I read this book with my niece (7) and nephew (3) and they both took different things from it! The beauty of the book is the drawings are easy to grasp and the words are simple for a reader who is growing in confidence.

A short retelling of the birth of Jesus from Marvin, a mouse who lives in the stable in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Briefly introduces the idea of Jesus being a Savior and King. A cute book for very young children, but not long enough to hold the interest of slightly older children. I do appreciate the discussion questions offered at the end.

Marvin the mouse lives in a barn where nothing exciting ever happens. Then one night a couple came in and delivered baby Jesus. Marvin is fascinated and loyal to Jesus. This is a cute book depicting Jesus’ birth from a new & unique perspective. I enjoyed reading it.

Beautifully illustrated! While I loved the story as a whole, it lacked the catch to draw children in and be engaged The storyline moved a bit too quickly through the timeline of the story. Some of the questions to reflect on at the end could have been implemented into the story to help children be more engaged. As a whole, its a beautiful story beautifully written!

I'm not sure where I stand on Marvin Mouse Meets the Baby King. It starts out well, but is just seems to end quite abruptly. Marvin is a mouse who lives in the stable, although this story calls it a barn, where Jesus was born. The story includes Mary and Joseph arriving, a baby being born, shepherds arriving, Angels proclaiming him the king, and Marvin deciding to walk beside the baby. I read it to my grandchildren and they listened, but didn't engage a lot. After the story there were a few questions that I asked my grandchildren that they did think about and answer, and the Christmas story from Luke was also printed, which I also read to them. They engaged more with that reading. The illustrations were cute, but depicted the Holy Family as white, not darker skinned as they would have been from the area they lived. As a read aloud, I found it a bit clunky. Each page was told in a five line poem form, but it did not flow well and the rhyming was hit or miss. This was a different take on the Birth of Jesus, but we found it to be just okay.

I absolutely loved this book, the story is so cute, but with such depth of meaning.
The illustrations are exquisite, and the book was a joy to read to my grandchildren and I am sure will be a favourite.

A little twist called Marvin!

A little twist (in the story of the birth of Jesus) called Marvin the Mouse.

If there had been a talking mouse the day Jesus was born, what would he have said? Let Marvin tell you.

A beautiful illustrated children's book about the birth of Christ through the eyes of a little new believer. Supported by scriptures, it will spark children's curiosity and interest and be the perfect start to important discussion and teaching. I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

Marvin Mouse Meets the Baby King by Michelle L. Hoy is cute retelling of the birth of Jesus. The illustrations are beautiful. Marvin Mouse Meets the Baby King tells the CHRISTmas Story from what Marvin Mouse sees the night Jesus is born. I love the way Marvin Mouse sees the importance of Jesus' Birth and how Marvin decides to follow Jesus all the days of his life. I highly recommend this book and believe it would be a perfect edition to anyone's Christmas library. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (My review is also on Goodreads.)

A fresh look at the Nativity; something all our children generally get involved in during Christmas term and some go on to wave at loved ones from the stage.

I found the writing, broken down into snippets of 5 lines told the story well, from a mouse’s point of view. I just wonder why words used over time were changed. Trough for manger and barn for stable. I also wondered if some effort could have been made to introduce rhyme into the verses.

I was at a loss as to explain the mouse’s understanding of who the baby was and take on the concept of King.

The shepherds attended but no Magi. It is the wise men who came to worship the king and their part also connects better to the mouse’s own insight.

A chance missed perhaps but the book can be used in faith to share this wonderful moment in human history.

It was encouraging to see Luke 2 is placed at the end of the book which is the biblical account of this moment.

Beautifully illustrated this is a delightful book to share and will get a conversation started with your young ones.

Look up Away in a Manger, a children’s carol that pictures this story. I sincerely hope that this book helps to ‘Bless all the dear children’ who share a cuddle with a read.

The most amazing part of this book, quite honestly, is the illustrations. The textures and details in these pictures are beautiful.
There is nothing wrong with the story, either, but due to the way the words are set on the page, I kept expecting the lines to rhyme. Perhaps they are intended to be a psalm though, and not a poem? If this is the case, what a wonderful way to praise the newborn king.

I would like to thank #NetGalley and #BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love a good Christmas book, but this was kind of boring. There was nothing really to the story that really drew me in or made me feel like it was worth reading. The illustrations were ok but nothing amazing.

This is a unique telling of the story of the birth of Christ as that of the observation of a mouse, Marvin Mouse, living in the stable in Bethlehem. With the sweet telling of the story and nice pictures, it makes for a great book for young children, giving them something to imagine, that of a mouse in the stable on that night seeing the Baby, Kings, and angels. Marcin Mouse makes a decision to follow the Baby King after seeing the birth. At the end of the book, questions to ponder and Luke 2 are included giving the background to the story and great for children of all ages as well as adults. This would make a great gift for children.
I received a download copy of the book from BooksGoSocial and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

Just in time for Christmas - this beautiful illustrated and thoughtful read about the birth of Jesus thru the eyes of a mouse. Toddlers will relate easily to the magnitude of this special day for Christians and their families. It brings reason for the season in clear focus. Highly recommend.

A special thank you to Books Go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

This was so sweet and I loved how simplistic the telling of the story was. Marvin Mouse was there at the sight of the birth of Christ and was in awe at the beautiful baby before him unknowing who he was.

It’s a great story for any parent wanting to start sharing the story of Christ with their children, it’s an easy to read story, it’s simple but is a perfect building block for being able to share the whole story.

It also comes with some really beautiful illustrations by Jasmine Bailey which they really help add to the story as you are reading, they are beautiful and I think younger kids would enjoy looking at them.
