Another great psychological thriller from this author. Had me hooked from the first chapter.

Kate and Michael had the perfect loving marriage, or so Kate thought. After Michael is killed by a truck driver she begins to question if she really knew him at all. Could he really have had anything to do with not just one, but two missing people? The villagers clearly believe he is guilty but can Kate look past the evidence which is mounting and protect her daughter from thinking her Daddy was a killer?

Along with the two missing people, there is also an unsolved case from 23 years ago. Could this also be connected to Michael back when he was just a teenager?

Luckily Kate has her best friend Donna for emotional support but she too is going through a difficult time with her cheating husband Paul.

Written from the point of view of several characters, past and present really made the story reveal just enough at a time to see where it was going, but then a twist, and then another. Really gripping, page turning thriller, just how I like it. I wasnโ€™t expecting all those twists at all so well done to the author for keeping me guessing.

Many thanks to netgalley, the publishers and the author for an arc.

O. M. G. This book is absolutely fantastic! The plot was fast moving with plenty of action to keep the pages turning.

As usual I was up reading way past bedtime as it's just too good to put down.

I thought I knew exactly what happened but I couldn't have been more wrong. Twist after twist I didn't see coming.

I love everything I read by this superb author and don't hesitate to recommend her books to everyone.

Kate Shaw's whole world changes when her husband, Michael stepped in front of a Lorry after being questioned by the police about a missing local woman. Now being tried in the court of public opinion, Kate insists that her husband was innocent. That he had nothing to do with the missing woman's disappearance.

Thankfully, Kate has her close friend, Donna to lean on when times get tough, but Donna is dealing with her own issues as well.

With everyone wanting to know the truth, jumping to conclusions, and laying blame, this book gets juicer and juicer.

This was another enjoyable read by K. L. Slater. It proved to be a fast read for me and I had my theories which changed throughout the book. This book is full of lies, secrets, twists and turns which helped it move along at a nice pace and keep me invested in the story. A couple of things took me by surprise which I loved.

Another solid read by Slater and I look forward to her next book!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Widow by K.L Slater

This story was so good!!! I suspected everyone and was equally shocked at the twist towards the end. Such a good read for all psychological thriller fans.

The story follows Kate, a recent Widow after her husband, Michael, steps in-front of an oncoming truck. Michael was under intense scrutiny from police following an investigation into the disappearance of a local womanโ€ฆ Kateโ€™s mind consistently comes back to ..did he do this because he is guilty?

As the story unfolds Kate finds more clues that link her husband to the disappearance but she canโ€™t believe that her loving, faithful husband could do such a thingโ€ฆ and most importantly she must protect her daughter .. at all costs.

As the story unravels we learn that everything is not as it seems and there is more that meets the eye โ€ฆ

Detectives investigate two disappearances, both of whom, lived in the village of Michaelโ€™s workplace .. so where are they? Only time will tell! However, there is still the lingering disappearance of a young girl called Matilda, who vanished over 23 years ago .. could her husband really be responsible for this too?

A very fast, thought provoking book, that had me on the edge of my seat, I loved this story! There were so many characters that I thought could be involved in the disappearances. I loved that some chapters were in the POV of different characters, giving the reader more clues as they go!

