Fear of the unknown is a dangerous thing that drives people to do the most idiotic. They get involved in some of the most evillous acts of murder. Yeah, I know evillous is not a word, but it should be, just saying. This graphical story is intriguing and very entertaining. I love it, it’s good.

This was a very cute, enchanting story about a young witch discovering her powers and growing up in a world where witches aren’t very well liked.

The art style reminded me a lot of old video games I used to play as a child so that just made the whole reading experience such a joy for me. It really brought me back!

The story too was a lot of fun. This was very much a setup and introduction volume— volume two I hope will be a lot more action packed and full of more magic and adventures!

My only complaint is some of the insults the main character used were unnecessary and that she spoke a lot older than I would think a seven year old would. But other than that, this was fun and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a graphic novel on the younger side of middle grade!

3.5/5⭐️

TW: fire, death, child abandonment.

The illustrations are amazing and the story itself is perfect for the Halloween season.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, it's a graphic novel, but at only 50ish pages, there wasn't a lot of room to work with. I was thinking it may even be more of a picture book type format, but it wasn't. This book is a graphic novel about a little girl who was born with purple hair. Seeing as this is a sure sign she's a witch, her father gives her away to a convent, where she's raised for several years alongside her black cat familiar, until she's sent off to apprentice with a hatmaker in London, who happens to be a wizard as well. And that's it, that's everything that happens. This book was so short, it felt like nothing even happened, and that there really wasn't much of a plot. If anything, this book just serves as an introduction, with things (hopefully) picking up in the next volume. The art was cute, the concept was interesting, but not fully developed enough in this short volume to get a real sense of what the series will be like.

This book is not my usual kind of read, but I thought the art was really cute and fun. I don’t read many graphic novels, but this made me want to read more! There were some translation points that were a bit clunky, but other than that this was a very pleasant reading experience!

The Girl with Purple Hair is the first book in the series about a little witch with (yes!) purple hair. The girl is born soon after a witch ends her life when her house is set on fire. She is left at a convent soon after her birth because of her purple hair.
Evelyn grows up at the convent, troubling the nuns and not completely understanding her powers. Benedict, her cat and familiar, guides her, but can only do so much. When things go out of hand, the nuns decide to send her to an artisan master.
Eve gets a taste of the real world and is stunned by the hatred she receives. She learns the truth about the artisan master, and as he puts it, her adventures have just begun.
The illustrations are rather cute in some places and a little awkward in some places. Not sure, but some feel a bit off. However, the overall color scheme and composition are beautiful. The magical settings give the witchy vibe well.
Looking forward to reading the next installment in the series.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Europe Comics and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A girl with purple hair is left at a convent for the nuns to raise. Soon, strange things begin to happen in the monastery.

This is a very cutesy graphic novel about a young girl who has the abilities of a witch and needs to be protected from the world, until she is ready to face it.
Her companion is a talking cat, and there are adventures waiting for her.

I don't know if I would like this illustration style for other stories, but in this case, it fits very nicely. The pacing was quick, there were no unneccessary lengths, and I am intrigued to see how it will continue.

The arc was provided by the publisher.

So... this was cute I guess. I mean, it wasn't that exciting and while it was only 50+ pages it was hard to keep my attention to it. Meet a little girl with purple hair. She has some fun powers and gets in trouble with the nuns plenty of times. I had a laugh at the things she did, some of them unintentional others intentional (like the statue of an angel she brought to life). I loved her bond with her cat, though I am just not a fan of talking pets/animals. The second part in which she is brought to the big city was a fun one and I had my suspicions about the guy, I hope he can teach her plenty of new things and show her how to handle her powers.
The art... pretty colours but the style just wasn't for me. Too blocky. Kids and Adults almost looking the same.

A cute story about a little girl with purple hair.
Don't read the blurb because it tells you the whole story.
The drawings are colorful and great to look at.

It’s cute. I got to read an ARC of this in English and it looks like a translation from French. It’s a comic for an under 10 fantasy fan. It’s a very short and is just setting up the main character and the world she lives in. It is an 1800s England/London she inhabits where witches appear to be pretty common place. Enough so that there are laws around what they can and can’t do. Witches are also apparently marked by having purple hair which would make it pretty hard to hide….
I enjoyed it enough as an adult that if I saw volume 2 I’d read it but I won’t go seeking it out for myself. Very much a kids book and would be a good choice for the right age kid who enjoyed this genre.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Magic: The Girl with Purple Hair by Lylian K. and Audrey Molinatti is a children's graphic novel that will appeal to fans of the classic Sabrina Cartoon or Studio Ghibli's Kiki's Delivery Service or Howl's Moving Castle. The story revolves around Evelyn, a girl with magical powers who grows up among nuns. They give her away to Master Neil, a hat-maker in London, after her powers become too much to deal with. Fortunately, Master Neil knows plenty about magic, because his hatshop is actually a wizard's workshop, and he can teach her about magic.

Overall, Magic: The Girl with Purple Hair is a beautifully drawn graphic novel with children with bright colors and adorable characters. It reminded me of Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe. The art-style in particular reminded me of the chibi style drawings that are in Japanese manga or anime. Although I really enjoyed the artwork, I felt a bit disappointed that this graphic novel was only 58 pages, which is 1/3 the size of a typical graphic novel. I definitely wanted to read more. If you're intrigued by the description, or if you're looking for children's graphic novels about magic, you can check out this book, which is available now!

Synopsis:
A baby girl born with purple hair is promptly handed over to a convent by her horrified father, who fears she bears the sign of the witch. And indeed, little Evelyn seems to have strange powers and to attract supernatural manifestations as she grows up among the nuns, who patiently put up with it as best they can. But after one scary “trick” too many, she is entrusted to the care of a hat-maker, who whisks her off to London, where she will learn about much more than making hats! For as Evelyn and her talking cat Benedict will soon find out, Master Neil has a few tricks up his sleeve, too, and his hat shop might not be exactly what it seems…
