'Helping Our World Get Well: COVID Vaccines' by Beth Bacon with illustrations by Kary Lee is a picture book about the benefit of vaccines.

After months of wearing masks and keeping distance, a vaccine for COVID was finally available for kids. It may seem scary and like it will hurt, but this book talks about why we get vaccinated in a way that makes sense to young readers.

The book is simple to understand and has bright illustrations. The author talks about herd immunity in an afterword.

This simple and straightforward book about COVID-19 vaccinations is perfect for children in the 5-12 age group as well as younger children who might be approved for the vaccine (ages 2-5). This book lays out the facts and the importance of herd immunity, while offering hope that we can do our part to protect ourselves and others.

I really appreciate that this book doesn't dive into anything beyond the fact that it is a vaccine that is meant to help protect us. It is at just the right level for children to appreciate and understand. It also points out that the narrator was worried it would hurt, but it's just a shot and is over very quickly.

I highly recommend this for libraries, doctor's offices, and schools! All children will benefit from reading about the importance of ending this pandemic and taking advantage of the vaccine.

A positive little book that explains the importance of vaccination to help protect ourselves and others in our communities explained in simple terms. Can be used to help overcome shots-shyness as it emphasizes empathy and caring for others as much as yourself. Addresses some of the ways kids had to adjust so kids can better relate to the story as well.

This picture book is to help young children understand why they should get the Covid vaccine. I liked that it provided an example of an immunocompromised peer and how you would be helping them stay safe, but I think there could've been more examples and included protecting older and younger family members. I thought the full page image of the hypodermic needle could have easily been left out and may cause children more anxiety, rather than offer reassurance. There is an image of the little girl getting her shot and one of the needle and vaccine bottle, which I thought was sufficient representation of a needle. The illustrations were cute and well done, but a few of them seemed a bit out of place and I don't think clearly communicated what they were representing. This is a valuable book for explaining the vaccine, what to expect when they get it, and how they can help to young children.

This was a simple, straight to the point story about a young girl who is hesitant about getting her vaccine. She's scared it will hurt, but then learns how it will help others, and gets it.

The vaccine is a complicated intricate science, and the book does a great job at explaining it in a way a young child will understand.

I love this and can't wait to get a copy in my classroom! A young girl has worries about getting a COVID vaccine (it might hurt, she might bleed, etc.) but family and friends gently help her to realize it's the best thing she can do for herself, for her community, and for the people she cares about.

I love that her fears weren't dismissed, but instead she listened and grew and learned to put them in context. She made a brave choice to face her apprehensions in the hopes she could protect the people and things she cared about. That's just the right message and delivered with love and grace.

Kids are working very hard to process everything that's happened over the last 18 months, and this story gives them a relatable tale and simple words to help express what they've experienced and how they might feel about it. I'm so excited to have this resource. It will be a great addition to classroom, school, and community libraries!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

While the message of the book is good, about helping others by getting vaccinated, the text just fell flat. It did not work well as a story nor as informational text. I think a purely informational text would be more likely to find an audience.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