You know how sometimes you read a psychological thriller and you have a fleeting thought about what is going on, but you dismiss it because you figure the author probably did not go there.
In this book, the author did go there.
However, the clues to the twist are so well hidden that I am not sure some readers will see them. I read a lot in this genre and (as I have mentioned) I like to challenge myself to see if I can outguess the author.
Anyway, this story starts with a forensic dig and then goes back in time roughly two months earlier. This is an effective way to tell the story because the reader knows something bad is going to happen (from the prologue).
But the author lays the detailed groundwork so that when the action reaches the point of the prologue, everything is clear.
Let me try to explain that better.
The first part of the book flows naturally. The story draws the reader in, but with the understanding that this โ€œeventโ€ is going to eventually happen. And it does so in the natural course of the story.
And, as a reader wants in a psychological thriller, the reveal is nothing like what you think it might be. Well, maybe a little. But there are surprises for sure!
I think Kate is a strong figure. She has a lot to deal with but maintains her kind nature throughout most of the story. She only slips a little at the end, which seemed out of character. But I chalk it up to the amount of stress she is dealing with at the time.
The author weaves a sub-plot (with direct bearing on the main plot) about foreign laborers that is both informative and pivotal. This is a unique perspective that I think is probably still quite accurate in real life.
There were a couple of moments that donโ€™t ring exactly true to me, especially as secrets are revealed. A few incidents seem to be tossed off as part of the overall arc when I think they might have been more impactful.
Also, a couple of moments that were mentioned and then forgotten (a letter Kate receives goes nowhere). And the similarities between Kate, Donna, and Irene could be a little clearer.
Those are fairly nitpicky and minor in the overall arc of the story, however. I like that my theories changed over the course of the book, which means the author kept me guessing.
I will also say that the author has a talent for telling a story that is entirely plausible, but also, by the end of it, the reader feels like certain things should have been obvious. But werenโ€™t. I think that is smart writing.
Like other titles by the author (The Evidence, Single) this is a solid entry in the psychological thriller genre. I recommend it.

We have Michael who walks in front of a Lorry after being caught up in a crime. Weโ€™re left with a widow with questions! Absolutely love every word KL Slater writes, her suspense and thrills are addictive.

Kate Shawโ€™s world was fine, that was until her husband Michael stepped in front of a moving lorry. Michael had just left the local police station having been interviewed concerning a woman who had gone missing from their local village. Kate is left to single-handily care for their six-year-old daughter.

Soon the local tongues start wagging and not only is Michael accused of being to blame for the missing lady Suzy Baros, but of others who have gone missing over several years. To make matters worse, whispering and finger-pointing is also aimed at Kate. Was she involved, or had some knowledge of what Michael had done?
Kate is determined to find out the truth and clear Michaelโ€™s name, whatever the cost.

Another brilliant, gripping, and fast-paced thriller by KL Slater, as compelling as we have come to expect from this outstanding author.

I got pretty lucky with this one, I didnt know what to expect going into this novel but i was literally blown away.

This novel had every key component of a made for tv thriller. I loved every bit of it.

The Widow, had my heart racing, my pulse going, and my nerves rattling. How I had any nails left on my fingers, was a surprise.

This is a story of how far a mother will go to protect her daughter even when left widowed and on her own.

You do not want to miss this! Due out November 12, 2021.

I do love K.L Slater's books and The Widow was no exception. I was completely hooked from the beginning and I could not put it down. There are both likeable and unlikeable characters in this one and it has enough twists to keep the suspense high.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

KL Slater is always hit or miss for me. I really enjoy the plot and characters in some and absolutely hate the characters and cheesy, overdone feel of others. Unfortunately, this one falls more in the second camp than the first. It kept me reading but I had no desire to spend more time with these people than I had to do.

Anyone who has read a K.L. Slater books knows she always writes a great book. BUT, The Widow blows all her previously thrillers out of the water. I could not put this one down...loved every page from beginning to the end. Highly recommend my very favorite K.L. Slater book to date!

Thank you to net galley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Iโ€™d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read โ€˜The Widowโ€™ written by K L Slater in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Kate befriends Suzy who with her young son Aleks has recently moved to Lynwick from her home in Poland, trying to make her feel a part of village life. But Suzy goes missing leaving Aleks behind, and when Kateโ€™s husband Michael is hit by a lorry thereโ€™s talk that heโ€™s responsible for Suzyโ€™s disappearance and the residents think Kate knows more than sheโ€™s saying.

