This once again was a homerun! You are immediately drawn in from page one and will not be able to put it down.
There are so many twists and turns and you will still be guessing the ending all the way to the last page. Keep up the good work!

Loved it! I really enjoyed The Marriage (although the ending disappointed me a bit but it certainly was the epitome of a page turner so I can't fault it too much!), so when I saw this on Netgalley, I couldn't resist giving this one a go too!

Suzy Barros, a polish immigrant who seems to be running from something with her young son, goes missing at a Christmas fair. Michael, Kate's husband is a suspect in her disappearance. When he seems to step in front of a lorry and dies, more questions are raised, from both the village and the police. No matter what people say, and even if it looks like her husband killed himself to escape further questioning, Kate knows her husband isn't a murderer....or was he?

This certainly had me gripped from start to finish! It wasn't a particularly clever thriller but it was so much fun to read! I always enjoy when the characters' lives get super messy, of which theirs definitely did. There were quite a few plot twists at the end that I didn't see coming, it also tied together very nicely. A satisying end, with a rollercoaster of a journey.

Loved this book - thought the characters were very well developed and the storyline was great. Wasn't a huge fan of the friendship between Donna and Kate but that was just a personal preference thing - they seemed very hostile towards one another. Other than that I loved the book!

This book was pretty hard to put down and it kept me awake until I finished it. I just couldn't wait to see how would all unfold.

Some of the twists were obvious and some were not, but that didn't bother me with this book. It didn't take away from the storyline.

The characters were interesting. Some were strong, some were weak, and some were just awful. I had several points where I couldn't tell what I thought of the characters.

I did have a little difficultly with some of the redundant/repetitive dialogue and story. That did start to bother me after awhile.

I have read and loved everyone of this authors books. This one was good but to my mind, not as good as the others. For some reason it felt like another person had written it! I can't explain why it felt like that but it did. I finished it and enjoyed it.

I really feel like #klslater can do no wrong and with #thewidow she impressed me yet again. Happily married with a child. Living in a small town amongst their friends. When a newcomers arrives with her son and vanishes out of the blue. Years ago the same thing happened to a child. Are the cases connected? Is her husband responsible? The twists. The turns. This is the third book I read from this author and I’ve stared to like her writing style. Her stories are fast paced and easy reads. From page one I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. The characters seem to jump off the page and the plot is very well crafted. A very good domestic thriller.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Was full of suspense and drama, mystery and surprise.

Had me on the edge of my seat.

Loved the snippets into each characters lives and the development of such.

I finished this very gripping book in one day. It was really good, with a great plot and interesting characters.

I'm actually a big fan of this author but couldn't get into this one, and didn't finish. It won't deter me from her future books, but this one wasn't for me. The character interactions didn't work for me.

The Widow is a compelling psychological thriller that will keep you guessing and turning the page. The characters are well written, and the mystery is complex, with many twists and turns. The heartbreak of a young widow trying to protect her daughter and possibly clear her late husband is so real. The children, Tansy and Aleks, are captivating, and such a big part of the story. The author does a great job with character development and world building. The points of view change seamlessly between the various characters and the police department, and it does not disrupt the story. The reader will find themselves rooting for the widow as she tries to solve the mystery her husband left her. The final revelations in this multifaceted tale left me praising the author for a job well done. Fans of thrillers will be completely captivated by this enthralling mystery.

This is a pretty good mystery/thriller set in a tiny village in northern England. Kate Shaw's husband Michael stepped in front of a lorry after being questioned by police in the disappearance of a young mother that lived on the estate he managed. To the outside world, it appears Michael committed suicide rather than be caught for the crime. But Kate knows her husband and doesn't believe he's done anything wrong.

But then questions arise about Michael's activities before the crime, and evidence pointing at his guilt have Kate starting to question everything she's ever known about her life. Trying to cope with the events, and shield her six-year-old daughter from what's going on, Kate has to decide if she will hide incriminating evidence against Michael that she finds, or turn it over to the police.

This book has a good pace and isn't overly bloated with irrelevant side issues or red herrings. I did get a little tired of Kate's constant inner dialogue going over the facts again and again, but that's probably just my bias against first person points of view. I'm not a fan.

The author does a great job of building tension and while parts of the book were predictable, others were not and that was refreshing. I don't think I would put this book in the same category of Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train, but it was a good book that held my attention.

Once again, K.L. Slater has written a twisty, captivating book that holds your attention til the end. I enjoyed not only the mystery but the family dynamics too. Great descriptions and well-developed characters. Definitely recommend.

This was not my favourite KL Slater book. I should have reviewed the day I finished because now I’m having trouble recalling characters. But I’m short, I’m an idyllic close knit village a woman goes missing at a community event. Our main character, the wife, starts to suspect her husband Michael as his stories don’t add up and he worked on the estate the missing woman lived on. But when Mi Gael died having been run over, it becomes harder and harder to defend her husband’s actions. But Michael, the man she loved and never had reason not to trust before is no longer around to clear his name and the village gossips and bullies will not force her and her daughter out not ruin Michael’s name. Full of promise it was a bit all over the place and introducing secondary characters didn’t work as well for the story as they should have.

The death of Kate’s husband shortly after being questioned by police in relation to a missing woman, is enough to start the rumours around the town where she must now raise their daughter single handed. Was he responsible? Did Kate know about it? Were there more women?
 
K. L. Slater is one of my ‘go to’ authors. The authors whose books you buy without question, knowing they will be epic. Within a few pages, I was hooked. The plot is sinister enough, but then it adds to the tension as the story progresses. Several times, I thought I knew where it was going, and each time I was wrong, such is the author’s art of misdirection. And I did not see the ending coming! Just, wow!
 
Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough. It is easily one of the best psychological thrillers I have read this year. I gave The Widow, by K. L. Slater, five stars.

Yet another fabulous psychological thriller from Bookouture. I’ve said it many time but if you read a novel by a Bookouture author you know you’ll enjoy it and add another favourite author to follow.

I absolutely adored this novel, one of my personal favourite authors and every time I read one of her novels I know I’ll enjoy as much, if not more than the previous.

KL Slater has a very eloquent way of bringing forth emotions you haven’t felt in a while. A couple of scenes were really hard to read despite being so beautifully written. I found myself crying ugly tears while reading this novel. It takes a lot to evoke this kind of emotion and she did it with ease it seems.

With a complex storyline I was emerged into this story from the beginning. With a host of characters, I felt connected to their plight and was invested in finding out what exactly was behind the mysterious happenings in this close knit community.

I loved the police element within the story. It was well written and certainly had a well imprinted impression within the timeline. I’d like to see more of DI Helena Price and DS Kane Brewster. Both were great characters with police banter that rang true through the storyline. I’m really hoping KL Slater Will consider writing a new police procedural series with these characters.

Overall an excellent story that was full of twists that kept me reading into the early hours. Fabulous as always and looking forward to the next!

An intriguing intricate thriller that will make you think you have it sussed and then confuse you and make you ponder it all again.

All the dramas, gossip, secrets and lies in a small “friendly” village with a great Christmassy ending.
Really engrossing.

I usually make notes while I read, but mostly forgot as I was trying to race through and find out what had happened!

I have read several of this authors books and they never disappoint. This proved to be an enjoyable fast read which I got through in a couple of sittings. It kept my attention and I enjoyed the twists and turns, changing my mind several times wondering how it was going to end. I look forward to her next book.
