guessing until the end.

Another brilliant read and highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the ARC of The Widow in return for my honest review.

Im a huge fan of K.L Slaters books and was really looking forward to this newest read. This is classed as a psychological thriller but I’m not sure it lives up to that. It’s told in the past and present day from the points of view of several characters which is always a plus for me but it felt drawn out and such a slow burn until about 65%/70% of the read which was a little disappointing as from the blurb I was hoping for twists and turns throughout as the read progressed. When it did get going it was gripping for sure but it was a little to late as some may not stick with it that long. As for the characters some very likeable ones but some really unlikeable and some not given enough airtime so to speak. It was an interesting storyline when it got going but it’s disappointing it took that long as it had great potential.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

There’s a reason @klslaterauthor is one of my fav authors, I find her books seldom disappoint. This was another awesome read. Wasn’t quite a five star, and I can’t put my finger on why, but it was 4.5 close. I really loved the scene with the daughter at the stream where she kissed the flower and released it 🥲 I really enjoyed Donna, she made a strong backup character. Paul was a douche 🙄 and I never would have guessed the killer and that back part of the book was pretty intriguing!! As usual, the saddest part of reading a new book, is knowing you’ve got to wait until the next is released 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
Thanks so much to @netgalley @bookouture and the author for my arc always appreciated 🙏🏼

This book had it all, well developed personal likeable characters I could relate to, I loved the small-town rural setting, I loved the inter-generational friendships between Amos and Michael, Kate and Irene, and Irene and Tansy. The on-off again friendship between Kate and local café owner Donna whose daughter Ellie is best friends with Tansy, because Donna won’t hear a bad word about her husband Paul who has wandering eyes.

Then their idyllic lifestyle in their serene little town is turned on its head after Suzy a Polish Immigrant with her young son moves into one of the cottages on Irene’s estate, then mysteriously disappears. Kate’s beloved husband Michael suddenly takes his own life, and excavation works commence on Wadebridge estate.

I was so engrossed in this story, it had so many twists and turns, it was fast paced, with so many untruths revealed in a jaw dropping ending I did not see coming. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book, I really enjoyed it. The Grand Finale take away for me after reading The Widow is the exciting back catalogue of Kim Slater’s books, I’m going to read them in descending order, I can’t wait to start, I’m going to dive into “The Evidence” next.

The Widow is jammed packed with twists. You will be going through each character thinking whodunnit. I didn’t get it until the end! It’s one of my favourite KL Slater books, I’ve decided. The characters are fantastic, well developed and intriging. It’s also really great to see characters from the Polish community entwined in the story. A lovely touch!

The setting is very atmospheric and village community-based. Everyone knows everything and talks about each other behind their backs. It’s eerie, tantalising and you find yourself treating everyone as a suspect! Fantastically written and one book that is impossible to put down!

Thanks again KL Slater for a cracker of a psychological thriller!

This book was everything I hoped for! A mother's love for her child and her desire to hide unseemly details of her husband’s past, and potentially her own, is what drives the plot forward and makes it a truly excellent read.
