This is the second book I have read by K.L. Slater. The plot was intriguing and it was a fast, “I don’t want to put it down” read. The author portrayed a good sense of small village living and her descriptions evocative: I could feel the cold and the rain! Twists and turns and vibrant characters.

Here is the blurb

"The day my husband, Michael, stepped in front of a lorry after being questioned by the police, my world fell apart. He was devoted to me and our six-year-old daughter. But they’d connected him to the disappearance of a young mother from our tiny village..
Now I stand at Michael’s funeral, clutching my little girl’s hand, with tears in my eyes as I insist to all our friends that he died an innocent man. Yet the questions have started, and nothing I say will stop them digging for the truth.
But none of them can read the secrets in my heart, or know about the phone I found hidden in his toolbox…
I’m determined that my daughter will not remember her father as a monster. I will erase any hint of wrongdoing in this house whatever the cost.
Because to keep my daughter safe, the last thing I need is for people to start looking at me"

I quite enjoyed this book and it did keep you guessing did he or didn't he most of the way through the book. At times I did get a bit confused over how some of the characters were linked but it was all made clear my the end. My favourite character was the elderly Mrs Wadebridge who portrays herself as just a doddery old women but that is far from the case.

I believe this is the first book I have read by this author but having enjoyed this book I am motivated to look for other books by them.

Thanks to NetGalley, K.L Slater and Bookouture for the ARC of The Widow.

I am a big fan of K.L Slater, who certainly knows how to write a gripping thriller - her latest did not disappoint!

Kate is happily married to her husband Michael, but when a young woman goes missing at a local village fete, he is deemed a suspect. He worked with her, site managed where she was staying and her keys were found in his room without explanation. Kate suddenly gets thrown into the reality that her husband is a prime suspect - but he's not a bad person, is he??

As the pressure rises, Michael finds himself called in for questioning. As he leaves, he is hit by a lorry and tragically killed, leaving Kate determined to clear her husband's name.

The more she digs however, the more she discovers about what really happened. How well did she know her husband and what really happened that night after all?

A gripping story of uncovered secrets, lies and reveals with a satisfying ending that gripped me throughout!

Another great read from KL Slater.

This was a quick and enthralling read as I have found all of the author K.L. Slater’s books to be. A fascinating story well told and with complex and interesting characters and plot twists at every turn.

At the heart of the story is a small happy family unit. The plot weaves back and forth in time and we see the family that appeared at the outset to be perfect fall apart and suffer loss, callousness from villagers, police interviews and pay the ultimate price.

The question is what happened there some years ago when a young girl disappeared and is that now linked to the disappearance of two Polish people and the apparent suicide of a happy family man.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and would highly recommend this book to those who enjoy a good fast paced thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love K L Slaters books. I can always devoure them within a day as once I start reading I get gripped by the story and can't put it down.
This was another such book. Brilliant storyline with twists I really didn't see coming. It was very clever and kept me constantly interested. Kate and Donna were great characters and I loved how invested their friendship was. I really felt for both of them throughout the book. I won't mention the characters I didn't like as don't want to give away any spoilers but if you read it you'll guess! Would definitely recommend this book.

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. Her stories are well written and her attention to details give her stories a realistic feel. Her writing style is such that it keeps you engaged throughout the entire story. This book is no different. I loved reading this book and where the twists and turns took me throughout the story. I was pulled into the story from the beginning by the connectable characters. This is a fast paced, suspenseful story about a woman whose husband is accused of being involved with a missing mother. Than he dies and his wife is left trying to prove his innocense. But people are asking questions and a wife who is determined to keep her daughter safe. What happens next is up to you to read this book. Great growth throughout the story. I highly recommend this must read story.

3.5 stars
Another enjoyable fast paced read by K. L. Slater. As always she never fails to let her readers guess just to be proven- to be completely wrong!
A story filled with lies, secrets, twists and turns. It follows Kate Shaw. Her whole world changes when her husband, Michael steppes in front of a Lorry after being questioned by the police about a missing local woman. Kate is certain that her husband is innocent and that he had nothing to do with the missing woman's disappearance.
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture for the ARC of this book

I seem to be in the very small minority that didn’t love this book. I struggled to connect with the main characters and just could not get that feeling of rooting for any of them.

Having said that I did enjoy reading about the detectives and think that they could make a good partnership to follow in a book of their own!

I’ve not read any of K.L. Slater’s books before but can see that they are hugely popular and I have lots of her books as being want to read on my goodreads account. Although I didn’t love this one I definitely hope to read some of the others.

Thank you to #NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review #TheWidow

This seemed like a very different style to other K.L.Slater books I’ve read but I absolutely loved every page of it

The characters cleverly weave into each other’s lives and I felt like Is know them forever. K.L.Slater really represented the setting of a gossiping small town well. There were so many twists and turns and the plot definitely leads your thinking down one path only to end up loop the looping and leaving you not where or how you thought it would end. A very clever and enjoyable read!!

I’ve loved all of this authors work but after a quarter of the way through I found I couldn’t get into it. It’s not a dnf just a put down for now as I feel I would rate it a great book once I’m completely dedicated

I can always rely on this author for a decent thriller to distract from daily life! This story was mostly original and well-written, a few errors that reflect a need for editing but that’s no big deal for an ARC. Some descriptions went on a little too long or were repetitive, and the title was a little too revealing considering the widow thing didn’t happen til after halfway through the book, but still a joy to read!!

So this is my second book by KL Slater.. I requested this book because I loved the marriage so much. This is still a really good read but it didn’t give me un put downableness that I thought it would. The characters in the setting of great the mystery was twisty. Although I think she gave more clues in this book than in the previous that I had read. I didn’t know the ins and outs until I got to the final chapters. But I did figure out who the players were. I liked the characters, I was a little sad that Michael that’s a little flat. And I was confused by Donna I’m at her actions and reactions I could never get lined up. And I was surprised that she didn’t play a bigger role in the mysteries. I felt that it being sent around the holidays was great for when I read it I felt very timely and seasonal.

I enjoyed this book; however, it was a little predictable. It didn't take away from the story though. There were a few twists and who doesn't enjoy more than one?

Another great read by Ms Slater. Plenty of twists and nasty characters keep the suspense going. Seemed a little different to the usual style by this author but they may be down to having a more rural setting this time.

I am a huge K.L Slater fan and if i ever want a fast paced thriller that i know i will like then this is my go to author, hands down.

Kate is happily married to Michael but as we meet her, she is watching police work in the fields were her husband once tended, knowing they will find something. The village are ignoring her as rumours spread fast and all she can think of is how her daughter will feel, and what she will know.

Michael stepped in front of a lorry after been questioned by the police, so Kate feels like she is never going to get answers, what did they want? What part did Michael play in all of this? As Kate seeks answers the police are asking more and more questions. How was he connected to the disappearance of a young mum in the village and what secrets had Kate uncovered?

An absouletly brilliant read that as usual smacks a punch, i thought i had it all worked out and was ready to just enjoy the journey but alas, once more - i was wrong and had no idea what on earth had gone on. The characters were a mixed bunch and i wasn't sure how much i warmed to Kate but i knew her intentions were good. I think because i formed my own opinion as i read it certainly shaped how i saw the story.

Another fantastic thrilling read.
