Back then, Lara was a fresh-faced young fashion journalist spending a few months working in New York and trying to live her best life. One night her colleague drags her to a bar for a drink and she meets Ben, a graphic designer on holiday with some mates. Their connection is instant and all consuming, both of them thinking 'This is the One', they arrange to meet that night - but fail to connect.

Fast forward nineteen years and Eliza is an angry young woman confronting her father about why he left her and her mother when she was only small. Her father drops a huge bombshell that shakes Eliza to the core - he is not her father. Lara has been lying to her for her entire life. When Eliza does eventually connect with her real father, Ben, it also causes repercussions in his marriage.

Can Ben and Lara uncover what actually happened in New York, can Eliza forgive Lara, can Ben and Eliza develop a relationship and make up for lost time?

I love Lucy Diamond novels, never twee, always about people's feelings, about messy families who drive you up the wall but you still love them, and this is no exception.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Lara and Ben meet one night in New York, with both left feeling they have met their soulmate. They arrange to meet again the next day at an oyster bar in Grand Central Station…
19 years later, Eliza is in the middle of her Alevels and starts asking questions about her father, who she has never met.
A charming story about how life changes people but it’s never too late to follow your heart.

Exploring the possibilities of missed chances, "what ifs", coincidences and fate, this book is a "sliding doors" look at what happens when two people meet and sparks fly but then life gets in the way.
I felt immediately like I was part of the dynamic with Lara and her teenage daughter Eliza. They clearly have a very close relationship and yet at the start there's this huge secret between them.
Neil and Kirsten muddle along after so long married but cracks are appearing as busy lives and a difference in priorities seems to be pulling them down, then a huge bombshell drops and life's suddenly making them both focus on what their own individual happiness truly means.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it heartwarming, fun and moving.

Seeking Truths…
A perfect slice of escapism from the talented Lucy Diamond. Wholly character driven with a wonderfully drawn cast and an enjoyable, uplifting, warm, and sometimes unexpected, storyline. A tale of life, loves, family, broken dreams, seeking truths and delightful surprises. A touching read.

This was a wonderful read about a twist of fate and missed chances years ago that left Lara pregnant and alone and Ben unaware we was a father. When Eliza starts looking at genetics as part of her A levels it gets her wondering about her absent father, when she finds her and confronts him she’s stunned to find out that the man who raised her until she was three was not her biological father and it sets her off on a mission to find him. The events that follow turn both Lara and Ben upside down, Lara starts thinking about the hopes and aspirations of her younger self and Ben is left fighting to save his marriage. The three are all fantastic characters and from the point of Eliza’s world imploding when she realises she doesn’t know her roots to the time she starts university we see how they all evolve and the impact they start to have on each other’s lives. This is a brilliant character read and the story felt fresh and original and was very well developed, 9/10

Another book by Lucy Diamond that I couldn’t put down until I reached the end. A very unusual storyline with 3 main characters who were all delightful. A twisty story with a very happy ending as expected. What more could one ask for?

Lara and Eliza are mother and daughter, just the two of them, it’s always been that way. They live each other, know each other inside out and rely on each other, it’s always been that way.
But then something changes, Eliza wants to meet and know here dad, the one she has not met yet. And this makes Lara reveal something Eliza doesn’t know, something that has always been a secret, it’s always been that way

This is a story of love, hope, redemption, family and kindness and is escapism in its most comfortable form. I loved it, loved it, loved it. It’s warm, comforting, familiar and enjoyable
