One of my favourite authors who never disappoints. Fast paced as always . Twists and turns galore, lies and secrets. It was unpredictable for me and that is always a sign of a good book for me.

I’ve read a few K.L. Slater books before and The Widow sits in the middle range of what she is capable of. I guess the fact that I’m not a mother living in a small countryside town didn’t endear the characters to me. At times they felt fake and borderline cheesy. However, I do feel the author did a great job portraying local gossip and rivalry and how it can negatively impact lives.

The twists and turns in the story were also really good. The author caught me out and I couldn’t get the ending. Although, I will admit that removing one or two would have made the story sharper for me. Also, I felt that some of the twists were slightly too unbelievable.

Overall, K.L. Slater has served up another enjoyable read.

Another fabulously twisty read from a great author.

Kate lives in a small village with her daughter Tansy and husband Michael. Kate's friend Donna is still reeling from the disappearance of her sister over 20 years ago, when a woman goes missing and then it further transpires that a missing man had links to the area.

Kate is desperate to keep her daughter safe and remove suspicion from her husband. But is he really as perfect as he seems?

Lots of twists as we discover the various secrets and ulterior motives in the small community

Lots of drama, intrigue, questions, misdirection, questionable characters and choices. I enjoyed this with my face glued to the pages. I think the ending was a bit lackluster and character reactions to the reveals didn't seem reasonable (oh, so you had something to do with my husband's death? Yes, I did. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it.....Oh well, that's okay. Do you have time for coffee??) All in all, a great way to spend a few hours!!

Village life is idyllic, full of sunshine, picnics, parks, and close-knit friends. Oh, and disappearances and gossip of course! Everything you might love about your community can turn in an instant if people become suspicious of you. I must say that The Widow is slightly undercut by its blurb, which is gripping, but also doesn't feel entirely accurate to the book. While I don't mind, this may be annoying for others. Thankfully, The Widow has a lot to offer! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kate has everything she hoped for: a loving husband, a darling daughter, and fulfilling friendships. After a difficult childhood she has managed to carve out a space for herself in which she has stability and safety. So of course she'd reach out to the single mum who has just moved into the village and offer her those same things. But everything changes when the young woman goes missing and now Kate has to ask herself how much of her life is real, and if she is ready for what comes next. The Widow makes no secret of some of the trials Kate faces, the title is a pretty big hint, and yet there is much more to ghe novel. The Widow also tells us the tale of Jakub, a Polish man who came to the UK in the hope to establish a good life for himself and, perhaps, win his childhood love back. Going back and forth between them, The Widow also tells a tale of privilege, of who receives attention. I also really appreciated how Slater made sure to give her characters enough time to make their decisions, to ponder their circumstances. Things need to sink in, and too often thrillers will race on to the next "Big Twist" and forget to process what just happened. In The Widow we get a great combination of tight suspense and a character-driven plot.

The Widow is a quick read due to its fast pace, but actually there is a lot going on. K.L. Slater has plotted out this mystery very tightly and because of that there is never a boring moment. I liked the way in which the novel starts off with a moment from about halfway into the book, dropping us directly into the action, but then making us witness the lead-up to it. At times I did feel that there was too much emphasis on female insecurity, on the way we snipe at each other to hide our own fears, in The Widow. I appreciate it's part of the genre and also makes sense, to a certain extent, considering what's happening. But it also makes for moments of unnecessary drama in what is otherwise stable relationships, and is otherwise a dramatic enough book. I started connecting some of the dots (definitely not all of them) about two-thirds into the book, which is a major part of the fun for me. I love it when an author actually sets out breadcrumbs for the reader and follows through. No changing things rapidly at the end to get that twist ending, no undercutting the work you've done in order to shock. Instead you drop enough hints that seem innocuous in the moment but all make sense in the end. I'll definitely be reading more of K.L. Slater's thrillers this year!

The Widow is a great thriller, full of deserved twists and with a character-driven plot! K.L. Slater truly lives up to her reputation!

The Widow by K.L. Slater is another must-read from an author who never seems to set a foot wrong. Fans will not be disappointed in this latest offering.

Kate lives a contented life with her husband Michael and daughter Tansy in a tightly knit village community. Michael works as a caretaker on a neighbouring estate. When a young Polish woman, who also works on the estate, goes missing, Michael is questioned by police as a matter of routine procedure. But a shocking accident will raise more questions about his involvement, and it will be up to Kate to get to the bottom of his role in events. Just how well did she ever really know the man with whom she has shared a life? 4.5 stars

This is another addictive and deliciously twisted read from the bankable K.L. Slater, and you will want to add it to your TBR.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

Kate lives in a small knit village with her husband Michael and young daughter Tansy. Suzy and her young son Aleks move into the village from Poland and Kate befriends them. Suzy mysteriously goes missing leaving Aleks behind. Rumours begin to spread around the village as twenty three years ago Matilda, the thirteen year old sister of Kate’s friend went missing and also a young man who was employed alongside Michael also disappeared recently. When Michael is run over by an articulated lorry, the village gossipers think that he killed himself because he knows what has happened to Suzy and they also turn against Kate. As the story unfolds Kate begins to find links between Michael and Suzy’s disappearance until can’t believe that he could be capable of murder. Also what secrets is Kate hiding? What will the investigation uncover? I have read most of K L Slater’s books and this was certainly one of the best. The tension builds through the book which has a brilliant plot, a few red herrings and plenty of twists and turns. Another great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Kim Slater has an amazing way of developing characters. You really feel for the individual. This especially being the case for Kate. Happily married to Michael an estate manager. Who live with their 6 year old daughter Tansey.

Following a village event a single mother goes missing. Michael is called in for questioning as she also works on the same estate. Everything Kate thinks she knows is turned upside down and she begins to suspect Michael is involved.

Then after leaving the police station Michael is suddenly dead. But was it an accident or did he take his own life. Suddenly people in the village are shunning her and she wants to get to the bottom of the truth.

This book will have you turning the pages. Plus I love identifying the places the author describes as its set in my home town.

As usual KL Slater does not disappoint with her new thriller The Widow.

Loved the pace of this book, the characterisation and the plot. One big twist that you don't see coming. Recommend this to anyone looking for a good thriller that you literally cannot put down!

Quietly enjoyable. Not sure I would be quite so forgiving when I found out who was behind my husbands misery and subsequent death.

By now, I've learned that reading any book by K.L. Slater is a pleasant way to pass a cold weekend. The Widow does not fail to impress. Another solid domestic thriller from this author, whose style and plots, I believe, are becoming more refined with each subsequent novel. The Widow is a complex novel, and I found it to be more enjoyable than her previous novel, The Marriage.

Kate, who have a young daughter, is happily married to Michael, who works as an estate manager in the area. One local woman goes missing, and Michael is quickly identified as the primary suspect, but he later dies. It's possible that he died in an accident or committed suicide; the circumstances are unclear, and Kate begins to wonder if she actually knew her husband. It differs from your typical domestic thriller in that it involves more than one mysterious disappearance and things are not always as they appear. This is a highly recommended read for fans of the genre. w.

A very twisty and turny psychological thriller that keeps you hooked and turning the pages and a fantastic ending you would never have expected. Great writing throughout and really interesting characters and their background and secrets completely draws you in to this book.

I'll definitely be looking out for and reading more by this author in the future.
