This story is really cute! I do have a problem with Europe Comics in that the story often doesn't live up to how good the art is, which happened again with this. The art is absolutely stunning but the story felt a little cliched - I would have enjoyed this more if I was much younger. This does set up the world of London with magical beings in it very well, and I think fans of Kiki's Delivery Service would love this.

A fun and magical read!

Evelyn and her cat Benedict are a heart warming duo,

The little purple haired girl is a witch who does not yet understand her full potential. From the magic book, nuns and ghosts that help her along the way you are sure to have a great story to read.

The images in the book itself are beautiful and really pull you in to Evelyn’s magical world. I’m excited to read and learn more.

There is a lot to like about this graphic novel, the illustrations are cute and very detailed, helping to draw the reader into the world. The magic system is unique. Despite Evelyn's nontraditional upbringing she obviously has people, and a cat, who love and value her. It has a great message about self acceptance.

My only complaint is that I wish it had been a little longer. This book is obviously the setup for a larger series. I can't wait to see what happens to the girl with purple hair!

Such cute illustrations! Quite a heart-breaking start, but I really enjoyed the beginning of Evelyn's journey and look forward to seeing how she gets on. I hope book two will come soon.

Very cute graphic novel! I really enjoyed the illustrations! The characters remind me of chibis and the villages and scenes really have a video game feel which I adored.

Supper cute little book. I adored every part of it. The illustrations were really well and the story line was very interesting. However, I really wished it would of been a little bit longer. Like maybe have Evelyn have more time with the nuns or with her cat exploring her childhood. It just jumped years so fast. Overall really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the second book in the series, Magic #2.

This is a sweet little graphic novel that is a great selection for upper elementary or middle schools. Nothing inappropriate to note for fellow librarians/childrens book buyers. Themes of accepting uniqueness. Slightly reminded me of a graphic novel version of "The Girl Who Drank the Moon". I will be adding this to my middle school purchase list!

Absolutely adorable. Magic is a tale for those witchy little misfits in our lives who fill us with joy and love and this book never fails to enchant.

With thanks to net galley for this advanced copy of this graphic novel.
This graphic novel/comic has a great underlying concept and amazingly cute art. Some darker themes mixed in there are perfect for the middlegrade audience. Although at times slightly too wordy this is a great read.

This is such a cool introduction to this world. I love the artwork. It's adorable and a little dreamy, setting the tone of the book wonderfully from the beginning. The main character and her new mentor are intriguing, even with this being a shorter story I already like them and can't wait to see more of their adventures. I also love the cat character, such an important element to a good witch story and wonderfully done here. All around this book left me wanting more.

A baby girl born with purple hair is promptly handed over to a convent by her horrified father, who fears she bears the sign of the witch. And indeed, little Evelyn seems to have strange powers and to attract supernatural manifestations as she grows up among the nuns, who patiently put up with it as best they can.

This is a cute middle grade that sets the start of an interesting story. We find out more about Evelyn's birth and how her family treats witches. Then we go 7 years later and follow Evelyn in her adventures. Evelyn is a challenging child, but I think she is curious and has great potential.

The story is quite straight forward, but that doesn't make it less enjoyable. I enjoyed it. The art is very cute and perfect for the story. The colours are vibrant and her purple hair is great!

Okay, this was beautifully drawn, and incredibly interesting. The characters are well developed, and quickly! The story is clearly going to be a series, and one I'm eager to continue. A fun, fast, and engaging read!

The drawings are so adorable and I even thought it was strange that the adults were also very cute, I liked this comic, despite having considered the bittersweet topics a little off for a comic so adorable.

I received with thanks e-arc of Magic 1, The Girl with the Purple Hair from Europe Comics and Netgalley. Even though I have been gifted this book for review, all opinions are my own.

This is my review of Magic 1, The Girl with the Purple Hair Script by Lylian K. & art by Audrey Molinatti

This graphic novel was cute and sad at the same time. This is short and I would have liked to have spent more time getting to know our main character and her cat. But this was a good beginning to new a series and will most likely pick up volume two. I read this around Halloween and it was a good choice. Both the art style and the storyline was engaging and kept my attention.

I would recommend it if you enjoy a middle grade with a spooky historical twist.

This graphic novel was really short, but I thought it was really cute! The art was beautiful, and I really liked the characters. Not too much happens plot wise, but I am still excited to read the second book!

I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Cute but short! This felt more like a storyboard for a scene in an animation than a volume of a graphic novel. I think the art is cute though.

Thanks to netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

This was cute. The illustrations were sweet. But there was so little story being built up. The end I was just like… okay but where’s the rest. I’m sure it’ll work better continued but as one issue I felt that it was just too little.

This is a gorgeously illustrated graphic novel about a young girl, born to a childless rich family and sent away mere hours after her birth because she is born with purple hair, which is a sign of being a witch, and that is something her father abhors and hunts down and destroys [you see this on the first pages of the book]. Raised by nuns [who are kind and generous and loving to Evelyn, even with her pranks] and a black cat named Benedict, Evelyn grows into a lovely young girl who's powers seem to be growing and the nuns, in their concern apprentice her out to a hat-maker, who may or may not be what he really says he is. Evelyn is in for a rude surprise when she enters the real world and finds out that witches are abhorred and treated badly and now must struggle to figure out how to move forward and move on. You are never really sure of her age, but she seems very young and that adds to the sadness of the story.

The only downside to this story is that it ends on a minor cliffhanger with a note to look for book two, where the story will continue. I am REALLY not a fan of that. Ever. I can only hope that I remember to look for the second one, because I would love to see how Evelyn's [and Benedict] story plays out and where she goes now that she is in London. There are quite a few unanswered questions that I can only hope [and assume] will be addressed in book two.

This is [again] gorgeously illustrated with vibrant colors mixed with pastel swirls and the pages will keep you looking long after you have read the story. This is one of the best illustrated books I have seen in awhile.

Overall, I would recommend this book - it is fun and quirky and a little scary [witch-hunting is never fun, no matter how it is drawn] and I think people of all ages will really love this. Looking forward to Book 2. Very well done.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lylian K, AUDREY MOLINATTI [Illustrator], and Europe Comics for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick read. A bit confusing to garner the context at points in the beginning and overall somewhat basic. This would make for a cute kids cartoon but I'm not sure that I would continue reading the graphic novels.

So cute!
Not much happens, but it is a great introduction to the story.
I am really looking forward to reading more about Evelyn!