I guessed from page one that I was going to enjoy โ€˜The Widowโ€™ as when I wasnโ€™t reading I couldnโ€™t stop thinking about the characters, the story, and what was going to happen next. Itโ€™s a thriller with a sinister plot that grows more tense as it progresses and with the interesting characters, drama, intrigue and twists and turns I was completely gripped from the first page to the last. I donโ€™t know how Ms Slater does it but she always manages to produce skilfully written thrillers that keep me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. Itโ€™s thoroughly entertaining, exciting, easy to read and highly recommended.

I enjoyed this one, I found it hard to put down once I got a few chapters into it. Not only was it a mystery but it was also part emotional drama as well. Itโ€™s one of those books that makes you think and put yourself into the characterโ€™s place.

Another gripping thriller for the author discussing the morality of choices you face when you are protecting your loved ones.

What another great story from K.L Slater. I can honestly say she is one of my favourite authors and I am never disappointed by her books. Every single time I see she has a new book out Iโ€™m so excited to read it and this one was no exception.

Kate lives in a small rural close-knit village with her husband, Michael and her young daughter Tansy and she loves village life. She has her best friend Donna right on her doorstep and her husband enjoys his job managing an estate for Irene who is an elderly widow. Everyone knows everyone else and itโ€™s a lovely place to live. However, this all changes when Suzy moves to the village with her young son Aleks. Sheโ€™s young and glamourous but very mysterious and everyone wants to know her back story from her former Poland. Suddenly one night after the village bonfire night Suzy disappears leaving Aleks all alone. Rumours begin to swirl around the village as to what has happened to Suzy, after all she isnโ€™t the first person to go missing in this villageโ€ฆโ€ฆ 13-year-old Matilda (Donnaโ€™s little sister) went missing 23 years ago and then a couple of years ago an employee at the estate Michael works at suddenly disappeared too. Michael is under suspicion and Kate doesnโ€™t know whether to trust him or not, is he the man she thinks he is? Youโ€™ll have to read the book to find out.

This was a brilliant story full of suspense and tension. I must admit in the beginning I wasnโ€™t a fan of Donna and felt that at times she was quite a horrible person to Kate who was supposed to be her best friend. However, the more I read about her the more I started to understand why she was the way she was, and I was very pleased that she eventually found her strength. I detested her husband, Paul! I really enjoyed this story and found it hard to put down with the number of twists and turns that were thrown at me, the ultimate twist near the end of the book where Kate follows Paul definitely made my jaw hit the floor, a great sign of a good twist. I would highly recommend this book for all fans of K.L Slaters work and psychological thriller fans, you wonโ€™t be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and K.L Slater for my advanced reading copy. Due out 12th November 2021.

Really good book! What a sneaky, complicated, engaging plot! It kept me guessing and second guessing myself for certain. I thought, like the village, that I knew the identity of the killer, but at almost the last minute the book shifted gears. It was almost enough to give me whiplash, but I loved the ending.

Slater has crafted a great book-tight characters and just enough quirks to make them substantially real.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and offer my thoughts.

I love murder mystery thrillers. A small village has an array of secrets. Kate is happy with her life, but her husband begins to act strangely and keep things from her. Then a woman goes missing. I liked Kateโ€™s pluck and determination to ferret out the answers. This was a fast read for me and I liked the string female characters portrayed. The culprit was a character I felt uneasy about and my instincts were correct.

This was not what I thought it was going to be. At the beginning it starts off with a husband that has committed a crime and you think the whole book is going to be leading up to how he has accomplished said crime. Towards the end of the book, they brush back on how the book started and this is where we really see the twist. It did take me up to 70% into the book to actually love it. I thought we already knew who did the crime, so it would not have been of much interest. This book really captivates you into the lives of these characters and thatโ€™s what I look for in a good book.

This is a tidy little thriller that will keep you guessing till the last page. Unfortunately, I had trouble connecting with any of the characters and didnโ€™t enjoy this one as much as some of this authors other works. Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and KL Slater fir this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
